Sometimes, seemingly ordinary people catch their big breaks and instantly turn their lives into a fairy tale. One day, they are stocking the aisles of a supermarket or pumping gas at the Quik N' Go and the next, they are singing in front of millions of adoring fans on stage or starring on the silver screen alongside the biggest names in showbiz. Who doesn't love a good old rags-to-riches story, right? We sure do.

Do you know what else we love, though?  The riches to rags stories.  It's just as amazing to hear tales of the stars squandering their finances as if they own an entire vineyard of money trees. How do you make millions of dollars and NOT employee people to manage your finances? It is beyond us. We suppose that once fame goes to your head, it can truly make you feel invincible. Often times, the rich and famous fall just as quickly as they rose, and are left with only quarters in the pockets of their designer jeans.

These fifteen famous mommies prove that just because you have beauty and talent doesn't mean you have the slightest clue as to how to manage your money.

15 Janice Dickinson Was 1 Million Dollars In Debt

She might be best known for squawking her lame claim to fame to just about anyone with ears. Janice Dickinson is quick to tell anyone and everyone that she was the world's first supermodel. Even a title such as that wasn't enough for the former America's Next Top Model judge to make enough cash to stay out of serious debt. The once beautiful, but now strangely surgically-altered Dickinson was forced to file for bankruptcy in 2013, after she accumulated a whopping one million dollars in debt. Most of her debts were owed to either the IRS or unpaid doctors' bills. She reportedly owed eight thousand dollars to her dermatologist alone! That is a looooot of Botox, Janice. She has vowed to pay every cent back, but we aren't so sure that she will be able to rustle up enough work, now that she has pretty much offended every single person in the media and fashion industries.

14 Heidi Montag Burned Through Her Money

Heidi Montag is a former reality television star and a new mommy to a baby boy. She is also a total idiot who managed to lose just about every penny she made during her heyday. She didn't do it alone though, the lady had some help with her great financial blunder from her hubby Spencer Pratt. After all, what are husbands for if not to lend a hand to their wives? This dynamic duo of dumb were two of the few people on planet Earth that bought into that whole Death-Asteroid-Is-A-Coming prophecy that the Mayans concocted thousands of years back. Because the Pratts were completely and utterly convinced that the end of the World was upon us, they decided to burn through all the money that they had. After all, you can't take it with you when you die. The problem, of course, was that they didn't die, actually, none of us did, because the asteroid never hit. Shocker.

13 Pam Anderson Couldn't Pay It Back

Is anyone out there truly that is shocked that this woman isn't a mathematical genius capable of managing her personal assets? After all, she did strike it rich by running in slow motion down the beach wearing a red bathing suit! Pamela Anderson was one of the most recognized beauties in the 1990s because of her iconic television role on the hit show Baywatch and for marrying dirtbag rock and roll musicians. Basically, those are her two claims to fame. After her television and movie career fizzled out, Anderson turned her attention to fixing up her humble abode. She took on a serious home renovation project a few years back that cost her a whopping $1.1 million dollars. That, along with a heaping load of money owed in back taxes, forced Pam's hand and she had to file for bankruptcy in 2012.

12 Kelis' Milkshake Didn't Bring All The Money To The Bank

Her milkshake might have brought all the boys to the yard, but it didn't bring all the money to the bank! R&B singer Kelis had been married to mega rapper and Brooklyn native, Nas, for five years before divorcing him while she was heavily preggers with their son. Very quickly she went from Hip Hop Princess to barefoot and pregnant. According to Kelis, Nas's infidelity habits forced her hand, finally breaking up the pair for good. Right then and there, Kelis should have taken a page from Beyonce's book, Independent Women, before her dependency issues and financial mismanagement left her in desperate need at a most desperate time. The split left the Milkshake mama high, dry, single and broke for a short period, until a judge ordered Nas to pay his ex-wife a massive sum of six hundred grand a year.

11 Teresa Giudice Racked Up 13.5 Million In Debt

Real Housewives of New Jersey star, Teresa Giudice, brought a whole new level of flashiness to the popular franchise and Bravo hit television series. If it wasn't expensive, fur-lined and over the top, she wasn't wearing it, driving it or holding it. This mama had some serious standards and was ready to rule Jersey with a Cartier-laden, manicured fist. The Guidices certainly lived a life of luxury, along with their four daughters, in a home that looked like it should have belonged to Italian royalty, not a few over-spenders in Jersey 'burbs. All that living like a Queen landed Teresa in some hot water though when it was revealed that she, along with her hubby Joe, had managed to rack up $13.5 million dollars in debt! Mamma Mia!

10 Lena Heady Was Living Off Credit Cards

It's a little bit unbelievable that Lena Heady, aka Queen Cersei the most psychotic she-devil in all of Westeros, fell upon a time where she barely had two nickels to scrape together. Just a few years back, the Game of Thrones actress found herself embroiled in a nasty divorce and custody battle with her ex-husband Peter Loughran, that reportedly left her with less than five dollars in her bank account. Heady was living off of her credit cards and counting down the days until she received her tax returns so that they could be used to cover her living expenses. She also took a half a million dollar hit on her million dollar mansion that she had previously purchased in 2008, which certainly didn't help matters. Real life for Lena certainly wasn't mirroring that of her television life, where she portrays the richest witch in all of the land.

9 Toni Braxton Couldn't Maintain Her Lifestyle

Toni Braxton is beautiful, talented, and often times broke. After breaking into the music business with her sultry, soulful voice she spent a number of years rubbing elbows with the rich and famous. At the height of her mega-career, she had scored herself seven Grammy awards, nine Billboard Music Awards, seven American Music Awards and sold a whopping sixty-seven million records worldwide. You would think that considering such accolades Braxton would be financially set for life. Sadly sometimes what goes up, must come down. Unfortunately, Braxton couldn't maintain her wealthy status. She filed for bankruptcy, first in 2010 and then again in 2013. She eventually had to sell the rights to twenty-seven of her biggest hits just to settle her debts. This is one lady who cannot seem to break her poor money habits.

8 Dionne Warwick Only Had $1000 To Her Name

To this day, Dionne Warwick is one of the highest charting female vocalists of all time, with five Grammys to her name and over one hundred million records sold all across the globe. That has to count for something, right? Probably, just not a lifetime of riches apparently. The 1960s were certainly good to the soulful songbird, but the following decades, though? Not so much. Warwick managed to get herself into a ten million dollar tax debt after leaving her financial affairs to some very inept people who grossly mismanaged her accounts and sent her into financial demise. She filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2013 with only one thousand dollars to her name. That is quite the financial tumble considering that the singer used to rake in nearly one hundred thousand dollars a month!

7 Sarah Ferguson Loves Chanel... A Little Too Much

Sarah Ferguson's name is basically synonymous with scandal. Sarah Ferguson, or better known around the world as the Duchess of York, had been married to Prince Andrew before the couple divorced due to a lack of time spent together because of his intense naval career and her rumored infidelity. Although she desperately tried to reinvent herself by becoming a spokeswoman for high-profile businesses and a children's book author, the Duchess literally went from Princess to Pauper. The original Fergie also never quite abandoned her love of designer everything, which had been no issue when she was a part of one of the most wealthy and famous royal families in the world. Even after she got the boot though, she just couldn't give up her Chanel. Money mismanagement and an inability to pare down her lifestyle landed her in some serious financial debt.

6 Courtney Love Landed Herself In A Financial Hole

Residential Hollywood rocker mom Courtney Love has a lot of faults...buckets full probably. She has struggled for decades with drug addiction, her career fell off the rails, she lost custody of her only child multiple times and may or may have hurt her family pets with her hoarding tendencies. She also apparently doesn't do a great job at handling her money. Courtney found herself in quite the financial "Hole" following the death of her husband, Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. When she finally emerged from her grieving, she was welcomed by loads of debts and no great means to pay them off. In the end, she had to sell her home along with a quarter of Nirvana's music catalog just to claw her way out of financial ruin.

5 Margot Kidder Was Unable To Work

Margot Kidder has had a rollercoaster of a life if there ever was one. She rose to fame by playing the ever famous Lois Lane in the original Superman movie. She instantly shot to fame, but her personal life was too riddled with drama for her to enjoy any of the fruits of her labor. Kidder was married three times, but none of those unions lasted even a year. In 1990, she was involved in a serious car accident which left her unable to work for years, which led to her filing for bankruptcy. Things only got worse from there though, as the former Lois Lane started suffering from violent mood-swings and erratic and paranoid behavior that landed her in a psych ward for a time. Thankfully, psychiatric treatment and proper medications have helped Kidder regain some sort of semblance of the life she once had.

4 Kim Basinger Got Sued For 8.1 Million

Kim Basinger was one of the biggest names in a film back in the late 1980s and early 1990s. She had looks that could kill, a handsome and famous husband on her arm and was in very high demand in the film industry. The woman was on top of the world and was totally living the dream, until the dream turned into an utter nightmare. When the stunning actress filed for bankruptcy back in 1993 she was worth a little over five million dollars. She filed for bankruptcy when Main Line Pictures sued the actress for 8.1 million dollars, all because she backed out of the film. Her financial ruin couldn't have come at a worse time, considering she had just bought a small town in Georgia along with a number of other investors. Whoops!

3 Tia Carrere Ended Up Homeless

You might remember this lovely lady from the cult classic film 'Wayne's World'. Actress Tia Carrere was the cool chick who made all the boys go "schwing!" The role catapulted Tia into the high profile world of A-list acting and she landed a multitude of gigs that continued to keep her name in lights and her bills paid, for a while at least. Her Hollywood path wasn't completely sprinkled with roses, however, and Tia fell on some seriously hard times. She actually ended up homeless for a spell all because of a lowlife boyfriend who helped himself to all of Tia's hard-earned cash. Thankfully, her modeling agency bosses gave her a place to crash, but even with a roof over her head, she had to sleep in the hallway due to a lack of space. Tia Carrere is a perfect example of how quickly finances can change in Tinsel Town.

2 Lauryn Hill Failed To Pay Taxes

Queen of the Fugees, Lauryn Hill, had quite the miseducation of finances when she went broke back in the early 2000s. The IRS came knocking at this mother of six's door when it was discovered that Lauryn had failed to pay taxes on nearly two million dollars between 2005 and 2007. The singer-songwriter claimed in court that she had plans for paying up at some point, but it seems Ms. Hill forgot that citizens don't get to set their own tax timelines. The slight to Uncle Sam resulted in tax evasion charges as well as a three-month prison stay at a minimum security, female prison in Danbury, Connecticut, which Lauryn served in 2013. Even after her release, Lauryn was sentenced to three-months confinement and a one-year probation. At least she had plenty of time to solely focus on writing new music right?

1 Dorthy Hamill's Ill-Fated Investment

Back in the 1970s, Dorthy Hamill was the darling of the figure-skating world.  She was so popular in fact, that girls everywhere started to adopt her hideous haircut. That's love right there (so glad that thing hasn't made a comeback). Hamill used her grace and athleticism on the ice to capture the gold medal at the 1976 Olympic games. After her big win, she expected to be financially set for life, but she couldn't have been more wrong. Sadly, Hamill made an ill-fated investment when she purchased the doomed Ice Capades back in 1995. That purchase drove her to have to file for bankruptcy one year later, with an astounding debt of over $1.6 million dollars. We wonder if she had to sell her gold medal to help pay off her debt? She should have patented that haircut of hers.
