When someone is pregnant it's a big deal, and not just for mom-to-be. Everyone has opinions on how pregnant women should act, what they should eat and even what air they should breathe.

And, while pregnant celebrities definitely attract more than their share of attention, negative or positive, the rest of us certainly aren't immune to public judging.

New moms have always been subjected to unwanted advice. I bet back in the cave days, they got an earful about which berries to eat and what rocks to sit upon to keep the fetus healthy. But now...we have the internet.

A woman posts a photo of her growing belly, and there are comments: she's too big, too small, working out too hard, eating too much, not eating enough. God forbid she post a photo of herself anywhere near a glass of wine. There's a photo of my mother water skiing while eight months pregnant with me. It's a good thing there was no internet back then.

Sometimes it ends with a few unwelcome opinions. But sometimes, people are so outraged at what a woman's doing with her own body, they share and share again. Before you know it, the whole internet is weighing in and things go viral.

15 Kim Kardashian's Morning Sickness Pill

Back in 2015, Kim Kardashian posted a photo on Instagram, for her millions of followers, showing her holding the drug, Diclegis, used to treat severe morning sickness. Kim claimed it was the miracle cure for her. Following her post, interest in the drug skyrocketed.

The FDA was not impressed. They issued a statement calling the post misleading and irresponsible, because Kim didn't explain the side effects that can occur with Diclegis. She subsequently apologized and took down the post. But it wasn't over.

She posted about it again in 2017, this time linking to the FDA site with side effect information. Kim was likely just trying to help fellow morning-sickness sufferers, but the internet did NOT let it go. Google it, and you'll be overwhelmed by the number of posts dedicated to the subject.

14 Pregnant Teen Barred From Graduation

Maddi Runkles was a star student at Heritage Academy, a small private Christian school. She had a 4.0 average, played on the soccer team and was president of the student council. Then, she got pregnant. The academy barred her from "walking" at graduation and removed her from her student council position.

Students for Life got involved, insisting Maddi shouldn't be punished for deciding, courageously, to keep the baby. Others insisted that, based on the contract she signed to attend the school, she had broken faith and should be held accountable.

There are pages and pages of internet articles, both supporting and shaming Maddi. So now, not only is she a pregnant teenager, she's possibly the most public pregnant teenager of all time. Does anyone want to take her place? ('Didn't think so.)

13 Beyoncé's Pregnancy Shoot

Renée Cramer declared that Beyoncé "broke the internet" with the carefully curated images she posted on Instagram while pregnant with her twins. Renée says, "When a celebrity announces she’s pregnant, magazine sales go through the roof, [as do] social-media clicks. People care. They care for lots of different reasons."

In fact, Beyoncé's high-art photo of her with bare baby belly, atop a car, was the most-liked photo on Instagram. Why did it go so absolutely viral? Maybe because it wasn't some blurry snapshot from the paparazzi but a purposeful and sanctioned photo posted by Beyoncé herself. Maybe because it was beautiful and different and possibly a little shocking.

Renée says, "[Beyoncé’s] image of an empowered black woman embracing her own autonomy as a reproducing human, I think that resonates with people."

12 "Where's The Baby?"

When fitness model Sarah Stage posted her nine-month bump on Instagram in 2015, the backlash was immediate. Comments were not positive. "You should go to the doctor," and "This is f&^*ing weird! Where the hell is the baby?" were some of them. Indeed, Sarah's baby bump was a lot smaller than most and hiding behind defined abs.

Her first child weighed nine pounds, but that didn't stop haters from the exact same sentiments with her second pregnancy. This time, she posted a 6-month belly photo, which garnered over 3,000 comments, some of which accused her of lying about being pregnant.

Sarah responded with, "I'm at a place in my life where happiness, peace and joy are my priority. Especially being #6monthspregnant, there's no room for any negativity so please take it elsewhere."

11 Jill Duggar Hiking In Her Third Trimester

Jill Duggar is no stranger to social media criticism, having been judged for her active lifestyle during both of her pregnancies. Apparently, she's simply not the lounge-around type, but fans have assumed she's somehow being coerced into hard work.

After spending much of her second pregnancy in El Salvador, doing missionary work, Jill and husband Derick returned to their home in Arkansas. But Jill still didn't want to take it easy.

She posted a gorgeous photo on Instagram of herself and Derick hiking. It seemed perfectly innocent, but fans went nuts. Said one, "Hunny you need to be resting and preparing for delivery." Several admirers presumptuously blamed Derick for not letting Jill rest. Suffice it to say, everyone's got an opinion, and many don't hesitate to express it on the internet.

10 Retailer Discovers Teen's Pregnancy Before Dad

One day, in 2012, an angry man stomped into Target and lambasted the manager for sending his teenage daughter coupons for baby clothes. When the manager later called the man to apologize, the abashed father had his own apology to issue. His daughter was pregnant.

It turns out Target can analyze purchasing patterns and predict when a woman is pregnant, so they can take advantage of a high-spending time of life.

When the public became aware of what Target was doing, there was a media and public relations storm. People were outraged and felt their personal information was being violated, though Target had done nothing illegal, per se.

The fiasco spawned internet chatter about everything from keeping your personal information safe to how to avoid getting outed by a reporter like Target did.

9 Trainer's Belly Is Too Small

Chontel Duncan is a HIIT trainer and body builder from Australia. When she posted a photo comparing her baby bump to a client's, she got more than she bargained for.

The post was intended to highlight how differently each mom carries. "I thought it d be very obvious that we would carry differently,” Chontel said. “I’m clearly extremely tall and hold a lot more muscle mass. Plus it was Nat's third pregnancy. It’s my first.”

The Instagram post got 10,000 likes and 2,500 comments, many negative. In response Chontel said, "you...haven't pre-screened me, haven't been to any of my appointments...you've had a baby...but that's not making you a doctor...I'm 100% doing what's safe for my baby & my body, what works for me may not work for the next pregnant lady."

8 "My Brother's Pregnancy" Goes Viral

When Jessi Hempel wrote an article for Time about her brother, who is transgendered, suspending hormone treatment, so he could get pregnant and give birth, the internet went berserk.

Jessi's article was entitled, My Brother's Pregnancy and the Making of a New American Family. It was an honest, insightful and encouraging look at an unorthodox family who bravely shared their feelings, but many didn't see it that way.

While some people lauded the beauty and bravery of both Jessi and her brother, other's were extremely offended. Online fighting and name-calling ensued, once again proving that people are much more comfortable "yelling" at each other from a computer than in person. And they are more quick to judge, when that person is a photo on a screen, instead standing in front of them.

7 Irina Shayk's Bikini Bod Post

A handful of weeks after giving birth to her first child, Irina Shayk posted a photo of herself lounging on a big, inflatable lip floaty in a bikini. The photo got 332.8K likes and garnered 1,879 comments.

Some commenters praised her for her quick return to her pre-baby body (as if it ever really goes back.) Others wondered why she was posting a sexy bikini photo and not one of her new baby.

Irina looks absolutely fab, but note the arms-up-over-the-head pose pulls everything to its flattest. Also note the shadow over the center of her belly, where there is likely still a tiny bulge. This is not to be critical of her AT ALL. Anyone who wants to rock a bikini poolside after having a baby, I say "go for it!" Just realize, all is not what it seems.

6 The Teen Pregnancy Barbie

For this one, we go all the way back to 1982. There was no internet back then, but if there had been...lordy.

Mattel originally developed Barbie's gal-pal, Midge, as a less-sexualized, teen-looking version of Barbie herself. Then, in '82, some marketing genius decided a pregnant Midge, complete with removable fetus Nikki, was going to be the next big thing.

Consumers responded with the 80's version of viral internet posts: they called and wrote (yes, actual snail mail) to Mattel, complaining the doll promoted teen pregnancy. Some were also incensed Midge didn't come wearing a wedding ring and was packaged without Alan, Nikki's supposed father.

There are almost 35,000 Google hits on the subject of pregnant Barbie, so, despite being old news, the internet is still fascinated.

5 Emily Skye's Pregnancy Workouts

In June, 2017, Emily Skye posted her workout routine on Instagram, a few days after announcing her pregnancy. And suddenly, she was center stage for a hot, internet debate over whether or not women should workout while pregnant. (Many of her followers were less than enthusiastic about the idea.)

In effect, what Emily got for sharing her pregnancy workout with others was a truck-load of unsolicited opinions telling her she was endangering her baby, even though she clearly stated that her doctor had approved all of her exercise moves.

According to just about every ob/gyn on the planet, exercising while pregnant can be as healthy for a pregnant woman as a non-pregnant one, as long as she consults with her doctor on her individual circumstances and listens to her own body.

4 UPS Fired A Woman For Being Pregnant

In 2006, Peggy Young was working for UPS as a pick up and delivery driver. When she became pregnant and doctor's orders said she shouldn't lift over 20 pounds, UPS fired her, because drivers are supposed to be able to lift packages up to 70 pounds. They did this even though they routinely accommodated drivers with injuries or disabilities resulting in similar weight restrictions.

The U.S. Supreme Court didn't rule on it until 2015, but they found in favor of Peggy Young, in a landmark case, making it next to impossible for an employer to fire a pregnant woman for requiring on-the-job assistance.

In the interim nine years between the incident and the ruling, the internet gurus analyzed it from all angles, to the tune of 49,100,000 posted articles on the subject.

3 Insulting a Pregnant TV Anchor

Kristen Nicole, award-winning anchor for "Good Day Chicago," did the show one morning in a striking blue dress -- one she wears on-air about once a month, she says. Only this time, she was eight months pregnant.

Apparently, some viewers were paying more attention to Kristen's clothes than her newscast, because she received several emails to the tune of...

"When will you start wearing dresses fit for pregnancy?" and "Stop wearing tight dresses -- they don't do you any favors." One even accused her of wearing a fake baby bump to boost ratings.

To the haters, Kristen responded, "Use your time better. Pay someone a compliment. Do a good deed." Many on Facebook applauded her comeback and supported her stance. The post received 2.5K likes, 1.2K comments and 115 shares.

2 April The Giraffe's YouTube Feed

If anyone didn't hear about April, the giraffe at the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York and her looooong wait to give birth, they were living under a rock with no internet access and noise-cancelling headphones glued to their ears.

Millions of people around the world tuned in, anxiously awaiting any signs of labor. April herself, seemed pretty calm.

The YouTube feed even sparked some controversy, when some people claimed that watching a giraffe go into labor was "too sexual," though that turned out to be a tactic by animal rights activists who disagree with keeping animals in captivity. (Would YOU want the whole world watching you give birth??)

Eventually, the feed was sponsored by Toys R Us, and the park's GoFundMe page, to support the costs of April's care, raised over $100,000.

1 Cross-Fitter Lifting While Pregnant

Lea-Ann Ellison posted a photo of herself doing overhead squats, almost nine months pregnant, on Facebook. She had no idea she'd get the response she did.

The post was shared 451 times in just two hours, and some of the comments were less than positive. On poster lambasted her with, "If anything happens to your baby due to your stupidity, I hope you’ll be able to handle your guilt. Pregnancy is NOT the time to be taking stupid risks.”

Obstetrician Brittany Stofko says it's usually safe for women who exercised pre-pregnancy to continue to do so while pregnant. At the time of her post, Lea-Ann had been doing CrossFit for two-and-a-half years.

There were other, more supportive comments as well. Many fellow CrossFitters said they'd kept up their workouts while pregnant, as well.
