We are all familiar with star power; celebrities seem to have this light that all of us normal folks are attracted to. We want to look at them, talk to them, and be their best friend. We want that special light of theirs to shine on us, as well. It seems pretty improbable that some every-day-Joe could be lucky enough to hook up with some of the celebs on this list—but it is true. It is important to remember that even though the rich and famous have a ton of cash, giant houses, personal chefs, nannies, and illustrious careers that they are people, too.
Just imagine what it must have to been like in the fledgling days of these relationships—just imagine what it must have like to look over at the person on the other side of the bed and think, “Ermahgerd. I’m sleeping next to Julia Roberts.” Let’s be honest—there is no one who ain’t a fan of Julia Roberts.
Some of these couples have maintained successful, long term relationships. Others were together long enough to produce offspring, and no more. Either way, this list proves that one does not have to be famous to get with these high profile celebs…
I know that I don’t need to give background on Reese Witherspoon—we all know who she is. It would be insulting. But let’s give praise where praise is due by mentioning some small movies she was in like Cruel Intentions, Legally Blonde, Sweet Home Alabama, Walk the Line, and Gone Girl.
This talented actress is married to a normal guy, by the name of Jim Toth.
Jim Toth is a talent agent, so he no doubt was a fan of Reese’s, and he is a good influence. In an interview with People, Reese explained, [Jim] really surprised me,” she says. “You don’t know who you’re going to end up with. When I was 20, if you’d asked me … I wouldn’t have said Jim.”
The two have a son together, Tennessee.
Mariah Carey is powerhouse—her vocal range is insanity and she produces hit after hit. She is known in the music industry as being a diva and although I worship the ground she walks on, she also really intimidating. Can you imagine asking MARIAH FREAKING CAREY out of a first date?
Well, super fan and comedian/rapper Nick Cannon did just that. Maybe it helped that they met when he presented her with the Choice Music R&B Artist award at the Teen Choice Awards. Or maybe Mariah is more down to earth than we think and she the potential in a relationship with a cool, witty, down to earth comedian.
Mariah and Nick married on April 30th, 2008. Though the two have since split, they had two adorable children together: Monroe and Moroccan.
Most of us probably remember the painful stage of Britney Spears life when she had her love affair with her super-fan, Kevin Federline. He started out a backup dancer but quickly ascended his way of the ladder, right into the lap of Britney. Britney has since attested that she may have married him for the wrong reasons, and one could argue that perhaps Federline did not always have the best intentions from the tumultuous way that their relationship developed. But who are we to know for sure?
All that I can tell you with one hundred percent certainty is that Kevin, at least a fan of Spears for a time, successfully won the heart of the pop star, temporarily. The two married in 2004 and had two children together: Sean Preston and Jayden James.
We may as well start with the obvious--the beautiful, talent Julia Roberts! Julia has stared in some of the biggest blockbuster movies including, Steel Magnolias, Pretty Woman, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Runaway Pride, Ocean’s Eleven, Eat Pray Love, and many many more. Her career has spanned decades, but it was not until she was filming The Mexican in 2010 that they found the man of her dreams; camera operator Daniel Moder.
Moder, a fan of Roberts, clearly was just what the love doctor ordered. The happy couple was married in 2002 and they have three children together: Hazel, Phinnaeus, and Henry.
Roberts had been married previously to singer Lyle Lovett but it was short lived. The hunk that captured her heart was neither rich nor famous, but it does not seem to matter.
Unless you have been living around a rock, you probably have seen the photos of Zoe Saldana and her sexy Italian husband Marco Perego. Perego comes from humble beginnings but quickly made himself a success in the world of soccer, playing professionally until he was injured. Afterward, he worked as a busboy as he tried to solidify his career as an artist.
He, of course, was a fan of Zoe’s before they met. (But seriously, how could he not be?) Details of their whirlwind relationship are sparse, as the couple has been known for their privacy. But one thing we can all agree on—it seems like both the fan and the actress scored big in this relationship. They seem like the real deal.
They have three kids: Bowie, Zen, and Cy.
There probably was a time that we are all un-sure if Scar-Jo would ever “settle down”. Her career took off at lightening speeds and she was busy filming movies all across the world. She’s been in huge movies like Avengers, Rough Night, and Lost in Translation. She has been a symbol in young Hollywood of lust and desire. Surely many a famous man must have thrown himself upon her feet.
But Scarlet didn’t go for that. Instead, she found love with a French fan; Romain Dauriac. The two just recently finalized their divorce, but they have a child together, Rose. In a joint released statement they said, "We remain close friends and co-parents with a shared commitment to raising our daughter in a loving and compassionate environment.”
Look—they’re even good at divorcing.
Anne Hathaway started out in Hollywood as a teenager—she was the star of the popular movie The Princess Diaries which helped propel her into stardom. Since then Anne has only rose in the ranks adding titles under her belt like Les Miserables, The Devil Wears Prada, Alice and Wonderland, and the Dark Night Rises.
Anne had a very public relationship with real estate developer Raffaello Follieri in 2004, which ended disastrously when he was charged of defrauding his investors of millions of dollars. However, this encounter did not dissuade Hathaway for continuing her search for love in normal human beings. Anne moved on to bigger and better things, in a fan of hers a business man named Adam Shulman.
The two lovebirds have one child together (so far): Jonathan Rosebanks Shulman.
Gwenyth Paltrow did in fact marry a fan of hers—someone who had seen her movies and knew her face well. But he was not exactly a typical, regular guy. Gwenyth met her husband Cold Play lead singer Chris Martin at a concert when the Martin apparently asked if Gwyn would him backstage. Gwyneth had just lost her father and apparently Chris helped her move through her grief. His song “Fix You” is rumored to have been written about Gwyneth during this period. In it he says, “Lights will guide you home. And ignite your bones. And I will try to fix you.” (Excuse me for a moment while I sob into my shirt.)
After nearly a decade of marriage the two have split. But they have two adorable children together: Apple and Moses.
Lisa Kudrow made her splash in the cult classic movie Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion. She fully cemented her career as the lovable Phoebe on the hit show, Friends. But one thing you may not know about Lisa is that she has been married to her husband for over 20 years!
Lisa and her hubby, Michael Stern, met while he was dating her roommate (romantic, right?). He was a French adverting exec, and she was blossoming actress who earned her first fan. He was taken with her from the start but did not peruse her right away.
Though the spark was immediate, they did not actually get together until they were reconnected six years later at a birthday party.
The couple has a son together, Julian, who was born in 1998.
Alison Sweeney rose to fame through her character portrayal on the soap opera Days of Our Lives. You would assume she would with some hunky soap star, but she is actually with a hunky highway patrol officer by the name of David Sano-- and the two have been married for over 15 years! Though he works a normal job, he was a fan of his gorgeous wife’s from the start.
Alison says that every year on their anniversary they talk about their marriage. The Daily Mail reports, “We kind of give each other a job evaluation, which sounds a little embarrassing! We talk about our three favorite things about the other person and then three things that we could work on.”
This beautiful couple has produced two kids: Ben and Megan.
Julie Bowen reached the peak of her success with her role on the hit TV show Modern Family. She plays the neurotic, though lovable, character of Claire Dunphy. Many of you may not remember but Julie has been a host of high profile movies in the 1990’s, as well. Remember Multiplicity? Happy Gilmore? She was in both! Bowen has also appeared on the shows Lost, Boston Legal, and Weeds.
Anywho, Julie Bowen is not married to another celebrity. She has been with her husband Scoot Phillips, a real estate investor and software developer since the early 2000’s. Phillips, a fan of Bowen’s, got every man’s dream—he not only married this beautiful and talented celeb but also had three children with her; sons Oliver, John, and Gustav.
Not bad, I say. Not bad!
Lake Bell made it big on the hit show Boston Legal and has had continued success in Hollywood. She went on to star in many hits and made her writing and directing debut in Worst Enemy. The film was picked up at a handful of profile film festivals and Bell was named an “Inspiring Filmmaker” in 2012.
Bell trolled the celebrity dating field for a while, dating big names you may recognize like Colin Farrell. But Bell ultimately found love with a fan—a normal guy, doing a normal job. Scott Campbell, a tattoo artist, met Bell on the set of the show How to Make It in America in 2011 where he was being interviewed. The two were married in 2013 and have two children together; Nova and Ozzi (Ozgood).
Julianna Marguiles has been a high ranking actress for some time but her most recent, and arguably most famous role, was in The Good Wife. (Julianna’s character in this show is just about the most unlucky in love woman you have ever seen.) You may be familiar with her work as an actress but did you know that she is married to a super hunky, normal dude by the name of Keith Lieberthal? Yeah, me neither.
Lieberthal is a Harvard grad who practices law and who managed to steal the heart of one of Hollywood’s A-list actors.
The two were married while Margulies was pregnant with their son, Kiernan, who was born two months later. Lieberthal can’t help but be a fan his beautiful wife, and we cannot blame him.
Meryl Streep is gorgeous, smart, talented and has been nominated for 20 Academy Awards—the most nominations of any actor. She has also received 30 Gold Globe nominations. I know, she is amah-zing.
One would kind of assume that this sort of Hollywood royalty would be married to a prince or a musician or maybe even the President. But Meryl has been married to her husband, Don Gummer, since 1978. Don is not an actor or producer, but is an artist. He specializes in sculptures that are quite breathtaking-- but could not catch his own when he spied his soon-to-be wife, Meryl. He was a fan of hers from the start.
These two have four children together (Louisa, Mamie, Grace, and Henry), proving that love AND Hollywood can successfully co-exist.
Marcia Cross is married to stockbroker Tom Mahoney. But how did super-fan Tom meet the red haired bombshell? How does a connection like this even happen?
In an interview with Good Housekeeping, Cross explains how she first saw her soon-to-be-husband in Los Angeles as she was crossing the street. She might have been the superstar, but it was she who first took notice of him and left her number with the flower shop she spotted him at.
Although Mahoney was a fan of Marcia’s, he played it cool and asked her out on the day that she had been nominated for a Golden Globe—and never mentioned it. Cross said, "And I thought, That's really good; he's a regular guy. So we went on a date."
The couple have two daughters: Eden and Savannah.
