Finding out that you are pregnant should be the most exciting time of your life. However, couples that desperately want kids but can not seem to have them simply feel pain when they think about the future life they so desperately want. Being a mom is the greatest gift anyone could give you. Holding your baby for the first time is something nobody could ever fully explain. However, for some couples who feel it may never happen to them, they will go to extreme measures to try.

This was the case with Jon and Kate Gosselin. They got married and wanted to start their family. However, due to Kate, they knew it would be a struggle. Once they conceived six babies at once, the reality television cameras started to roll.

The same thing happened the Danielle and Adam Busby. They married young and traveled the world together, but they always knew they wanted to have kids. After a year of it not working out, they turned to fertility treatments as well, which eventually led to the conception of the only all-girl quintuplets in the country.

Both of these families got their start on reality television because of their fertility struggles and sudden expansion of their family. However, now that ‘Jon and Kate Plus 8’ have been off of the air for a while, there is some serious speculation that ‘Outdaughtered’ may be taking over the scene. There are quite a few reasons to assume this transition, given the similarities with both of their shows, but here are just 15 examples.

15 Fans Love/Hate Them

‘Jon and Kate Plus 8’ gained a huge following mostly because their show made for great television. People love drama, and constant fighting, and complete chaos. That is what Jon and Kate brought to the table with their eight kids. However, people also love to sit down and watch happy stories and loving families. Jon and Kate didn’t last, but there is a good chance that the Busby’s reality show will, simply because people love them.

Fans liked watching Jon and Kate because they were dramatic, but fans enjoy watching ‘Outdaughtered’ because they actually care about Adam and Danielle and their big family. They can feel the love that their crazy family created, and the fans enjoy feeling apart of it. ‘Outdaughtered’ is a recipe for success and so far, it looks like it will not only be the next ‘Jon and Kate Plus 8,’ but far better than it ever was.

14 Fans Are Worried About Divorce

Watching ‘Jon and Kate Plus 8’ and then switching over to watch ‘Outdaughtered’ may make the two shows appear extremely similar. They are both about a young couple struggling with fertility and hoping to get pregnant. They both wind up with a crazy number of kids and then must navigate their new crazy life. When fans witnessed Jon and Kate’s very nasty divorce and custody battle, it is clear why they would worry about the same happening to the Busby family.

Nobody wants to go through a divorce, especially if you have young children with your spouse. However, Kate stated, “I knew the divorce rate for parents of multiples, especially higher-order multiples, is so high. I'd done the math.”

Clearly, Jon and Kate grew apart and chose divorce, but some fans are not so quick to assume this same fate on the Busbys. They believe that their relationship is more loving and sacrificial, so they are still hopeful that the busby family will remain intact through the birth of multiples.

13 Each Family’s Life Is Equally Stressful

The Busbys and the Gosselins both have their fair share of stress in their lives. When the Busbys first brought their quintuplets home, they were required to get up every two hours and feed all their babies. Staying on a strict feeding schedule was important for their daily routine, but it was definitely grueling. Most nights, Danielle and Adam would be lucky to get just a few hours of uninterrupted sleep. It’s hard to explain how they did it, but luckily they had a lot of wonderful help from family and friends.

Jon and Kate’s life became way more stressful when they decided to get a divorce. Not only did they have eight kids to take care of, but now they had to do it all by themselves. They worked out a unique custody agreement where the kids would stay in the family home, and each parent would come and go when it was their turn with them. This gave the kids stability but made Jon and Kate’s life much more stressful.

12 Kids Are A Financial Burden

Spending two thousand dollars on formula every single month, having a garage full of diapers like a warehouse, and medical bills for millions of dollars that will never go away would all definitely fall under the category of a financial burden. Most parents would vouch for the fact that raising a single child is extremely expensive. Calculating in all of the food they eat, toys they play with, clothes they wear, and extracurricular activities, really adds up.

When you multiply all those expenses by either six or eight, you can imagine the amount of money these families would need to make just to stay afloat. Luckily, with the help of reality shows, they can supplement their income slightly. We are also in the age of social media, and the bigger the following, the more money you make. These alternative ways of making income can really help out big families who have so many expenses.

11 Both Families Struggled With Fertility

There is nothing worse than wanting children and not being able to get pregnant. When it comes to Kate Gosselin, she was well aware of her condition that prevented her from getting pregnant. She had polycystic ovary syndrome which prevented her from getting pregnant naturally. However, just like the Busbys, fertility treatments worked on her.

Adam and Danielle always dreamed of having kids. However, they couldn’t figure out why they weren’t getting pregnant. Nothing appeared to be immediately wrong with either of them, however, they eventually decided to go the route of intrauterine insemination to conceive their children. Both Kate and Danielle felt like the first successful round of fertility was exactly what they wanted. Kate gave birth to twins which is totally normal, and Danielle had one beautiful daughter. Neither family was complete after just one pregnancy though, so they both knew they needed to try the fertility treatments again.

10 Neither Couple Predicted Such A Big Family

What started out as an extremely successful process turned into a crazy mess. Both Jon and Kate, as well as Adam and Danielle, wanted more than just one or two kids. Three sounded like the magic number for both of these families, however, the second successful round of fertility took an unexpected turn for both of these family’s lives.

Neither the Gosselins nor the Busbys expected to expand their family so rapidly. Kate became pregnant with six children at once. Three boys and three girls. Danielle Busby only conceived four at first, since only four eggs had originally released. However, by their next visit to the doctor, one of those four eggs had split into identical twins, which meant Danielle was now carrying five babies! And every single one of them was a girl. Yikes!

These two families who were planning on adding one, maybe two children to the mix, were now dealing with the fact that their lives would change forever.

9 Kate And Danielle Both Had High-Risk C-Sections

With any set of multiples during a pregnancy, the delivery process becomes more complicated. Even with twins, doctors try to stay away from natural births unless it is a very low-risk pregnancy. C-sections seem to be the safer route for the mother and the babies when there are more lives at risk. However, delivering an extremely high number of multiples creates an even bigger set of challenges for the doctors.

Not only do the doctors need to practice exactly how the delivery process will go, but the C-section needs to be scheduled for earlier than most pregnancies. When there are so many babies growing inside of one stomach, there is only so much room before the babies start getting too squished. Letting them grow too long is dangerous to the mother as well. However, since multiple births, because each baby to be delivered early, there has to be a special person caring for each individual baby.

8 They Lived In The NICU For Months

Danielle Busby gave birth to her quintuplets at only 28 weeks, while Kate Gosselin gave birth to her six babies just shy of 30 weeks gestation. Both moms were early for a normal pregnancy, which required their babies to stay in the NICU for varying amounts of time. Danielle had wanted to reach 30 weeks, but her doctor stressed the importance of the 28-week mark as vital, and only days after reaching that mark, it was time for her to deliver.

On the Busby’s TLC show ‘Outdaughtered,’ Danielle Busby spoke about her time and experience at the NICU. She explained the how unbelievably difficult it was not being able to hold her babies after they were born. However, she also stated that there was no way she could have made it through this journey without the help of the NICU staff. Not only did they save her babies’ lives, but they made her time there special.

7 They Were Both Lucky With The Health Of Their Children

Although Jon Gosselin told Oprah on an episode of ‘Where Are They Now’ that his children had development problems as a result of their time on reality television, their problems did not appear to come from their premature birth. The Gosselin family was extremely lucky to have six healthy babies at once, and Kate Gosselin even disagrees about Jon’s “developmental problems” statement.

As for Danielle and Adam Busby, there were quite a few scares with their five little girls. Riley suffered a collapsed lung while in the NICU, and one of their identical twins got an infection and had to be quarantined. However, once the quints were sent home with mom and dad, the girl with the lasting issues was Hazel. The Busbys say that Hazel was their squished baby, which caused her to need glasses at a young age as well as an eye surgery to correct some issues. However, with all of the things that could have gone wrong, their babies are unbelievably healthy.

6 Both Families Are Reality TV Gold

TLC is constantly looking for more reality shows to put on their network. ‘Jon and Kate Plus 8’ was a huge success, but after the couple’s divorce things got more complicated. The network created a spinoff show called ‘Kate Plus 8’ which followed Kate as a single mom navigating eight kids, and Jon was featured less in the show. However, Jon got his lawyers involved and the show eventually ended. The drama was reality tv gold, but ‘Outdaughtered’ is not far behind.

With the only set of all girl quintuplets in the country, the Busby family was offered a reality show almost immediately. Their pregnancy and birth were filmed, and now their lives are being documented as they struggle to navigate their new life with half a dozen girls. Viewers love watching all of their triumphs and struggles, and there will most likely be a lot more episodes to come.

5 Both Women Are Stay At Home Moms

When it feels like a daycare has exploded in your living room, it would be nearly impossible for both mom and dad to go back to work. Kate has said that filming her reality television show was her job, but being a mom always came first. The show simply provided her with a paycheck, since raising eight kids is understandably expensive. It always seemed like Kate wanted to be a stay at home mom, maybe even more than Danielle Busby, which might surprise some people.

Danielle Busby is an incredible super mom that appears to do it all. However, after the birth of her first daughter, Blayke, she went back to work. They were a family that had two incomes, which allowed them to stress less about money, but when the quints were born, she knew she had to become a stay at home mom. Although Danielle takes care of all six kids by herself all day, she also manages to invest in a cycling studio and juggle that as a part-time investment. How she has all the energy is a mystery.

4 Jon and Adam Both Faced Their Own Set Of Challenges

For those of you who watched ‘Jon and Kate Plus 8,' it was obvious that Jon did not know what he was doing. He was clearly overwhelmed, but his wife, Kate, did not want to cut him any slack. She was constantly yelling at him and badgering him for not doing things that she wanted. She treated him like he should have been a mind reader, which clearly took a toll on his as well as their relationship.

Adam Busby’s scenario is slightly different. He struggled with depression after the birth of his children. The burden of having so many girls and his wife relying on him was overwhelming and so he began to shut down. However, once he finally opened up about it, his wife, Danielle, was more than supportive. She felt terrible that he was going through this alone and was determined to help him get back on his feet.

3 ‘Outdaughtered’ Has One More Girl In The Family

Although the Busby family and Jon and Kate Gosselin have a ton in common, the Busbys do have one thing over them. Jon and Kate may have them beat by two kids, but the Busbys have one more daughter than they do. Jon and Kate gave birth to twin girls first, while Adam and Danielle gave birth to just one.

During the second pregnancy, Danielle and Adam added five more girls to their family, while Jon and Kate only added three more to theirs. So in total, Danielle and Adam Busby are raising six girls, while Jon and Kate Gosselin are raising five. Either way, you look at it, both families have an extreme amount of females living under one roof. The Busbys might even have it worse since they don’t have any boys to help balance out the family dynamics. There will be so much estrogen under that one roof.

2 The Parents Still Fight

While Jon and Kate always fought in a damaging and unhealthy way, Adam and Danielle seem to argue and fight over normal things. Having so many kids is very stressful, and sometimes life gets in the way. Feelings get hurt, but communication is key, and Danielle appears to have that with Adam.

On the Valentine’s Day episode of ‘Outdaughtered,’ Danielle worked over time in order to get the house clean and the children to bed early. She set up a delicious looking romantic dinner that Adam was late to. She asked him to come home early, but sometimes work just has to get done. She was visibly irritated and annoyed, but after talking it over, she understood and forgave him. A similar argument broke out when Danielle wanted to invest more of her time in the cycle studio, but Adam was worried about daycare costs. After their argument, both of them had time to hear the other one out, and compromise.

1 Family Drama Will Always Exist

Families all have their own dynamics and of course, no family is perfect. Whether Kate is yelling at Jon for not making a bottle correctly, or Danielle is lecturing Adam about his money spending habits, there is bound to be some sort of drama on a regular basis. Navigating life with so many children creates an intensified family dynamic.

This means that when there are good times, they are most likely great times. Family gatherings will always be huge. There will never be a dull moment and nobody will feel lonely. However, when there are bad moments, they will usually be worse than most people’s. Sick babies create stressful days and nights. Sharing and discipline will be a lot harder and more stressful for the parents. Every family has drama, but each family is unique as well. A little drama never hurt anyone, just look at that crazy Kardashian family.
