Parents always want the best for their children and are proud to share their cute moments: the first words, first steps, and funny situations. Our timelines are full of those lovely moments. However, it does take courage to share things that you just want to forget but can help other parents.

There are always those moments a mother and father wish they could come back and do differently. See a child suffering is probably the worse nightmare of any parent. Although they can’t change the past, sharing those experiences with groups and social media can help other parents to avoid the same mistakes and keep their children safe.

Today, it’s common to see parents sharing their struggles online and, as many people feel related to it, those posts often become viral and sometimes make the headlines. Who could ever imagine that innocent toys like fidget spinners and Slinkys nearly killed children? Or that a simple fall from the bike could hide serious damages for days? Or even that the child's homework can hide some deceiving message?

We selected 15 mom warnings that went viral and can really be helpful to other parents. Not all of them had a happy ending.

15 Sara Guidry - 27 Nails Found In Her Son's Mouth

Biting finger nails is common among children. However, Sara Guidry’s found out something shocking that happened to her son and shared it on Facebook, warning parents to pay more attention to that. It didn’t take long to her post and the video she shared become viral.

Guidry told that one day she saw something white in her son’s gums and pulled it out with a tweezer. It looked like a fingernail and she found more of them in other parts of his gums. The mother claims that she removed 27 fingernails from his mouth.

"The dentist has never seen anything like this. We figured out that Kale bites his nails and plays with them in his mouth. He pushes them up towards his palate. The nail penetrates the skin and goes into a pocket between the baby teeth and permanent teeth. Don't let your children bite their nails! If you can handle the disgust check out the video."

14 Samantha Rodger - Kissing Baby Can Lead To Herpes

Parents have many concerns about their babies, but most of them can’t imagine that their small children can get an SDT. The British mother, Samantha Rodger, shared her experience on a post and told that she was devastated when she heard that her 14-month-old contracted herpes, probably from a family member or friend, who was kissing the baby.

This is what happens to babies when been in contact with a cold sore. Oliver now has the herpes virus and will have this for life,' warned the mother. Her post and pictures of her babies covered with marks, became viral on the internet all over the world. Amy brought up the discussion about being careful when making contact with babies and that a kiss may bring issues for a lifetime.

Cold sores and saliva transmit herpes type 1, that is Amy’s son case. While Herpes type 2 affect the genitals.

13 Alex Morgan - Pool Filter Caught Her Daughter's Hair

Earlier this year Alex Morgan shared on Facebook on an incident that happened during a vacation in the Canary Islands. Her 6-year-old daughter, Darcey, almost died when she got stuck in the swimming pool’s filter and was held under water for over 2 minutes.

"Darcey was swimming underwater when her hair got sucked into the filter that operates a waterfall in the swimming pool. Her hair was stuck and she was unable to get up to the surface. She was kept under the water for over 2 minutes”, wrote.

“Darcey was unconscious and had to be given CPR at the poolside. She was taken by ambulance to Arecife Hospital where she underwent x-rays, tests and was under close observation. Her oxygen levels were low and she has lots of fluid on her right lung. Luckily we got to bring Darcey out of hospital the following morning. However, it could have been a completely different ending to our holiday”, she added.

The post reached more than 150 thousand shares.

12 Emma Bozner - Never Leave Kids Alone With A Slinky

Emma Bozner warning about a classic toy became viral last year. She posted a picture of her son’s injured neck after playing with a Paw Patrol slinky.

The 3-year-old boy, wrapped the slinky around his neck three times. “It was so tight around his neck I couldn’t get a big enough gap to fit scissors through and cut it off. However after pulling it from the back (and choking him in the process) I managed to get some of it cut only to find it was metal wire inside and was a lot harder to cut through”, wrote.

The mother warned other parents: "Each second that passed was a second closer to losing Brooklyn, but luckily I managed to get it cut and off his neck, leaving his neck all cut and very sore. I know slinkys have been around for years but any mommies and daddies on here, could you please ensure that you don't leave your child alone playing with a slinky?"

11 Alison Johnson - The Danger Of Two Cribs

In 2016 Alison Johnson used her Facebook status to share a terrifying experience with her 18-months toddler. Johnson is the mother of the twins Caleb and Libby, and as many parents, she used to keep the cribs together. However, one day the mother heard Caleb crying just a few minutes after he started taking a nap and she headed to the room to check what was going on. She saw that her son climbed out of his crib and almost had a very serious accident.

“He had climbed out of his crib and was stuck between his crib and Libby's crib. His body fits through, but his head wouldn't. He was using every ounce of energy he had to hold himself up by his little arms. If they had given out, he would've just been hanging there by his head”, said in the Facebook post. After the incident, she moved the cribs further apart and lowered the baby’s mattress.

10 Rebecca Cannon - Sunscreen Isn't Always Safe

When Rebecca Cannon borrowed her sister’s sunscreen she could never imagine the nightmare that was about to come. She rubbed the Banana Boat Kids Sunscreen Spray SPF 50 on her hands and spread on her 14-month-old daughter’s face.

It didn’t take long to the baby’s face become red and swollen and it looked worse the day after. The mother rushed to the ER, where the doctor told that her daughter had second-degree burns. It took a while to Cannon think about the sunscreen, since everybody used it the day before and only her daughter was burnt.

“Please watch and be careful when using aerosolized sunscreen ! I have done a lot of research. Since coming home and have found a disturbing amount of cases like ours. I don't know why it's not removed from the shelves !!” she wrote.

The mother also posted several pictures showing the burns.

9 Kelly Rose Joniec - Fidget Spinners Can Be Deadly

Without a shadow of a doubt, fidget spinners are the hottest toy at the moment. But the apparently naive toy can also have some risks, as warning Kelly Rose Joniec, a mother from Texas On a Facebook post she told that her daughter Britton, 10-year-old-swallowed a part of the toy and ended up on surgery room to remove it.

Joniec tells that, while she was driving, she heard her daughter making a “retching noise” and saw the girl’s face turning red. “She pointed to her throat saying she’d swallowed something, so I attempted Heimlich but there was no resistance. She said she’d put part of her fidget spinner in her mouth to clean it and somehow swallowed it.”

The mother ran to an urgent care and Britt was sent to Texas Children’s Hospital. An X-Ray revealed that a smaller part of the spinner was placed at the girl’s esophagus. Fortunately, doctors were able to remove it and the story had a happy ending.

8 Jordan DeRosier - Never Put The Baby To Bed With Blankets

Not all stories have a happy ending. Jordan DeRosier , a mother from Washington, shared the traumatic passing of her 7-month son in July this year and warns parents to be careful when placing blankets in cribs. “You never think it will happen to you. You never think it will be your baby. Please do not put your babies to bed with a blanket”, said on the viral post.

He was last laid down to bed with this blanket made by his great-great grandmother, and one other blanket, a gray one he had been attached to since birth, wrote “They took the gray one he had been found with his head in. He had pulled it through the crib rails somehow and gotten himself stuck in it.”

Family’s friends started a fundraising to help them to find a new home after the tragedy.

7 Amanda Cropsey Florczykowski - A Predator Warning

On 19th February 2016, Amanda Cropsey Florczykowski posted on her Facebook account a warning about a possible a potential sex-trafficking scam against her two-year-old daughter. The post was shared 170 thousand times and also made the headlines. While the Texan mother was with her toddler in a local store when a couple started making conversation and showing too much interest in her baby. Florczykowski says that something felt wrong about the couple.

“ (..)The woman was so close at this point that my toddler reached her arms around the woman before I could really respond. In an instant, her proximity finally changed and she backed away. I grabbed back on to my daughter as the woman was saying, "Say bye to mommy" - what an unusual comment to provoke a child to say. The woman resisted returning her when I physically pulled my daughter from her arms.”

The mother reached the sex-trafficking police and, on her post, she shared advice to protect children.

6 Kait Ellen - Watch Out For Trampolines

Another post that went viral in June was a warning about trampoline dangers. Kait Ellen, the mother of a 3-year-old boy, posted a heartbreaking picture of her son crying in the hospital after falling from a trampoline in Florida. The little boy broke his femur .

“As hard as it is to relive the past 12 days, we feel compelled to make other parents aware of the danger associated with indoor trampoline parks. Colton fell and broke his femur, the strongest bone in his body, while innocently jumping alongside his dad and I,” wrote the mother. “We were not bouncing in the same square as Colton when the injury occurred. We were in the squares right next to him.”

After having her life turned upside down, the mother found out that, although it is very popular among small children, specialists recommend that children younger than 6-year-old should never use a trampoline.

5 Tiffany Rivera - Son Has A 50/50 Chance Of Survival

We all know how important is to wear a helmet while biking. Last year, Tiffany Rivera, reinforced that on a Facebook post, that was shared more than 30.000 times.

Her 10-year-old son Jaden fell while riding a bike. "He showed no signs of trauma and continued about his day”, wrote. Two days later the boy woke up with a headache and lethargy. When the mother noticed a spot on his temple, she decided to get him to the hospital. On the way, Jaden started vomiting.

The diagnosis was a right temporal fracture of the skull and right temporal epidural hematoma. The Doctors explained to me that my son needs emergency surgery within the hour to try and save his life. The chances of him making it were a 50/50 chance”

Jaden had to go under surgery and survived. The doctors consider his case a miracle.

4 Melissa Aho - Teach Kids The Risk Of Alcohol

In 2016, a Facebook post written by Melissa Aho went viral on social media and made the headlines. In October the Massachusetts mother, received a call saying that Ryleigh, her 15-year-old daughter, was passed out . She found the girl frothing at the mouth and covered in vomit. An ambulance was called and Ryleigh’s life was under risk for 14 hours due alcohol poisoning.

Pleading and begging for my daughter's life, I experienced flashbacks from the moment she was born, to her first smile and giggle, the first time she said 'Mumma', her first step, her 1st birthday, her first day of school, her first friendship, sleepover, sickness, her graduation of middle school, our private mother-daughter moments, laughing, joking, running, snuggling and so forth," wrote on Facebook.

Aho also shared shocking pictures of her daughter in the hospital aiming to warn parents and teenagers about the risks of alcohol. The post has been shared more than 150.000 times.

3 Kathy Di Vincenzo - Standing Up For PPD

Kathy was always careful when choosing the pictures she posts on Instagram: All images show a happy young woman and her lovely children. However, this year she decided to share something that couldn’t be seen in the images: kathy revealed that she suffered from postpartum depression and her post soon became viral.

“ I feel like it's time to show you what that can really look like, not just the side of me that's 'Facebook worthy.' The truth is, both of these pictures represent my life depending on the day”, wrote captioning the picture.

“ The only thing more exhausting than having these conditions is pretending daily that I don't. I work twice as hard to hide this reality from you because I'm afraid to make you uncomfortable. I'm afraid you'll think I'm weak, crazy, a terrible mother, or the other million things my mind convinces me of and I know I'm not alone in those thoughts.” added.

2 Maria Luce - Locked And Loaded

Parents would do anything to protect their home and children. When Maria Luce, a mother from Texas, saw a masked men breaking into her home in the middle of the night, she was able to go unnoticed by the bugler.

Luce believes that the buggler knew that her 14-year-old son had a stock of Yeezys at home to trade online, but she didn’t tell what was taken from the house. Nothing happen to Luce and her family, but she decided to leave a message to the buggler online. The woman posted a video holding a shotgun with the caption - “We are locked and loaded. And WILL use it. This. Is. NO. GAME,” she wrote in a caption. “To the young teenager that broke into our home this afternoon in broad daylight - NOW you have committed a FELONY.”

Of course the video went viral and it was watched 90 thousand of times in a few days.

1 Lynne Polvino - Sexist Homework Is A Thing

A simple “filling the blanks” homework became viral. Lynne Polvino posted a picture of her daughter's homework. The New York mother was shocked with the content of the task, focused in a girl who was extremely upset because her mother was going back to work. All the girl wanted was the mother to stay at home, since her and the father were completely lost doing the home tasks

Polvino decided to rewrite the text to prove a very important point and show her daughter that a working mother is a very positive thing. The post became viral and raised many questions about how apparently naive content can hide deceiving messages.
