, than you may not know that she is English—and has the accent to prove it! Her biography states that her early childhood was quite exciting—she may have an English accent but Millie Bobby was actually born in Spain. Her family quickly moved to the UK after her birth, and then four years after that they opted for a cross-county move to Orlando, Florida.
Maybe it is the experience of living around the world that has given Millie Bobby so much depth for someone so young. Or maybe it is because this kid was born to act. You can’t deny that there is something about her that makes her seem so much old than thirteen…
If there is one giant perk that I would be ecstatic about as a famous person, it would be that you get to meet other famous people. And become friends with them.
Take Millie Bobby—she was invited by Drake himself to go backstage at one of his concerts. During a red carpet interview with
Can you just imagine Drake and Millie Bobby together, fawning over each other backstage at a concert? Hugging and giving each other high fives? This is what dreams are made of, folks.
. In an episode entitled, “Closet? You’ll Love it!” Millie Bobby played the part of Lizzie.
As with any actor who makes it big, it is fun to go look back at their career and see how far they have come. It is interesting to realize how many times you may have been exposed to an actor and not realize it—and then years later they have become someone famous; someone whose face you now know.
(I swear this happens most frequently on episodes of
. I will go back and watch a re-run and it seems like every episode is boasting a famous person as a guest star, before they found their step.)
I bet before
Stranger Things that you would be willing to bet that you had never seen Millie Bobby Brown before. But you are probably wrong. If you are emphatic TV watcher, and made it through all of the muck of those middle seasons of
Grey’s Anatomy—than you have actually seen her act before.
According to IMDB, Millie Bobby was in 2015 episode of the show entitled, “I Feel the Earth Move”.
She played the part of Ruby, but upon looking back she is almost unrecognizable—mostly because she has long hair.
You would think that hair does not do that much to a person’s face, but it ain’t true. Hair completely changes a person, so many of us probably have seen her and had no idea that it was her….
She Shaved Her Head In Final Auditions
In a video via
Instagram, Millie Bobby explained that her bald head was not a cap and that it was an
a-ha moment for her.
She says, "The day I shaved my head was the most empowering moment of my whole life. The last strand of hair cut off was the moment my whole face was on the show and I couldn’t hide behind my hair like I used to. The only image I had in my head about what I could possibly look like is Charlize Theron in Madmax [sic]. As I looked at myself and couldn’t see my old self, I realized that now; I have a job to do and that is to inspire other girls that your image or exterior part is not what I think is important…”
Playing Eleven Has Its Challenges
It is probably no surprise that playing such an interesting and unique character like Eleven on
Stranger Things is a challenge, and Millie Bobby would agree. But maybe not in the ways that you would think.
In an interview with
People Magazine Mille Bobby explained, “It was different from other roles because in those I had to speak a lot. I had, like, paragraphs…And in this show, I realized I didn’t have to speak with my mouth, I had to speak with my face.” She continued, “Instead of actually saying I’m angry, I’m sad, I’m confused, I had to do it with my face, and that was challenging. But I really enjoy playing a challenging role. I love playing Eleven.”
Well whatever part of her body she was acting with, it is fantastic.
She Loves Winona Ryder
If you were watching movies in the 1980’s and 1990’s, then you are most likely a fan of Winona’s as well.
Edward Scissor Hands? Little Women? Reality Bites? Mermaids? Beetle Juice? Girl Interrupted? Winona has been in hit, cult-classic films in every generation. But remember—Millie Bobby is only thirteen—how much could she possibly know about her famous co-star?
Maybe she has not watched every movie that Winona has been in but she is clearly aware of her co-star’s talent. In an interview with
US Weekly at New York Fashion Week Millie Bobby explained, “Her talent and her drive [are inspirational],” Brown said. “She is just such an incredible actress, but also a really amazing person.”
(Fun fact: Just Jared reported that Millie Bobby is the one introduced Winona to Snap Chat.)
She Loves The 80's
For those of us who are
ahem slightly older, 80’s movies were our jam. But remember that Millie Bobby was born in 2004. Millie Bobby explained that she has always had an affinity for the 80’s—and it paid off. In an interview with
Deadline, she explained that her initial audition for the role of Eleven consisted mostly of talking…about other things.
“We didn’t talk about the show once. We actually spoke about ’80s movies and were talking about what my favorite things to do are, and what music I listen to,” said Millie Bobby. She went on to say, “Yeah, I saw every ’80s movie—Stand by Me, E.T. I’m an ’80s fan and so is Finn, so when we got the job we were like, ‘Oh my God, we know what to do.’”
She Is Partially Deaf
You read that right—Millie Bobby is deaf in one ear. This was a condition that she was born with, which worsened into a hearing loss over time.
One of her other passions is singing, so one could see how not being able to hear yourself presents its own unique set of challenges for a vocalist.
But in an interview with
Variety, Millie Bobby explains that just is not the case. “I just started to sing, and if I sound bad I don’t care, because I’m just doing what I love,” she says. “You don’t have to be good at singing. You don’t have to be good at dancing or acting. If you like to do it, if you genuinely enjoy doing it, then do it. No one should stop you.”
Millie Can Rap
We all know that Millie Bobby Brown is crazy talented at acting but she can rap, too! She has appeared on
The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon twice now, and rapped her little heart out during the process.
On her first appearance, Millie Bobby rapped a verse of Nicki Minaj’s “Monster”. Much to the surprise of the audience, she busted out the lyrics like she had written them herself.
During her second appearance, Millie Bobby rapped a season one recap of
Stranger Things which can only be described as epic. The entire storyline is twisted into rhyming lines that are not only hilarious but factual.
Who knows what Millie Bobby Brown is going to conquer next…Olympic swimming? Politics? Competitive eating? Whatever it is, it is going to be fantastic.
She's A Gym Rat
Millie Bobby Brown has an exhausting schedule with her acting so she is home-schooled. To keep both her mind and body active, Millie Bobby spends a lot of her time in various gyms.
We know that she is hardcore because she has not been shy in uploading videos of herself doing vigorous exercising via Instagram.
Millie Bobby kick-boxes like a pro, throwing punches left and right. She recently posted a video of herself nailing a punching bag with hard, continuous blows that make the viewer grimace while also smile. I have to say—when you watch these videos you are going to be impressed. Most thirteen-year-olds are playing video games in their spare time, or messing around their phone. Millie Bobby isn’t; she is busy training to kick all of our butts.
Her Best Friend Is Maddie Ziegler
If you follow entertainment news than the name Maddie Ziegler may ring a bell for you. Maddie appeared on the infamous Lifetime show
Dance Moms, but more recently she has obtained fame for music video appearances. (Remember that little girl dressed all in the nude leotard from Sia’s
Chandelier video? That was Maddie. According to
Wikipedia she has also been in five other of Sia’s videos.)
Anywho, Ziegler explained to
People that Millie Bobby had come to visit the set of
So You Think You Can Dance, in which Maddie was appearing as a judge. Being around the same age, the two girls began to chat and things went from there.
"Then we just kept talking and became best friends," Ziegler quipped.
Aw, they are such a cute pair!
Acting Came Naturally To Her
We all kind of want to hear that people who are amazing at something really hard to work at it. It makes us feel better about ourselves and our lack thereof. But that is not the case with Millie Bobby and acting—in fact it is anything but.
In an interview with
Variety Millie explained, “It was like a bug,” she says. “I know this sounds crazy, but once I find something I want to do, nobody’s stopping me. If I don’t know how to sew, and I really had that passion to sew, that’s it, I’m going to sew. That’s also with acting. So here I am.”
During the same interview, she went as far as to say that acting “is like breathing to me.”
Dang, girl. You are passionate!
