Ah, parenthood. It’s the stuff dreams are made of. Thousands of hopeful couples are out there reading this right now and praying that this is their month. The month they’ll embark on their journey to becoming Mom and Dad. It’s a beautiful thing.

Still, not every road to parenthood starts off this way. For a lot of parents, it’s a surprise that a baby is on the way, and many of them — mostly dads as it would seem — are quite spooked by the idea of having to suddenly grow up, be a role model, and settle down.

Sadly, a lot of babies are born into this world with fathers who just aren’t interested in being daddies. They can’t seem to put their personal wants aside to satisfy their child’s needs. It happens all the time. Roughly 17.2 million children are being raised in homes without fathers these days.

The deadbeat dad often brings to mind images of guys in wife beaters who spend more on their weekend hobbies than child support and rarely cash in on their visitation time or show up for dance recitals and ball games. But some deadbeat dads out there look like anything but the stereotype, and they’re still slumming it as fathers. Welcome to the world of celebrity deadbeat daddies.

15 Michael Lohan

Lindsay Lohan’s dad has possibly made more headlines than his own daughter actually has. His erratic behavior over the years has caused a lot of upset in the starlet’s life. It’s no secret that Michael continues to battle addictions to both alcohol and cocaine — habits he insists his ex-wife and Lindsay’s mother, Dina, shared with him.

Michael has lapsed repeatedly in paying child support. He’s not been helpful at making the payments for his son’s private school tuition, either. His landlords claim he is a terrible housekeeper and doesn’t take care of household maintenance or keep up with landscaping. In fact, one landlord remarked that the property Lohan was living in with his kids was growing mold. Despite being unsafe, Michael wouldn’t let the pros come in to treat the issue. Great job, Dad!

14 Dennis Rodman

This baller brings to light a pretty important issue: the cycle of fatherless families. Rodman never knew his own father very well. Dennis has spoken publicly saying he doesn’t really know how to be a dad. He claims he loves his children and has a genuine interest in them, but he doesn’t know how to convey that to them. Ummmm, maybe pick up the phone, or even pay child support?

Back in 2012, a court ordered Rodman to pay his ex-wife, Michelle, $500,000 in arrears toward child support. Payments he didn’t make in 2009 and 2010 led to a judge ordering him to perform 100 hours of community service that same year. Who else is picturing Rodman on the side of the road with one of those bags in his hand and the pitchfork in the other while he picks up trash? If only he would do in it drag.

13 Val Kilmer

When Val Kilmer married Joanne Whalley, we imagine he didn’t foresee them splitting up eight years later. Despite their best attempts at a happy home life, Kilmer’s marriage fell apart at a time when his career was at its sharpest peak. This isn’t uncommon in the Hollywood spotlight.

The couple shared two children together, son Jack and daughter Mercedes. So, child support was a given. Val’s career didn’t keep soaring after the late 1990s. As his income fell, his responsibility to his kids seemed to wane right alongside it.

In 2011, Whalley went public with the news that Kilmer owed her a sum of $27,500 in back child support. This hasn’t been Kilmer’ only trouble with the law or money. In 2009, the Internal Revenue Service went after Val for unpaid taxes that amounted to $538,000. He settled that debt by mid-2010, but again found himself with a lien from the IRS to the amount of $498,165 later that year. Yikes!

12 Mathew Knowles

Daddy to none other than Queen Bey, Mathew Knowles has made his name well-known in the industry, and not in a good way. It seemed fame and fortune didn’t serve the dad-slash-manager all that well. He stepped out on Bey’s mother more than a few times, and even fathered a child with one of his mistresses. No word on whether he supports that child or not.

When it came to daughters Beyonce and Solange, Mathew definitely dropped the ball. In March of 2011, Beyonce and Mathew arrived at a mutual decision to part ways in the business world. While Bey took to the media to denounce and rumors that she was dissing her pops altogether, she didn’t deny that there was an allegation he’d stolen funds from her.

A trial proceeded and an investigation found that funds were indeed misappropriated in Mathew’s favor. He still denies taking money from his daughter to this day, but the pair never reunited for business purposes.

11 Bobby Brown

There’s quite a history there when it comes to Bobby Brown. His ill-fated relationship with ex-wife Whitney Houston was traumatic for his daughter — Bobbi Kristina — to be a part of. With both of her parents dabbling in substance abuse throughout her life, and the death of her mother in 2012, young Bobbi Kristina turned out better than most people had hoped.

Over the years, when her parents would split up, she remained in the custody of her mother. Contact with her dad was always limited, although it is reported Whitney never kept her from him. Rather, Bobby Brown chose not to step up to the plate.

Bobbi Kristina died in 2015 and it was alleged that her father had very limited contact with her in the last five years of her life, despite his public outcries over his daughter and how much he would miss her. Bobby Brown actually has five other children, and doesn’t appear to be a standup father to any one of them.

10 Jude Law

What can’t we say about Jude Law? If there’s a crappy mistake that dads make too often, he’s done it. Most people remember him for his dashing good looks and that British accent; some might even keep him in mind as their favorite rom-com actor. Others can’t get past that nasty scandal with the nanny when he was with his ex-fiancee Sienna Miller.

What people might not know is that Jude is actually the father to five children. His first three kids came by way of his marriage to Sadie Frost. It was the fourth that really tipped the scales. His daughter, Sophia Burke, was born to mode Samantha Burke.

While Jude has since made plenty of attempts to care for both Sophia and her mother — whom he reportedly had a one-night fling with — that came after he adamantly denied paternity to the child until a test proved otherwise.

9 Skeet Ulrich

We loved him in Scream, despite the fact that he broke our hearts and tried to kill everyone in the end. Sorry for the spoiler, but if you haven’t seen it yet, it’s been over twenty years. So, get going. Skeet Ulrich may not be a name on anyone’s lips in Hollywood these days, but his name is still floating around. At least it is at the local courthouse.

Child support brings with it a slew of rules and regulations that parents need to abide by — mostly the paying parent. For Skeet Ulrich, nothing seemed to be going in his favor back in early 2013 after he stopped paying child support. To be fair, the court does allow paying parents to fall several months behind before they jump in and take action. Still, that wasn’t enough for Ulrich. He was charged with contempt of court for back child support owed in the amount of $284,861.84. Ouch!

8 Alec Baldwin

Alright, it’s not exactly a secret that Alec Baldwin isn’t father of the year. He’s deserving of a lot of catchy titles, but that isn’t one of them. Baldwin shares a daughter with his ex-wife, Kim Basinger.

Back in 2007, Dad was supposed to have a scheduled phone call with his little girl, but she missed the call. Instead of being bummed that he wasn’t going to get to talk to his daughter, Alec proceeded to leave her a vulgar voicemail that berated and degraded her. He even referred to his own daughter as “thoughtless little pig”. She was just 11-years old at the time.

While their relationship is on the mend nearly a decade later and they’ve made peace with Alec’s sketchy past, one must wonder what it’s like to have their own father come at them in that way. At the time, PR for Baldwin claimed he was under an immense amount of stress and the tirade may have been fueled by his past drug addiction issues. Excuses, excuses.

7 Nas

Back in 2012, Nas released a song titled Daughters in which he put a bit of his own heart and soul out there, perhaps hoping it would bridge the gap with his own daughter whom he had neglected for most of her life.

The lyrics read: “I saw my daughter send a letter to some boy her age

Who locked up, first I regretted it then caught my rage, like

How could I not protect her from this awful phase

Never tried to hide who I was, she was taught and raised like

A princess, but while I'm on stage I can't leave her defenseless

Plus she's seen me switching women, pops was on some pimp shit

She heard stories of her daddy thuggin'”

Destiny Jones, his daughter, hasn’t been too forthcoming about their relationship now that she’s an adult, but it’s clear Nas was nowhere to be found when she was growing up. We understand the sentiment behind the song and the need some men feel to make up for lost time, but wish they were more understanding of the hard work it takes to be a parent — let alone a single parent. You don’t just get to come along when they’re grown and try to be a daddy.

6 Caitlyn Jenner

Yes, she’s still a dad. My oh my how things have changed in Cait’s world. For starters, she used to be Bruce. Let’s just throw that right on out there. When she decided she wasn’t going to be Bruce anymore, she wasn’t very upfront about it to her family. She just sort of let them figure everything out at the same pace that the rest of the world did.

Then she started to transition from being a male to a transgender female. She started dating a woman, while she herself identified as a woman. She did several interviews that painted her ex, Kris Jenner, in an awful way. Hey, that’s the mother of Cait’s children, remember.

If that wasn’t bad enough, she moved out to Malibu away from her family and then started complaining when they didn’t visit frequently enough or touch base with good old Dad, who was busy living a whole new life she didn’t bother to include them in on at all.

Seems like Bruce was extremely introverted and liked to take the back seat to all the women in his life, and Cait has went overboard trying to compensate for that demanding everyone take a seat next to her as she takes center stage. Maybe the kids have had enough of the limelight, Caitlyn.

5 50 Cent

Speaking of Dads who like to show up years later and profess their love… Fiddy hasn’t done so well for himself in that department. In May of 2014, Marquise Jackson — son of rapper 50 Cent — graduated from high school, all with zero thanks given to his daddy-o.

In fact, it seems 50 Cent has been absent pretty regularly from his son’s life judging from the statement young Marquise made that day. In a photo posted online of him embracing his mother as his graduation ceremony, Marquise captioned it with, “Yea I broke down. I was really excited to see my pops at my graduation today but he never showed up. My sister and mama is always there for me. Just know that you wasn’t. I did it without you!”

We wonder how it felt for 50 to read those words and know the shout out was aimed directly at him for being a bad dad. By 2016, 50 finally made an effort to reach out to Marquise, and he was shut down promptly when Marquise replied to 50’s birthday well wishes for his son with a statement that implied he was surprised 50 even knew when his birthday was.

Not too shocking. After all, in the past, 50 has gone as far as to tell his own son he wants nothing to do with him and to refrain from contacting him. Must’ve been busy in the club.

4 Charlie Sheen

While we can’t just run around taking angered, bitter baby momma’s words as the gospel, it’s pretty alarming that both Denise Richards and Brooke Mueller have referred to Charlie Sheen as a deadbeat dad. Last year, Brooke took her case to court when Charlie failed to pay even $11,000 of the $55,000 he was supposed to pay her monthly for their seven-year old twins.

This wasn’t new territory for Sheen, though. Back in 2014, he went through a similar battle with his other ex, Denise Richards. She wasn’t too happy that Sheen hadn’t been paying the court-ordered $50,000 a month he owed her.

It’s hardly all about money for these hard-working moms, though. Sheen has been accused of physical and verbal abuse by a slew of partners over the years. While no direct mention of abuse toward the kids has been mentioned, we can’t help but wonder what they were exposed to. Speaking of exposure, Sheen’s latest ex is now suing him for not having disclosed his HIV positive status before having sex with her. He’s also battled serious drug and alcohol abuse over the years. Fatherhood at its finest!

3 Woody Allen

We could probably pull together an entire piece on Woody Allen alone when it comes to his parenting tactics. Let’s get straight to the point, though. Woody Allen married his step daughter Soon-Yi Previn. Allen has spoken only a few times to the press about his relationship with Soon-Yi, though he hasn’t had as much restraint when speaking about his ex, Mia Farrow — Soon-Yi’s adoptive mother.

If marrying your step-child isn’t enough, Woody has largely credited himself to turning Soon-Yi’s life around, leading her into a life of education, wealth and culture. He boasts about this as though he saved her in some way. Maybe he did, but the point is he’s hardly humble about it.

Mia’s other adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, has made the accusation for years that Woody molested her as a child. He has denied these claims, and very arrogantly professes that none of this negativity surrounding his character ever really touches him. He’s just above it all, apparently.

2 Arnold Schwarzenegger

Back in 2011, after twenty-five long years of marriage, the Terminator and his wife Maria Shriver called it quits. Their marriage was over, and fans of the actor-turned-governor would be rocked by the reasons why. As it would turn out, news broke that Arnold had an affair with a household employee of twenty years, roughly ten years earlier. That affair presumably fathered a child.

The young boy, Joseph Baena, is 19-years old today. He’s the spitting image of his father back in the early 1980s when we fell in love with him as Conan, the barbarian. It was tough for fans to come to terms with the fact that Schwarzenegger cheated on his lovely wife, but even more so difficult to swallow the news that he’d been neglecting his own child all those years, too.

1 Jermaine Dupri

While Jermaine Dupri may be a household name, Sarai Jones is not. At least, it wasn’t until she was suing baby daddy Jermaine for a cool $10,000 in back child support. Dupri was ordered to pay $2,500 a month for his then seven-month old daughter with Jones, but financial hardship coincidentally fell upon him at the same time that he became a dad.

At the time, it was noted that Dupri was in debt to the state of Georgia for a reported $493,000 in back taxes from 2007. He also failed to make his mortgage payments on time. In 2011, his house was foreclosed upon down in Atlanta.

Georgia isn’t the kindest state when it comes to parents who don’t pay child support, and it doesn’t matter if it’s the mom or the dad. While they can request that the amount they are to pay be modified, a man with Dupri’s career status and wealth would have little excuse in front of a judge, and he could land himself in jail for not staying current with child support in the peach state.
