Parents try to keep their kids safe for the most part; it’s one of our many important jobs. Even so, it’s inevitable that kids will get hurt on occasion, or get themselves into mischief of one sort or another. Sometimes it might be a parent’s carelessness that causes a problem, but sometimes it’s all on the kiddos.
Kids are notorious for doing some pretty dumb things. They aren’t functioning at full brain capacity yet, after all, nor are their judgment skills up to snuff. Kids may not realize that what they are getting themselves into is dumb—or even dangerous—but most of the time, parents are expected to keep the kids from harm. Say for example, the kid decides it would be fun to jump from the couch to the coffee table in order to ‘avoid the hot lava carpet’. The child doesn’t yet realize that the coffee table has sharp edges that may or may not be capable of leaving permanent scars. Mostly, we imagine that the parents will stop said kid from making such a dumb decision, thus keeping the bad thing from happening to their kid.
Parents can’t prevent every dumb thing though. Unavoidably, a few dumb things are going to slip through. Kids will be kids and all that. Here are 15 dumbest things parents let happen to their kids…and wasn’t it nice that the parents caught it on film for us? Let’s hope we can all learn from this list, so we don’t let any of these dumb things happen to our own children! I’m sure there will be other dumb things we won’t be able to avoid…
**Warning: This is a little graphic. If you don't like to see blood, you might want to skip this one.
This mom and her kids are doing what so many of us do in the summer: go to a waterpark. We generally think that places, which are designed for kids, are generally safe. But, there are always going to be those kids who push the limits, or just don't think before they do things, and they get themselves into some mischief. Well, this poor little guy thought it would be fun to put his eyeball right up to a water squirter, and the pressure caused some very real damage. So dumb. Of course we feel terrible for him, and you do clearly hear his mom telling him 'no' as she's filming after she realizes what he's about to do. It all happened so fast though, and then it was too late...

Okay...so this is a pretty dumb thing to let happen to your kiddo...buuut also pretty funny. I'm always quite entertained by other parents' misfortunes (non-fatal ones, of course!), it keeps me from wanting to stick my head in the oven on the bad days. This makes me feel like the super good mom I am, because I've never let one kid coat the other one in a vat of Jiffy. Still, we've all had a pretty similar situation to this, I'm quite sure. I think I've blocked out all the worst ones...If you deny something often enough, it no longer exists, right? Right? Right. Didn't happen. So then maybe I haven't experienced something like this after all. See? Denial. It's powerful.
This poor mom had the good sense to film this situation though, so the rest of the parents of the world can see what happens when you try to go take a shower and leave your kids alone for 55 seconds.

What??? You can win a toddler for 50 cents these days? Awesome! But, I'll tell you a little secret. Come closer... You can have mine for free!! Only joking, people. Although, I did recently threaten to sell mine to the circus, but he didn't believe me. “Besides,” he said. “I don’t like clowns.”
What in the world was this mom so distracted by that she didn't notice, not one, but two of her children entering the claw machine? I get it. Kids love them some fluffy unicorns, or whatever cheap a$$ toy lives inside those machines at any given time, but this is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. How could mom let this happen to her kids? I'm sure they weren't going to die of anything other than fluffiness overload, but it's still pretty crazy, and had to be frightening for the little ones. Maybe these kids saw their dog crawling through one too many flaps and thought they should try it.

I'm gonna just tell you right up front that the baby does not get hurt in this video. Even so, you are still going to be squirming in your chair as you watch this poor little infant get rolled over by this car. Obviously, the parents themselves are not filming this incident, the security camera catches it on tape, but this is still so incredibly dumb that I had to include it. Yes, these things do happen. It was clearly an accident, and wasn't overly careless on the part of the parents, but it's still just so horrifying. Parents: you have got to be on 100% of the time when you are caring for children. I know it's tough and you're tired, but you can't grow complacent, especially when you have a baby. Maybe when the kids are a bit older and can fend for themselves, you will be able to lower your guard but not with a little one. Take care of your kids!

Players gonna play play play play play, and the haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate...I'm just gonna paint paint paint paint paint, yeah!
Just like the peanut butter mom, it's hard to imagine how this dad allowed his kids to do this to each other. Obviously, he didn't hand them the paint and say, "go to town", but one still wonders what pops was doing while this was going on. Surely it must have taken these two artists a good sum of time to get this sort of perfection from their craft. These two boys are absolute dolls, and you can see why dad just couldn't work himself up into any real anger over this insane situation, because it's just too adorably horrible to get upset over. Dad's got his hands full, that's for sure. I'm thinking he's gonna do a better job of hiding the paint jars next time.

Most parents would agree that trampolines are a dangerous entertainment choice for the youngsters. All sorts of accidents are reported each year from trampolines, and this probably isn't even the worst... I know I got a leg stuck a time or two in my day, and I'm pretty sure I fell over the side. Luckily, I never got my head stuck like this poor girl though. Here she is, showing off for daddy and the camera, and then this dumb thing happens. I particularly like how dad actually chooses to still upload this video to YouTube. Pretty messed up, dad! Hopefully, the daughter was okay, and it all worked out in the end. Dad may want to think about getting one of those trampolines that have netting next time. Still, girl has got some moves. She has great aim, too! Got her head in the hole on the very first try!

Hold on. Are you saying it's okay to torture the kids and give them terrible presents, just for the entertainment value of seeing how they will react? Okay. I'm game. This is hilarious. Let's all just admit that we get a teensy bit of enjoyment out of torturing those monsters, because they sure get a lot of enjoyment from torturing us.
One of my fave Jimmy Kimmel videos was the one where he asks all the parents to pretend they ate their kids' Halloween candy to see how they would react. This is the Christmas version of that diabolical plan, and it's just as wonderful. Kids be spoiled. We gotta mess with them sometimes just to remind them to be grateful. Sure. It’s a totally dumb thing for parents to do to their kids, but it’s so cathartic. The kid is pissed at you for a while? So worth it.

Kids love pony rides, and I feel like most pony rides are relatively safe, but this poor child has a cruel family. They put this little boy on this pony bare back and then swat the horse on the behind so that it will run. The poor little guy is clinging to the horse for dear life before he finally slips over the side of the horse and falls to the ground. He clearly gets scraped up in the process, and I feel bad that his family did this to him. He didn't seem to be enjoying the ride very much. Seems pretty dumb to put your kid on a horse without a saddle, helmet, or any other safety equipment and force him to ride the pony fast. Luckily, this time, the kid didn't receive any major injuries, but he could have been seriously hurt. That pony may be small to us, but to a small child the horse is quite large. It could have thrown him into the fence or stepped on him. Not a great idea, parents!

Alright, so technically the parents don't even seem to be present during this mad situation, but it still seems likely that they know the kids are in the playroom gettin' rowdy. Boys will be boys, we all know how they can get, but ya might want to get a handle on them, before they take you for another trip to the emergency room. Or they destroy your house, whichever comes first.
This little guy is just trying to show off his mad b-ball skills, but things go awry. Yowza! I've heard of taking a basketball to the head, but you don't often hear of someone taking the whole backboard to the head. Well, it was a pretty sweet dunk, and sometimes you've got to bleed for your sport. It's just part of the game, and if you aren’t giving it your all, then what are you doing? The parents might want to secure this hoop a little better for next time…
Oh my goodness. Can you even imagine letting your kid get his head stuck like this?? In concrete, no less. Come on parents! Get a handle on those kids, or else you are going to be drawing quite the crowd! I know that kids are cray, and that they do things that parents can't possibly predict, but this is just terrifying. Thank gawd they were able to get this kid out relatively quickly. Here's a bit of advice: tell your kids to never stick their head in rails.
I'm super glad that this whole situation was caught on tape, because now every time I pass a railing I'll be ordering my kids to stay away. I'll also tell them the story of how this kid got his head stuck and the rescuers had to use construction tools to get the poor little guy out. That ought to give them some good healthy nightmares...

I feel like quads are really unsafe in general, but even more so when kids are driving them. They are fun, yes, but you must take the utmost precautions when allowing children to ride them. One of the great things about being a kid is that you have no fear, but that fear is useful. It keeps you alive. If you don't know how to be careful, accidents can be the result. These kiddos are wearing helmets, so that's great, but the parents should still be a little more cautious, because letting your kids get hurt in ATV accidents is just dumb. There are enough dangers in the world without adding more to the list. This is only one video of, likely, thousands. Many of the accidents don't work out quite this well. Many of them are horrifying. Parents let some really dumb stuff happen to their kids, and some of those things are preventable.

Kids are going to get hurt. That's one of those inevitable things that even the best parents can't prevent. Still, when it's the parents' fault that a kid gets hurt, that's no bueno. These parents are just pushing the little one on a tire swing, but I have to say, my heart was thumping hard while watching, because that baby was really high up from the ground. I don't think that the kid should be riding that kind of swing just yet, what do you think? A little bit too young. Then, you hear mom warning dad that the kid will fall off if you tell him to wave. Obviously he doesn't have the coordination to wave and hold on at the same time. Dad was just asking for his kid to get hurt. It was almost like he secretly wanted the kid to fall, because he thought it would be funny. Well, these parents are just lucky that their dumb carelessness didn't cause this kid to really get hurt.

Sure, we can't protect our kids from everything, and even should we if we could? But, there are some very common household injuries that are known for causing serious damage to children. The invention of the baby gate happened for a reason, you know, like, kids were getting seriously injured falling down stairs. But, this dad doesn't really care about all that. He's filming his little girl walking down the stairs, and she clearly doesn't have the coordination for it yet. He shouldn't even be filming her right now, he should be right next to her in case she falls, but no...he's willing to risk it. And mom knows that this situation is not going to end well. You can hear her telling dad that it's a bad idea, but she should have picked up that baby right away. Thankfully, the mom catches baby before any serious damage could be done. Let's use our brains, parents. Don't CAUSE accidents, if you can prevent them.

This Florida mom uploaded a video to Facebook in which she films her baby girl getting bit by a small red snake. The world was enraged at the mom's behavior, and the authorities were called in to investigate, but no charges were actually filed. Mom says that she was trying to teach her daughter not to touch snakes, and that she knew the snake was too small to actually hurt her child, just scared her a little. Even so, the video is hard to watch, and you can hear mom laughing as the baby is bitten and starts to cry. Mom adamantly denies that she would ever intentionally harm her baby, and that it was all to teach the little girl a lesson in handling wildlife. Mom, that was still a pretty dumb thing to do. Not even just the snake handling, but why would you post something like this on Facebook?
Talk about dumb...this mother decided that it was totally okay to let a tattoo artist permanently ink up her baby boy. Not only did she allow this...it was her idea and she filmed it! This woman is insane, but she's also part of a religious cult that encourages such behaviors. This child abuse took place in Cuba. If a mother had done something like this in the United States, then she would have been arrested. Seriously, there are some things that you just don't do. I don't care what freedoms you think you deserve. You never have the right to permanently mark up someone else's body. You want to tattoo your own body? Go for it, it's your body. But your child is not your possession. Your child is not an extension of you. They are separate from you, and you don't have the right to mark them without their consent!
