15 Of The Worst Pregnancy Tests Out There

There are many women who are trying to conceive a child, whether it is their first one or they have one or more than one already. These ladies are usually taking a lot of precautions when it comes to what they do and what they choose to put inside their bodies during this time.

This includes changes of their diets, as well as exercise routines. Typically these ladies are also ones who completely (or at least mostly) cut any alcohol, coffee, and tea out of their diets, as well as bad foods and other addicting habits like smoking, and certain medications if their doctors tell them to do so.

If you happen to be one of these women, you know how exciting it is, or will be in the future, to receive a positive pregnancy test. For those who are a part of the trying to conceive (also known as TTC) community, getting that second line on an HCG test means the world to them.

So when it comes to pregnancy tests, these women know all too well how disappointing it can be to get a negative result. However, it can be even more discouraging when you receive a false positive, especially on a brand of tests that usually has good reviews!

On the other hand, there are also women who use these tests to make sure that they have done all the things possible to avoid pregnancy, at least for the time being. If you are one of these ladies, it can be just as discouraging to receive a false positive in that case, because, as great pregnancy can be, it can also be scary if it is not something you and your partner have prepared yourselves for. In this article, I am going to discuss some of the worst pregnancy tests on the market, and yes, some of the brands I will mention might shock you!

15 One Step Ultra Early 10miu Tests

First, let me start off by saying these are fine to use if you have a strong addiction to peeing on a stick, as many of us in the trying to conceive community do. They can be ordered in bulk, and they are cost effective. They can be ordered in boxes of 50 from Amazon.

Now, let me tell you why these are not as good as they say they are, at least for some of us. Keep in mind that they advertise their ability to detect the pregnancy hormone, which is known as Human Chrionic Gonodotropin (also known as HCG), at 10 miu.

This means that they should be able to detect the hormone in your urine much earlier than other tests, because most seem to detect it at 25 miu. But, that is not always the case.

For some people, these tests seem to take forever to show a positive. In fact, I have a little bit of experience with them myself. During my first pregnancy, I felt all of the symptoms, and I just knew I was pregnant. However, these kept telling me otherwise.

One day, I was sick and wanted to take some medication on the way home from work, so I ran in a store and bought some medication and a different brand of pregnancy test because I wanted to make sure I was not pregnant before taking the medication. You can imagine my surprise when I found out I was expecting a child after these tests repeatedly told me I was not. They did not show a positive until a few days later.

14 Super Early 10 miu pregnancy tests

You may or may not have heard of this one. Much like the ones I mentioned above, these are good for you if you absolutely need to have some tests, and you do not have others available currently.

These also come in bundles, and they are very cheap. You can tell the difference between these and the others I have mentioned because they arrive in individual, bright pink packaging.

Being someone who has much experience with different brands of tests, I know that many of us are told to go for the tests with pink dye, which is what might make you choose these when trying to pick out the best tests for the best price.

But, these, too, are not quite what they advertise. Not only do they seem to have some trouble detecting HCG as they should, but they are also very tiny strips, which can make the results hard to read, especially for those with visual impairments.

Additionally, these and many other items you order in the mail can get damaged pretty badly in the process of shipping and handling. While that may not hurt other items seriously, it is not something you want to happen to items as important and sensitive as a pregnancy test, because it can leave digs and scratches, which can make the results harder to read and sometimes it can make the test malfunction completely. I would like to add that these are also made by One Step, the same company who makes the first test I mentioned on this list.

13 First Response pregnancy tests

This brand is one that some of you might be shocked to see on this list, because, as I mentioned before, many of us are always informed by others that pink dye tests are the best to go with when trying to accurately detect a pregnancy, or just to make sure we are not pregnant. But, the more recent brand of First Response pregnancy tests (I am talking about the curved kind, not the digital) does have some negative reviews attached to it.

While this brand is known to many as a great pregnancy test, it does have some downfalls. Perhaps the worst of its negative reviews involves what some would call false positives, or evaporation lines that arrive within the first ten minutes after taking the test.

If you are not sure what an evaporation line is, it is when your urine evaporates from the test strip. This happens over time, and it can cause a faint line to appear where a positive test line would normally be on the testing strip. This is why it is best to discard a home pregnancy test after the ten minute time window is up.

12 First Signal One Step pregnancy test

While these have a similar name to the first two tests I mentioned on here, they are not made by the same company. These tests can be bought at Walmart or online.

I would like to first start off by naming a few good things about it. This is not a test you have to order in the mail, because many of us have a store nearby that sells it. Additionally, while you can only get one per box, they are less than a dollar a box. In fact, they are only 88 cents per test, so these are ones that you can stock up on.

But before you decide to run and get some at your nearest Walmart, or online, there are some issues with the test that must be considered, After all, that is why I am talking about it on this list.

Many of us tend to discard the test after the first few minutes if the result is negative. For this certain kind of pregnancy test, it seems as though throwing it away so soon might be a mistake because it can take a while to show a positive result, which might even make some women think they are looking at an evaporation line, when it is in fact a positive.

Also, a lot of women who are pregnant like to use home pregnancy tests to watch the lines get darker so that they can be reassured that everything is progressing as it should with their pregnancies. These tests tend to have faint lines much of the time, so using these for that purpose may not be a good idea for some. Add to that the fact that they are cheap and can be prone to actual evaps and false positives.

11 Accu-Clear pregnancy tests

As with some of the other tests on this list, these are somewhat cheap. Also, let me start this off by saying that these are not the worst that your money can buy.

There are a few good things about them, just like there are with any other tests on the market. They have a wide test result window, and these are bigger than the first two I discussed earlier on. This alone can make it a more likable test than some others because it makes it easier to read the results.

However, they do tend to have a deeper result window than some, which can cause some women to see a shadow and think that they might be looking at a possible positive test result. Also, many of those who are trying to get pregnant will likely prefer to test before their period is due.

In this case, using this test is not a good idea. If you want to test early, go for a different brand, as this is not likely to give you an accurate positive result until at least the day before your period.

10 Clearblue Easy test

When taking a pregnancy test, some of us who are new to using urine tests may question whether or not a positive result is really positive if the second line (assuming that the person testing is not using a digital test) is very faint.

Most of the time, others who have done it before will tell you that a line is a line, no matter how faint or bold. However, that is not always true, especially when it comes to certain tests that use blue dye instead of red or pink.

This might make you think that I am talking about evaporation lines, but, believe it or not, there are some tests that may give women a big, bold, colorful positive result, yet still be wrong. One of the tests on the market that is known for doing exactly this is Clearblue Easy Digital.

These tests are not hard to use, and they are fairly inexpensive. But if this is one you choose to test with, have a backup test of a different brand in order to confirm the result.

9 Easy at Home Pregnancy Urine Test Strips

For those of us who are actively trying to conceive a child, buying tests on the internet can seem like a great idea for multiple reasons. Some of these include getting to buy them in bulk (I’m talking about anywhere between 25 to 50 tests, which is a lot), not spending as much money on these as we do on tests bought in stores, as well as the fact that it is easier to keep a large stock of them stored away somewhere until we feel we might need them.

But, something to remember when buying cheap pregnancy tests is that old phrase “you get what you pay for.” This means that if you spent a small amount of money on them, they might be less reliable than other tests.

That is not always the case, but it is for some people who have used the next test I am about to talk about. According to some reviews on Amazon, Easy at Home Pregnancy Test Strips often give some pretty convincing test lines that later turned out to be evaporation lines. Additionally, others gave very faint, hard to read lines while other test brands gave answers that were much easier.

8 Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test with Smart Countdown

Whether or not you and your spouse are trying to conceive a baby, or plan to do so in the future, it is nice to have a bold, clear, easy to read result on your pregnancy test. As many of us know, there is nothing more clear and reassuring (or disappointing, depending on the answer) than to see words that inform you whether or not you are expecting a little addition to your family soon.

It is because of this reason that many couples choose to use digital pregnancy tests. The next test I am going to discuss on this list is the Clearblue Digital Test. More specifically, it is the one with the smart countdown that is displayed on the screen before showing the final result.

Supposedly, these tests are made to detect HCG at 25 miu, which is probably true most of the time. These tests are said to be most accurate on the day of or after your missed period, however, it seems that for some people (myself included), this is not true.

I, as well as some other women who have used this test, did not receive a positive result when we should have if you go by what the package says. These are not terrible tests because of malfunctions or evaporation lines (you would not get one of these on a digital test screen), but because some of them require a slightly higher level of the pregnancy hormone than they advertise.

7 New Choice pregnancy tests

As with some of the others mentioned on this list, there are many more pregnancy tests that women tend to buy more than other brands because they are cheaper in price. But again, keep in mind that a cheaper price might also mean cheaper quality when it comes to what the product is made from and how accurate it really is.

The next test I am about to mention does have some benefits. It is not hard to read the test result when done properly, and it is cheap, which can allow users to buy them frequently, or buy a bunch of them at once.

However, with that being said, there are some reasons why you might want to second guess using these tests. New Choice pregnancy tests, which are available online as well as in many dollar stores, have many mixed reviews.

Some women like them. Despite that fact, others say that these tests seem to be bad when it comes to those dreaded evaporation lines, while others say that they are not good for early testing (meaning that you should not use them before your expected period because they might give you an inaccurate result).

6 Quickvue pregnancy test

Some of the test brands on this list are quite well known and therefore already have a good or bad reputation. Others are not as known, and therefore when we buy them, there are not many reviews we can read to see how accurate they may or may not be.

The next pregnancy test on this list is definitely one of the least talked about tests. That is precisely why I would like to mention it here.

Quickvue pregnancy test is a simple, regular at home HCG test. It is not a digital one, and it is another test similar to First Response in the way that it either shows one line if the result is negative, or two lines if the result turns out to be positive.

Though at this point there have not been any major flaws reported about this test, the reason it has landed a spot here is because it is not good for testing early, as in using it before your missed period. In fact, the instruction paper says that it is 99% accurate on the day of your missed period, or after that date has passed. Therefore, do not expect to see a completely accurate result before that time if you choose to use this test.

5 ClinicalGuard HCG Pregnancy Test Strips

Just like some of the others I have discussed on here, there are tons of pregnancy tests on the market that are super cheap and can be bought online instead of in stores. However, if you choose to buy these, do so with caution and always have a different brand of test in mind as well so that you may confirm any test results you get from these brands, as some of them are not always known for being correct.

The plus to these tests is that you can buy them in bulk. They come in packs of 5, 20, 25, and 50 tests per box, and they are inexpensive considering the amount that users receive in the mail.

However, the quality of these tests seem to be somewhat low. Some of the problems others have reported when using this brand is that it takes a while longer to receive a positive result than it does with other brands that are made with higher quality.

4 Clearblue Advanced Pregnancy Test with Weeks Estimator

Some of the tests on this list are usually accurate if they are used correctly, and the person who is testing does not look at them outside of the usual ten minute time frame. Others simply malfunction, and some brands even have many tests that give inaccurate results, depending on when you use them.

The next test I am about to discuss falls into that last category. Let me start off by saying that these are not horrible tests to use, and often can give accurate test results.

But the reason they have landed a spot on this article is because some women tend to use them to see how far along their pregnancy is, and to make sure it is progressing as it should.

This is because this particular type of test not only displays a digital read out of whether or not you are pregnant, but it also estimates how many weeks it has been since the person who is testing ovulated. However, that part of these tests are not always right for everyone.

Each woman and every pregnancy is different, so some women may have more or less of the pregnancy hormone in her system than another woman who is just as far along. Because of this, some women may get a result that says “2-3 weeks” while others who are just as far into their pregnancy may receive the “3+ weeks” or “1-2 weeks” result. This test is not the worst to use, but it is not good for those trying to keep track of their HCG levels.

3 TrueStick Early Detection Pregnancy Test Strips

Like the other tests on this list, there are some benefits to this one. Unfortunately, one of those benefits does not seem to be early detection of pregnancy.

In fact, the next test I am about to discuss in this article does not seem to be able to detect the pregnancy hormone in urine even after the woman who is testing has missed her period. Of course, that is not the case for everyone, but it does seem that these tests have very poor reviews.

TrueStick Early Detection Pregnancy Test Strips are cheap tests that are available online. You can purchase them in bulk, like many of the other tests I have talked about on this list.

However, what seems to be a major downfall when it comes to using these tests is that they are not always good for testing before you miss your period. Some women had to wait a few days after their missed periods to be able to get even the faintest line on these tests, all the while having positives on other brands.

2 Wondfo pregnancy test strips

Some of the test brands on this list are usually good tests, yet they have had some bad batches. Others are just quite well known to not be the most reliable tests on the market.

The next pregnancy test that has landed a spot on this list of the worst tests falls into the first category. This may surprise some of you, as I have heard many good things about these tests in the past, but Wondfo pregnancy test strips are not always the best cheap internet test your money can buy.

Though these appear to be fairly good tests for the most part, users should use them with caution because they are known to have some bad batches.

Some women have reported getting all negatives from an entire package they ordered in the mail. Others have said that while they received blazing positives with other test brands, these gave them super faint lines that did not seem to be getting any darker over time, which, as some of us know, can cause some unneeded worry and stress.

1 Equate Early Result Pregnancy Test

Many of the brands on here are well known, very popular pregnancy tests. Others are much less talked about, yet still available to purchase either online or in some stores.

The last test I would like to discuss on this list is one that many of us have seen. It is the cheaper Walmart brand of First Response.

Like the other tests, these have their advantages. These tests are easy to use, and they are somewhat cheap compared to the tests they are supposed to be like.

However, it appears that these are not the best tests to use if you are looking for the most accurate test results. Many women who have chosen to buy this test have been given false positives, which can be very heartbreaking if you are trying to get pregnant. It can also be very misleading if you are trying to avoid pregnancy.

All of the tests on this list have their advantages, as well as their downfalls. If you choose to use any of these brands, make sure you have a backup test to confirm the results, and do it at the best time in order to be sure that you get the correct answer.
