Being a parent is not easy and being a parent in the celebrity spotlight is no walk in the park, either. That’s because all of their parenting highlights and lowlights are documented for the world to see, whether it’s through social media or paparazzi pics and videos. One wrong move, and mommy shamers every where are quick to point out your flaws and everything that you are doing wrong with your child. It really doesn’t matter how hard the parent tries to do her or his best – critics will always have something to say about their parenting methods.
With that being said though, it hasn’t stopped celebrity moms from sharing many behind-the-scenes photos from their personal lives with their fans on social media. And it certainly hasn’t stopped critics and commentators from sharing their thoughts on what these moms are doing right and wrong.
At this point it’s safe to say that everyone has an opinion, and especially while sitting behind a computer screen. From serving chocolate and sugar-filled treats for breakfast to enjoying a mom’s night out after giving birth, here are 15 of the most hypocritical things celebrity moms get shamed for on a daily basis!
15 Hilary Duff - Drop Off Outfit
Hilary Duff shared a photo of her in what some people thought was a questionable outfit before dropping off her son Luca to school. She was mismatched, her hair was messy and she had shades on to cover the fact that she wasn’t wearing any makeup. It was supposed to be fun, but it received a ton of hurtful comments.
Of course, that hasn’t stopped Hilary – or other celebrity moms – from sharing photos of their “mom life” online. Hilary didn’t respond to the criticism and simply carried on with her day-to-day business. And just like many other moms that are on the go everyday, she still dresses this way to drop off her son at school. If he doesn’t mind, then why should the internet care so much about it?
14 Beyonce - Me Time
Beyonce is by far one of the most recognizable names in the entertainment world and of course, one of the most popular moms in the celebrity world. Everyone loves to see new photos of her along with her children, Blue Ivy and her twins, Sir and Rumi. But some critics have shamed her for spending too much time on herself and not enough time with her kids. As a matter of fact, many have even pointed out that she went back to work too early after giving birth to Blue Ivy in 2012. If that weren’t enough, in 2014, a petition was started on Change.org after a user targeted the singer for not taking "proper care" of daughter Blue Ivy Carter's hair.
Beyonce’s response was a simple one: live your life to the fullest. She said, "You can have your child and you can still have fun and still be sexy and still have dreams and still live for yourself."
13 Megan Fox - Who's The Baby Daddy?
At this point Megan Fox is used to all of the criticism she gets from mommy shamers. It doesn’t matter what she says or does, people leave hurtful comments about her, her husband Brian Austin Green and her family. But the worst shaming was when she announced that she was pregnant only a few months after she and Brian announced that they were separating.
As you can imagine, the internet went nuts trying to figure out who Megan’s baby daddy was. "Who's the daddy?" "Why would she willingly get pregnant when she's separated from her husband?" Needless to say, Megan’s baby daddy has always been her husband, Brian Austin Green. The two managed to work out their problems after the birth of their third son. As a matter of fact, Brian recently admitted that he would love to add a baby daughter to their growing family soon.
12 JWoww - Pool Baby
Former ‘Jersey Shore’ star Jenni 'JWoww’ Farley received hurtful comments from fans and critics who thought she was putting her newborn son in danger by allowing him to go for a swim with the family. Even though 2-month-old Greyson was quite safe in daddy's arms, that wasn't good enough for some people.
In addition to being "too young" for a swim in a pool, others assumed she didn't put sunscreen on the infant, even though he was wearing a hat. Of course, JWoww was quick to point out that Greyson was both safe and that he had proper sun protection on him. If there’s one celebrity mom you don’t want to mess with, it’s definitely JWoww. She doesn’t have time for haters or critics that try to tell her what to do in her life.
11 Tess Holliday - Too Curvy For Pregnancy?
Plus-sized model Tess Holliday is used to all of the body shamers that leave mean and hurtful comments on her social media accounts on almost a daily basis. But if there’s one thing that she wasn’t prepared for, it was all the critics who mommy shamed her while she was pregnant with her second child. A lot of people said that she was either too large to be pregnant or because of her weight, too unhealthy.
Tess, meanwhile, was having none of it. She clapped back, "I'm not the first plus size woman in the public eye to have a baby [and] share it with the world, [and] I certainly won't be the last." She ended up giving birth and is the proud mom of two very healthy and happy children. At the end of the day, that’s all that really matters.
10 Kim Kardashian - Too Chunky
Kim Kardashian is a lot of things to a lot of different people. Fans and critics either love her or they loathe here. There’s no denying it. Yet one magazine publication thought it was a good idea to poke fun of her post-partum body after she gave birth to her daughter North West in 2013. Kim, of course, is used to the critics and she certainly didn’t let her body shamers get the best of her.
"I want [North] to be proud of who she is. I want her to be comfortable in her body. I don't want her to grow up in a world where she is made to feel less-than for embracing everything it means to be a woman," she wrote on her website. "I am a mother. I am a wife, a sister, a daughter, an entrepreneur and I am allowed to be sexy."
9 Ciara - Dangerous Great Wall Escapades
New mom Ciara was recently mommy shamed for not only traveling overseas with her newborn daughter, but riding down the Great Wall of China with her baby, too. She captioned her video with, “#GreatWallOfChina with my family. @DangeRussWilson Unreal!”
But her Instagram fans were not having it. Her followers on both Instagram and Twitter were quick to judge her for potentially jeopardizing her newborn’s safety. “Has your attention-seeking narcissism as a couple affected your parenting decisions too? This is ridiculous. She's 3 months old,” one person tweeted at the singer. “Isn’t this too dangerous for a newborn?” another asked. "It may be fun but doing this with an infant to your chest is not smart at all.”
For her part though, Ciara looked like she was totally in control in what will most likely be a great mommy and daughter moment to remember for years to come.
8 Charlize Theron - Meltdown Mode
Charlize Theron is just like most moms when it comes to dealing with her children’s very public and very embarrassing meltdowns: she quickly and swiftly puts a stop to the situation while remaining both calm and cool. But that wasn’t enough for critics who saw photos of her trying to control her young son’s meltdown at a park in Los Angeles. They said she was "dragging" him instead of what she probably was doing, which was calming him down and keeping him safe from photographers.
It goes without saying that Charlize was doing her best to deal with a frustrated child. It’s a situation that a lot of parents have had to deal with before. It happens to everyone, almost everywhere. But the accusations she received from critics were both hurtful and according to some critics, even dangerous.
7 Jessica Simpson - Duck Lips Too Soon
Jessica Simpson is one celebrity mother who loves to show off her children on social media. After all, her daughter and son are carbon copies of their beautiful mother. But some people couldn’t help but point out that some of the pictures of her daughter Max showed her in what appeared to be some very mature, suggestive poses. In many of her photos, she is posing like her mother and even pouting her “duck lips” for the camera. And for some of Jessica’s social media followers, they believe that the pose might be too mature for someone Max’s age.
"Jessica, shame on you for exposing your daughter instead of protecting her," while another mommy shamer said, "This woman needs to grow some brains and discernment. You don't exploit young children in bathing suits all over social media." Jessica is yet to respond to any of her critics.
6 Chrissy Tiegen - Mom's Night Out
Back in April of 2016, Chrissy Teigen's Twitter followers had a lot to say about what she was doing wrong as a first time mother -- including why she thought it was okay to go on a date night after giving birth. They said that instead of enjoying a date night with her husband, she should be at home taking care of her then newborn daughter, Luna. For Chrissy though, it didn’t seem like such a big deal as she was just having dinner with her husband John Legend.
But for anyone who knows Chrissy, she’s not one to hold back. She’ll respond to her critics whether they are ready for it or not. And thankfully, she has a great sense of humor about her Twitter criticism, too. She tweeted back, "I went to dinner. People are pissed. Good morning!"
5 Victoria Beckham - Kiss On The Lips
Victoria Beckham waited her entire life to finally have a daughter of her own. After giving birth to three boys, she was ecstatic to welcome her daughter Harper Seven back in 2011. And as you can imagine, the mommy and daughter duo are close, but according to some critics, maybe a little too close. Victoria was harshly criticized for uploading an Instagram photo of her kissing her daughter Harper on the lips.
A lot of critics said the kiss was disgusting and embarrassing. Thankfully, some fans chimed in, saying the photo was beautiful, and even posting photos of themselves kissing their children in response to the online shamers. What’s more, Victoria’s husband David Beckham even posted a photo of him kissing his daughter Harper on the lips one year after this controversy. It’s safe to say that the Beckhams are the most loving family in the celebrity world.
4 Kristin Cavallari - Skinny Kids
Kristin Cavallari is one of the healthiest moms in the celebrity world. She lives a very organic lifestyle and likes to make sure that her children live in a toxic-free environment. But when she uploaded a photo of her husband Jay Cutler and her children on Instagram, a lot of people were quick to point out that the young tots looked very slim. For some, they looked even too slim. "The poor child's bones are popping out," one wrote.
Cavallari, who openly promotes a healthy lifestyle, rolled her eyes at her critics. Of course, Kristin was quick to clap back at her critics with a good dose of sarcasm, too. "Yep, I starve my children. Just blocked the most people I’ve ever blocked in my entire life," the former reality star snapped back.
3 Kelly Clarkson - Too Much Chocolate
Kelly Clarkson decided to feed her daughter, River Rose, Nutella for the first time. What should have been a fun moment quickly turned horrible when the former ‘American Idol’ star’s followers shamed her for letting her 2-year-old daughter eat the sugary treat. "Yep. Start them out with cancer at an early age," one mommy shamer wrote under her Instagram video. "Giving food like this to a child is 'child abuse,'" another one said.
Thankfully, Kelly didn’t respond to her critics. And judging by her photo, River Rose looked like she enjoyed the treat a lot, too. As a mom, it's without a doubt that Kelly Clarkson knows what she's doing. If she served her children chocolate spreads and snacks like Nutella for breakfast, lunch and dinner it would be a problem. But seeing how Kelly introduced this to her daughter for the first time, it’s safe to say she’s doing everything in moderation.
2 Pink - Danger In The Kitchen
Earlier this year, chart topper Pink was mommy shamed after uploading a cute photo of her and her two children to Instagram. Here’s what she did wrong: she wore her baby son, Jameson, in a carrier while cooking dinner with her family. Just by looking at the photo you could tell that Pink was in control of the situation, but that wasn’t enough for some mommy shamers who were quick to point out that Jameson’s face was too close to the stove.
While no one seemed very concerned about how Pink had her son Jameson strapped to her chest, critics were more worried about him being so close to the stove. “Cute photo but please don’t cook wearing the baby. I’ve read some really horrific stories about terrible accidents that have occurred doing this,” wrote one person. In true Pink fashion, she dismissed her critics and carried on with her day.
1 Reese Witherspoon - Sweet Breakfast
There’s no doubt that there have been plenty of mothers out there who have served their children ready-to-go or even sweet treats for breakfast. When pressed for time, it’s easier to give your child a muffin or a cinnamon roll rather than nothing before they head off for school. And it looks like Reese Witherspoon does the same thing from time to time. She shared a photo of two cinnamon rolls she gave her son Tennessee on Instagram, much to the disappointment of her social media followers. "What a horrible thing to feed a growing child for breakfast," one commenter wrote.
Sure, cinnamon rolls (and other breakfast pastries and sweets) might not be an ideal breakfast to feed a child every single day, but it’s not like everyday moms have never done something like this before. Honestly, we've all done it.
