Nicole Kidman was born on June 20, 1967, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Her father, Antony Kidman, who was a biochemist, clinical psychologist, and author. As for her mother, Janelle Ann, a nursing instructor who also edited her husband’s books and was a member of the Women’s Electoral Lobby, were both in the United States at the time on student visas. Nicole and her parents, who are originally from Australia, didn’t move back to their home country until she was four years old.

It was during her middle and high school years that she took up a passion for acting. It all started after she watched the inspiring performance by Margaret Hamilton as the Wicked Witch of the West in the hit movie, The Wizard of Oz.

It wasn’t until 1983, at just the young age of 16, that Nicole Kidman would land her first part in the remake of the Australian holiday, Bush Christmas.

Nowadays, when one hears the name Nicole Kidman, they right away think of the actress. Everyone knows her name and her staple blonde locks. She is known for the many awards she has won thanks to her countless movies, including an Academy Award, two Primetime Emmy Awards, five Golden Globe Awards, a BAFTA, two Critic Choice Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award and the Silver Bear for Best Actress. Impressive right?

However, there is more to Nicole Kidman than what is shown on the red carpet and behind the camera lens. Her life also revolves around being a mother (some of them, anyway) and wife.

Here are 20 facts about Nicole Kidman's journey to having the All-American family (or is it All-Australian?)

20 Nicole Was Married To Tom Cruise (before he went coo-coo)

Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise first met in 1989, while on the set of their movie, Days of Thunder. They were young, dumb and in love (it's a saying,) when they married on December 24, 1990. At the time, Nicole was only 23 while Tom, a few years her senior, was 28. Oh, young love.

When Nicole Kidman was asked about her marriage to Tom Cruise and living in the middle of the spotlight for all those years, she described the decade-long relationship as being in a romantic bubble that made the connection between her and Tom even closer, according to People Magazine. She described it in a Vanity Fair article as this:

“There is something about that sort of existence that, if you really focus on each other and you’re in that bubble, it’s very intoxicating, because it’s just the two of you, and there is only one other person that’s going through it. So, it brings you very close, and it’s deeply romantic.”

Looking back at the relationship now, Nicole is shocked that she married so young. According to ETOnline, she told Red Magazine that,

"I was so young when I got married. I look back now and I'm like, 'What?'"

She even compared herself to Taylor Swift in the interview by saying, "You look at Taylor Swift, I mean how old is she? She's 26. I had two kids by the time I was 27 and I'd been married for four years," she says. "But that's what I wanted."

Even though she married young, and it did not last, the Oscar-winning actress had no regrets (that she told the public anyway, I'm sure Tom Cruise wasn't that easy.)

19 The Multiple Miscarriages

When it comes to her life, Nicole Kidman seems to keep a lot of things hidden from the public. Her marriage to Tom Cruise, their divorce, her adopted children and her current marriage to country singer, Keith Urban. There are a few details that she has allowed the public to know. For example, the tragic loss of two babies she carried while with Tom Cruise.

According to the Daily Mail, at the very beginning of her marriage to Tom Cruise, Nicole expressed her profound interest in having children. Sadly, pregnancy was not in her cards. Her first loss happened shortly after the pair wed back in 1990 when Nicole was only 23 years old. However, this loss was not a miscarriage. In fact, Nicole suffered an ectopic pregnancy.

As with most celeb news, the ordeal was wrongly reported, and it was broadcasted after her first interview that she had suffered a miscarriage. The Daily Mail reported Nicole saying,  "It was wrongly reported. It didn't happen. I had a miscarriage at the end of my marriage - but I had an ectopic pregnancy at the beginning of my marriage. It was incredibly traumatic for me."

The first loss is what drove the newlyweds to adopt their daughter, Isabella, and later their son, Connor.

The second loss happened right around the time Tom Cruise filed for divorce in 2001.

18 Adopting Isabelle And Connor

When Nicole Kidman suffered her first loss, she turned to adoption. It was in 1992 when Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman adopted their daughter, Isabella Jane Cruise. According to The Famous People, it was with the help of the “Church of Scientology,” that they would legally be able to adopt Isabella from her biological mother. It is reported that Isabella's birth mother could not take care of a third child due to financial issues. It was the church (and we use the term loosely,) that she would reach out to in hopes that Nicole and Tom would be able to adopt her child. Isabella Jane Cruise brought a ray of sunshine and hope into Nicole and Tom’s lives. Nicole quickly bonded with her and that bond grew stronger over the years, that is, until they divorced.

When asked why Tom and Nicole adopted their second child, a few sources had their theories that it was to save their marriage, which was in jeopardy due to personal and emotional differences.

Their second child, Connor Cruise, was adopted at just four months old, in 1995. Information on his birth parents are unavailable and Connor actually grew up thinking that Nicole and Tom were his biological parents. Any time he would ask about his skin color, his adoptive parents would just tell him that he inherited the traits of Nicole’s ancestors from Australia. It wasn’t until 2012, during a news conference for his film, “Red Dawn,” that he would find out when a reporter asked him about his biological parents.

17 Peace Out, Tom!

When it comes to Nicole Kidman’s marriage to Tom Cruise, there isn’t much that has been publicly broadcasted, which is the same with their divorce. (Thanks, Scientology!) They both met in 1989, were married in 1990, and spent the entire 90's married. On the outside, one might think that they had the perfect relationship. They were both gorgeous, were both famous, and they both were members of the Church of Scientology.

Luckily for Nicole, Tom Cruise abruptly filed for divorce, in February of 2001. He cited that there were “irreconcilable differences” and requested that he be given joint custody over their children. No one really knows what the real reason is that they divorced.

When asked, Tom will sometimes say, “Nicole knows what she did,” or, “Ask Nicole.”

There have been rumors that Tom Cruise’s faith as a Scientologist played a part in their divorce. Either way, neither of them have spoken publically about the reasoning for the split. But, by the looks of her face above, she couldn't wait to say PEACE OUT TOM!

16 Nicole's Happily Ever After Ending

Some might say that when it comes to power couples, Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman are the right representation of what a power couple means.

According to The Insider, the two love lovebirds met in 2005, while attending the G’Day USA Gala, an event that occurs in Los Angeles in which industry leaders and key influencers are brought together to cultivate and enhance the Australia–United States relationship. Nicole Kidman told Ellen in a 2013 interview that she didn’t think Keith Urban even liked her at first. She stated in the interview, "I'm like, 'You didn't love me at first sight, you didn't notice me,' and he's like, 'Yes, I did but I just didn't let on. But we kind of met and then about four months later he called me."

*Insert fangirl squeals here*

Nicole Kidman knew in their first month of dating that she wanted to marry Keith Urban. They dated for a while and were later married in June of 2006. When asked about her marriage in 2014 during an interview with Elle Magazine, Nicole says, "I kind of like getting married and then getting to know each other; I know that it sounds incredibly strange, but to me, it's a more natural process."

15 Waiting For A Baby That Never Came Until...

Nicole Kidman is pretty hush-hush when it comes to her personal life. One thing she has been very open about is her fertility issues. She has been trying for years, and sadly, when it comes to getting pregnant naturally, she hasn’t had much luck.

“I had tried and failed and failed and failed. Not to be too detailed, but I’ve had an ectopic pregnancy, miscarriages and I’ve had fertility treatments. I’ve done all the stuff you can possibly do to try to get pregnant.” Nicole said.

It wasn’t until 2008 that she would finally be able to give birth to her first daughter, Sunday Rose, with new husband, Keith Urban.

She called the birthing event, “the miracle of her life.” Her last daughter, Faith Margaret, was born through a surrogate, but doctors were able to use Nicole’s parts and Keith’s golden manhoods for the process. When asked why she chose to use a surrogate, Nicole responded that with her age, it can be dangerous to have a baby. She wanted to make sure that her child was born healthy and without complications.

Nicole Kidman has had a long hard road when it comes to wanting to be a mommy. Throughout it all though, she says she has no regrets, according to Baby Center. “All of my kids are highlights of my life. I remember when we adopted Bella, her looking at me for the very first time. That is extremely powerful, like a kind of birth, too. They are all my biggest joys,” says Nicole Kidman.

14 The Relationship (Or Lack Of) With Isabella

Nicole Kidman and Isabella Cruise have had a roller coaster of a ride when it comes to their relationship. They started out with a strong bond when Bella was a kid. However, when Nicole and Tom Cruise split, so did the mother-daughter relationship. Bella, along with her brother, went to live with Tom. Meanwhile, Nicole, whose career was going straight to the top, buried herself into her work after the divorce.

It seems as though time does not mend broken hearts, because twenty-five years later things have not changed it seems between them. So much so that Nicole wasn’t invited to Bella's wedding back in 2015. Though the ceremony was a quiet and personal wedding, Bella did not invite either parent to the wedding, due to her not wanting the publicity and paparazzi crashing it. Which is understandable. What makes it worst though is according to a source, Nicole didn’t even know about the wedding.

The source told the New York Post, “'The wedding was a Scientology ceremony. Nicole wasn't there. She didn't even know about it.”

There have been other events in the past that have made people think that their relationship really is over. One is that Bella doesn’t even call Nicole mom anymore, another being that Bella wouldn’t even go to the funeral after her grandfather, Nicole’s father passed away.

There have been reports that they do speak from time to time, but not in the way most mothers and daughters speak.

13 Another Flopped Relationship With Son, Connor

Ever since Nicole Kidman married her current husband, Keith Urban, back in 2006, the relationship between Nicole and her adopted children have been the subject of much speculation. She was even quoted telling GMTV in an interview in 2007 that they don’t even call her mom anymore. Then in an interview with Hello! Magazine in 2010, she said that after her divorce in 2001 with Tom Cruise, the children were the ones who chose to live with their adopted father instead of her. She was quoted saying, “I'd love them to live with us, but what can you do?"

There have been a lot of rumors circulating that Nicole Kidman’s relationship with her adopted son, Connor, is as broken as her relationship with her adopted daughter, Isabelle. Connor himself said in an interview with Woman’s Day Australia, “I love my mum. I don't care what people say, I know that me and Mum are solid. My family means everything. Yeah, I love my music, but the family comes before everything else.”

However, that’s all they are- rumors.

One source told Us Weekly that, “Isabella does still speak to Nicole, as does Connor, just not as much as they used to when they were younger when Tom and Nicole were together.”

Some might say that it was the children’s choice of religion that separated them from their mother. Both children chose to follow in Tom Cruise’s path and become Scientologists.

Either way, Nicole has been vocal in her children’s choices. She told Vanity Fair in 2013, “I've chosen not to speak publicly about Scientology. I have two children who are Scientologists — Connor, and Isabella — and I utterly respect their beliefs."

12 Keith's Stint Getting Clean (Again)

Nicole Kidman married her second husband, Keith Urban, back in 2006. Their union together was not a happy one at first. You see, the couple was only married four months before Keith Urban checked himself into rehab. At the time, he had become addicted to some hard substances. His friends, along with Keith’s wife, Nicole, had staged an intervention in the hopes that he would seek help. The country singer was hesitant to go so early in his marriage. According to Us Magazine, Kieth told Oprah, “I thought, surely let's give it a few years so we've got some solidity because this kind of thing could tear us apart. This could just destroy us."

It turns out that this stint to rehab was actually Keith’s third trip in eight years. He told Oprah, “I had to make a decision which road I was going to take, once and for all. I'd been at that crossroads before and always taken the wrong road."

When Oprah Winfrey asked him, what was different this time, he responded with one word, “Love.”

After the intervention, Keith took off to rehab. All that mattered to him was getting his life together and getting back to his wife.

Nicole shared some light about her marriage with Keith Urban. She also told Oprah, “I think marriage is about, every day, trying to make it better and working through things and when things are tough, saying, 'I'm going to come to you and talk,'" she mused. "We're just very tight, and we stay really tight."

11 Sunday Rose Makes Her Debut To The World

Nicole's dreams finally came true when she became pregnant with her first biological child, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban. It was shortly after her two-year wedding anniversary that the 41-year-old gave birth to her baby girl in 2008.

According to the Daily Mail, after the glorious event, her publicist, Paul Freundlich, had this to say, “'Nicole and Keith Urban are delighted to announce that Nicole Kidman gave birth to a baby girl on Monday morning, July 7, 2008, in the United States. Sunday Rose Kidman Urban weighed 6lb 7oz. Husband Keith was by Nicole's side and mother and baby are very well.”

Both, Nicole and Keith, had known the gender of their baby for several months but had opted not to tell anyone.

A friend of the family told People Magazine, “'She's never been happier and healthier. She is absolutely radiant and enjoying nesting.”

According to Perez Hilton, Nicole Kidman attributes her pregnancy to a dip in the magical Australian waterfall of Kununurra, which she swam in while working on the film Australia. Sunday Rose is actually the seventh baby to be conceived during the films production stage. it is said that women who had gotten pregnant while the film was being made, had taken a swim in this magical baby water just before their pregnancy test turned pink.

10 Nicole's Choice For Surrogacy With Faith Margaret

Just three years after the birth of their first daughter, Sunday Rose, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban welcomed their second daughter, Faith Margaret, on December 28, 2011, in Nashville. Faith, who is the biological daughter of both Nicole and Keith, was born through a gestational carrier. Nicole has remained quiet about who the host is and even hid the birth of daughter from her family and friends due to the fact Nicole and Keith wanted a few weeks of bonding time before announcing her to the world.

According to People, the family said, “Our family is truly blessed, and just so thankful, to have been given the gift of baby Faith Margaret. No words can adequately convey the incredible gratitude that we feel for everyone who was so supportive throughout this process, in particular, our gestational carrier.”

9 Why She's So Closed-Lip On The Carrier

When Nicole Kidman, who was already mom to adopted 19-year-old Isabella Cruise, 16-year-old Connor Cruise, and biological daughter Sunday Rose, who was 3 at the time, decided to try for a second child at the age of 43, both her and hubby Keith Urban decided it would be safest for both mom and baby to go with a surrogate.

Their decision to keep the surrogate secret was due to the pair wanting to protect everyone involved.

Nicole had this to say to an E! presenter on the red carpet of the SAG awards, “I wanted to be able to tell everybody because I was so excited about her. But we just decided this was our thing together. It kind of just perpetuated itself and it protects her, and it protects everyone in the situation." When explaining the reasoning behind Nicole’s choice of names, she told the represent, “We needed lots of Faith.” She continued by then explaining that the reason they chose Margaret for her middle name was to pay tribute to Nicole’s grandmother, who welcomed her last child at age 49. “As an older mother I wanted to pay tribute to her," she explained.

8 The Meet And Greet Between Daughter And Surrogate

When it comes to being a mother to her children, Nicole Kidman has admitted that while parenting her children she tends to be “intensely emotional.” She wants to make sure that she is completely honest with her daughters, this includes the birth of her second daughter, Faith Margaret, and how she came into the world.

It took a lot of deliberation and discussions with her husband before Nicole Kidman finally decided to allow her daughter to meet the woman that carried her for nine months, according to Now To Love.

It’s rumored that the meeting happened after Nicole’s emotional and intense role in the movie Lion, where she played the adoptive mother of a young boy looking to discover where he came from.

According to Now To Love, insiders revealed that the meeting did take place and it went down in Nicole and Keith’s home in Nashville. They wanted Faith, who is now six years old, to feel comfortable. Having the meeting at their home meant that not only would Faith feel more comfortable, but she would also feel relaxed and confident.

A source close to the actress and her country singing husband explained the meet and greet as being, “an incredibly emotional event.”

7 The Backlash Rolls In

Having a child is supposed to be a joyous occasion. For Nicole Kidman, it has been greeted with nothing but nastiness. According to Herald Sun, a lot of trolls saw using a surrogate as being wrong, especially when it comes to celebrities using surrogates to have kids.

It wasn’t long before Nicole and Keith announced the birth of their daughter, Faith Margaret before bloggers started spewing garbage and trolling all over the internet.

One woman had this to say about the happy couple: “I hope this isn't a Camille Grammer birth, where she didn't want to mess up her body or busy schedule."

Another person wrote this: “If it's the bio daughter of Keith and Nicole, how come Keith and Nicole didn't have her? There were no "reported" problems with Sunday, however ... Nicole never really did get very big ... baby bump from starsbump.com?"

One more user said: "Well . . . HELLO, she gave birth a couple of years ago, so I guess that shoots down the possible medical problems. If you can have your own child, do it. Some people are so lazy."

It is sad when people like these three are willing to run their mouths off and pass judgment on someone without knowing the whole situation, especially when Nicole has been very vocal about her fertility issues and her ectopic pregnancy.

6 Sunday Rose And Faith Margaret Today

On a recent trip to Australia, the Daily Mail reported just how much Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s two daughters look just like their famous mom now. Sunday Rose, who is 8 now, and Faith Margaret, who is 6, have grown so rapidly in the last few years that they are almost catching up to their mother in height.

Both girls are different when it comes to their personality and career choices. For example, Nicole Kidman revealed that her daughter is following in her footsteps while walking the red carpet at the Palm Springs International Film Festival in 2017.

“My daughter just got cast in her school play, so that's been the main priority, learning lines with her.”

She also stated that Sunday Rose is taking her role very seriously. “'I just got off the phone with my husband, and Sunday was in the background going, 'You've got to get off the phone and help me with my lines dad.’ He runs lines with me, and now he's running lines with his daughter.”

Keith Urban must be some acting coach. He could teach me anytime.

Their youngest daughter, Faith Margaret, on the other hand, is the opposite. When it comes to fans, her father Keith Urban is her biggest fan. Her dream is to follow in his footsteps and become a musician. She was just 5 years old when she first started taking guitar lessons with dear dad.

5 Acting, Motherhood And Wifey Duties: A Day Is Never Over

When you are a parent with more than one child, it can be a struggle to balance your daily life on top taking care of your children. For Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, they must try to balance their both successful careers, their relationship and their family life.

In a 2017 episode of the Today Show, Nicole revealed how she and her bae always put the family first when juggling their careers and home life.

“There are times when it gets put out into a family meeting and we all decide whether we can move here for a period of time and mummy can make a film or daddy can go do this,” she explained during her interview.

She made sure to note that her daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, also get a say in what happens.

She went on to recall a recent situation where her family all vetoed a project she was thinking of doing. “It was just whether I was going to do Photograph 51, which was a play I did in London, whether I could take that to New York and do it. Both my kids said "no" and my husband said, "I hope not". So, there it is,” she said with a smile.

It was obvious that she was neither bitter or unhappy about the situation. She gushed: “That's the life of an actress who also ultimately priorities family because that's what's going to happen at times. I would have loved to have done that on Broadway, but I love my kids and my husband far more.”

4 The Reason She Is Estranged From Her Adoptive Children

Details about Nicole Kidman and her adoptive children have always been back and forth when it comes to the public, though they try to hide their distant relationship, it is no secret that it is complicated at best. As we know, it started after the kids came to be under their father, Tom Cruise’s, full care in 2005. They were homeschooled by Tom’s sisters, called Katie Holmes “mom,” and on several occasions were reported calling Nicole an “SP,” or “Suppressive Person,” which is the worst thing you could call a person in Scientology terms.

It basically means that, if you believe the reports, the children were spouting off at the mouth Scientology lingo about their own mother and labeling her as a person they would be happy to never see again. It was during the time that Tom married Katie Holmes, that Isabella was invited to work for Katie Holmes clothing line, Holmes and Yang. Isabella and Connor were reported speaking their disinterest for their mother, citing Scientology doctrine that dictates that people outside of the religion should be viewed as enemies called “Suppressive Persons,” or “S.P.s,” and should not be associated with.

It is safe to say that Scientology is the reasoning behind why Nicole is not close to her two adoptive kids anymore.

3 No One Is Too Good For A Budget Store

A celebrity life can be a glamorous life. Expensive cars, big houses, name brand shoes, clothes, and accessories. It is hard to imagine seeing a big named celebrity shopping around at a store like Walmart, Kmart, or even Target.

It was a nice and sunny day in Los Angeles when Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban, and their two daughters were spotted shopping at a local Target store. The shopping spree came just hours before Nicole found out that her new HBO television series, Big Little Lies, was nominated for six Golden Globes.

The adorable family was seen leaving the budget store with a cart overflowing with goodies and boxes. Nicole was seen keeping a tight hold on Sunday and Faith, while Keith pushed the overflowing cart.

This just goes to show us that no one is too good to shop around at budget stores.

After the news of Nicole’s Golden Globes nominations, Keith took to Twitter to tweet an adorable message to his loving wife.

“Hey, baby- CONGRATULATIONS on all the GLOBES love this morn!!!!!! Incredibly proud of you, the work, and all the BLL and TOTL team. THE STARS ALIGNED!!!” He tweeted.

2 Isabelle's Adopting! Who's Helping Her Out?

Isabella, who was born on December 22, 1992, was given up by her mother due to financial reasons. Her mother was a married mother of two living in Miami and who was also a member of the Church of Scientology. Tom and Nicole being of the same church, heard the mother reaching out and asking if they would like to adopt her daughter.

It is because of her adoption that Isabella now wants to adopt a child of her own with her husband.

It wasn’t until Nicole Kidman’s rep spoke to Gossip Cop that we learned that it was all false and the source who spoke to In Touch was an unreliable source.

It was in a recent report that fans of Nicole Kidman learned that she was helping her daughter, Isabella Jane, adopt a child with her husband, Max Parker. According to In Touch, Nicole is not only helping her 25-year-old daughter in the adoption process but is also helping to pay for them to receive pre-adoption counseling to prepare for the baby.

1 Her Rumored Pregnancy

It was in 2017 when a source reported that Nicole Kidman, age 50, and Keith Urban, also age 50, were looking for a new surrogate in preparation of a third child. These rumors turned out to be false.

In recent reports, it has been reported that Nicole Kidman is now pregnant with her third child with husband, Keith Urban. She was seen sporting a baby bump in recent events and a source close to the couple even confirmed that she was, in fact, pregnant.

It was during a romantic dinner date with her husband on May 19, 2018, that Nicole was seen with a prominent stomach bulge. Another source even spotted Nicole making a toast twice during that night, but instead of wine, she was drinking water. The source added that it was highly unusual to toast with anything but a full glass of wine.

A rep for the actress commented to a journalist that, “I do not comment on her personal life,” when asked about her pregnancy. Technically, the rep did not confirm or deny the rumored news, which has caused even more stories about her alleged pregnancy to surface.

I guess we will just have to sit back and wait until the couple announces for sure if they are expecting or not.
