15 Lisa Kudrow's TV Pregnancy Is The Real Deal

Who could forget when everybody's "friend," Phoebe, gave birth to triplets! On t.v. the fun and quirky character carried the trio of babies for her infertile bro, but in real life there was an actual bun in actress Lisa Kudrow's oven. The triplet story line was dreamed up after Lisa found out that she was expecting and while most actresses are fist pumping over the thought of not having to suddenly "disappear" from their show or only be filmed from the neck up for a few months, Lisa was not in favor of the pregnancy write in. Rumor had it that Lisa was concerned that something might go awry in the pregnancy, and how would that affect the plot, the direction of the show and the show's characters. She might have had the unfortunate and sad Katey Segal situation on the brain.

14 Julia Roberts Fools Her Fans In 'Ocean's Twelve'

The pretty woman herself was expecting twins, Hazel and Phinnaeus, during the filing of 2004's Ocean's Twelve. Roberts played Tess Ocean, wife of resident world hottie (and real life pal) George Clooney. The movie was only a few weeks into production when she found out she was expecting not one, but TWO little bundles of joy with her hubby Danny Moder. The movie writers dealt with Julia's exciting development by writing her bump into the movie by having her play...herself. The sneaky crew of Oceans Twelve dressed Tess up with dark sunglasses and a "fake" bump and passes her off as none other than Ms. Julia Roberts herself in order to pull a massive heist. While Tess wasn't preggers in the movie, for at least one scene she got to portray a pregnant Julia.

13 Hayden Panetierre In 'Nashville'

Hot mama Hayden Panetierre plays sexy, rising country crooner, Juliette Barnes, on the outrageous plot twisting show Nashville. When Hayden and fiance Wladimir Klitschko found out that they would be welcoming a baby girl into their lives, the show's writers used the couple's joyous announcement to create some interesting plot twists in the hit series. Panetierre's character ends up knocked up after a one night stand with a nasty prominent record executive, played by stud muffin Oliver Hudson, and this ends up kind of being a problem considering that guy is most definitely NOT her loving and adoring television boyfriend. Sign these kids up for the Maury Povich show! Confession: I kind of love shows like these, so I'm wondering how the hell have I never seen Nashville before? I'm feeling a binge watching weekend coming on.

12 Alyson Hannigan Brings Her Bump On Set

Alyson Hannigan played the lovable Lily on the mega sitcom How I Met Your Mother for nine glorious seasons. Hannigan made up half of one of television's most adorable t.v. couples when she finally made it official with Jason Segal's character Marshall.

When Hannigan fell pregnant for the first time writers masked her bump with strategically positioned objects and bulky costumes and coats to best fit the script. Even though Lily herself wasn't expecting, producers still had a bit of fun writing in scenes like the above one where Hannigan's character kills it in a hot dog eating contest and the bump makes a snap debut as a food baby. When she found herself expecting baby number two a few years later though the shows producers and writers thought that the timing could not be more perfect and decided that while Alyson was incubating in real life her show's character Lily would also be awaiting her bundle of joy.

11 Jenna Fisher's Baby Lands A Role In 'The Office'

Jenna Fisher caught a serious break when her show's writers decided to knock up her Office character, the sweet and funny Pam Beasley. The day that she began filming the pregnancy episode, Fisher found out that she was expecting for real! How about that for a cosmic revelation. While Pam was already a t.v. mom to one tot, this was Fisher's first actual pregnancy with real life husband Lee Kirk. On top of her stroke of good acting-pregnancy luck, Jenna had a smooth sailing nine months and didn't have to deal with the onslaught of unpleasant symptoms that most of us expecting ladies do. This lucky lady sailed right passed morning sickness and swollen kankles leaving the rest of us in her glowing pregnancy dust. You could basically say that Jenna struck some serious pregnancy gold!

10 Jennifer Garner Doesn't Have To Hide Her Bump

Jen Garner played the butt kicking spy, Sydney Bristow, on the television show Alias when her character suddenly had to trade in round house kicks for burp cloths and baby bottles. When Garner and ex husband Ben Affleck found out that they were expecting their first baby together, the series creator J.J. Abrams decided to write the baby bump into the show rather than try and dance around it. On the show Jen's character Sydney and real life ex boyfriend Michael Vartan were busy kicking butt and picking out baby names while they awaited their bundle of joy. In real life Jen and Ben gave birth to a daughter, Violet. The celebrity power couple went on to have another daughter and a son before finally splitting up and going their separate ways.

9 Lucile Ball Makes TV History

Sixty years ago iconic actress Lucile Ball made history when she and real life and television hubs Desi Arnaz became expectant parents both on screen and off to the future Desi Junior.  It was in season two that CBS took the leap and wrote a made for television baby into the I Love Lucy script to reflect Ball and Arnez's real life baby to be.  This announcement made television history as pregnancies and babies were no common story line at this point in film. In fact it was considered so risque to broach the subject of babies to be, the word "pregnant" was never used...not even once!  It was such a scandalous  subject to dance around considering Lucy and Desi slept in side by side twin beds on the television show.  To announce a baby was on the way was basically saying that when the lights went out, the squeaky clean tv couple was getting down to baby making business.

8 Rachel Bilson Plays Her Pregnant Self In 'Hart Of Dixie'

Rachel Bilson goes from a big shot New York doctor to small to town mama in the television show Hart of Dixie. Bilson, who plays the lead character Zoe, finds herself unexpectedly knocked up after throwing caution to the wind and gets down with her flaky flame, Wade. In real life Bilson's baby daddy is far less flaky and far more hunky, (Bilson's fiance is Hayden Christensen.) A Hart of Dixie baby wasn't exactly what the executive producer had been banking on, but like many other show writers she decided to use her leading actress's condition as a creative tool for the show's direction. I'm sure Bilson was thrilled to be able to let her growing belly do it's thing and not have to spend countless scenes shooting and reshooting angles in order to best mask the bulge.

7 Katy Segal Suffers Heartbreak In 'Married With Children'

Peg Bundy was the high heeled, big haired wife of grumpy shoe salesman Al Bundy on the television sitcom Married With Children.  Katy Segal played Peg and was expecting in real life as her character was expecting during season six of the show's filming.  Sadly Segal suffered a traumatic, late term pregnancy loss when she delivered her baby via c section.  The baby, whom she named Ruby, was delivered stillborn.  The show's writers had the pregnancy become a figment of Al's dreams instead of seeing the t.v. pregnancy through and then having Katy have to act the part of a new mother.  Katy went on to have two healthy babies in 1994 and 1996, but the writers skipped out on writing in a pregnant Peg and shot Katy's scenes only from the waist up or in the seated position only.

6 Emily Deschanel In The Hit Show 'Bones'

Season seven of the hit television drama Bones gave us a baby Bones to love on. Emily Deschanel and her character Temperance Brennan were both preggers in the first half of season seven, making life a whole lot easier for the expecting star. The timelines of the real and television pregnancies were slightly off though, so after Emily gave birth to her son Henry, she had to return to work and complete her character's pregnancy. Because she had already given birth though she had to don a fake bump until Temperance was ready to push that baby out. Think about THAT! Enduring nine months of lugging around a real bump to only have to strap fake one on immediately after giving birth. That is some serious role commitment right there.

5 Molly Ringwald Doesn't Have To Act Pretend

Molly Ringwald made a serious name for herself back in the eighties acting in cult favorite films such as The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles and Pretty In Pink, but as Ringwald grew from teen to woman, her acting career grew and evolved as well. The stunning red haired beauty landed a role on the hit television show, The Secret Life of the American Teenager. On the show Ringwald plays an anxious mother to a teen mom and in a plot twist ended up preggers herself. Already a real-life mother to a beautiful five year old daughter, Molly found out that she was expecting not one...but TWO babies and writers decided to write the bump into the show. Considering her character, Anne Juergans, has had to deal with her mother's Alzheimers, a cheating spouse and a knocked up fifteen year old, just being preggers must have felt like a complete reprieve.

4 Pregnant Jenna Elfman Plays A Pregnant Woman

Jenna Elfman is the funny, quirky actress who starred on the short lived television sitcom Accidentally on Purpose from 2009 to 2010. The show revolved around Elfman's character Billie and her desire to start a family in her mid thirties with her main man, but when he says no way she does the most irrational thing that she can think of. She goes and gets drunk and knocked up by a younger man who then attempts to step up to the plate and make things work. Elfman might have played an unconventional pregnant lady, but in real life her coinciding pregnancy could not have been more traditional. Elfman and her husband Bohdi have been together nearly twenty years and now have two children together. Twenty years is just about an eternity of marital bliss in Hollywood years!

3 Ginnifer Goodwin In 'Once Upon A Time'

Ginnifer Goodwin for the win! Not only does she get to act in a fairy tale based television show with her real life love, but when the two found out that a little princess was on the way, the show's writers wrote her pregnancy into the script. It doesn't get luckier than that! Ginnifer plays Snow White and fiance Josh Dallas plays the role of Prince Charming in the ABC fantasy drama Once Upon A Time and as if living out your fairy tale dreams with the real man of your dreams wasn't perfect enough, the lovebirds get to welcome their bundle of joy both on and off screen. It seems that after both actors spent some years kissing their fair share of frogs (both Goodwin and Dallas have previously been married or engaged,) they finally made their personal and professional fairy tales come true. Paint me jealous.

2 Rachel Griffiths Pregnancy Is Written Into The Script

Rachel Griffiths is the talented Australian actress who portrayed the complex and sexy character, Brenda, on HBO's Six Feet Under.  Griffiths was pregnant with her first child, a son whom she named Banjo, during the third season of filming and subsequently missed four episodes due to her condition.  When she became pregnant with her daughter in the final season of the show the writer's threw her a bone and wrote the pregnancy into the script.  This was a real gem for the expectant actress who relished in her ability to just let it all hang out during filming and not have to spend an entire season hiding behind lampshades and bookcases to mask her growing bump.  The television pregnancy also gave the show and edgy twist that was perfect for a final season of an already intense television drama.

1 Carterina Scorsone In 'Private Practice'

Art imitated life in the television drama Private Practice when beautiful actress Caterina Scoresone and husband Rob Giles found out that they would soon be inducted into the parent"hood."  Luckily for the mama to be Caterina didn't have to spend the season being filmed hiding behind giant lab coats and surgical tables, because writers decided to let the star's character, troubled doctor Amelia, grow along with her.  Scoresone's character had certainly been going through the ringer over the past few seasons as she found herself struggling with alcohol dependancy, falling off the sobriety wagon after the death of a close friend, undergoing an intervention and landing herself in rehab.  All things considered an unexpected pregnancy was kind of the perfect curve ball to throw into the character's life of turbulence.
