15 Spine Chilling 911 Calls From Kids

Parents teach their kids to never talk to strangers and to always look both ways before crossing the street. They teach them to stay close where grownups could see them and to always stay out of trouble, and if parents are smart, they teach their kids to call for help in an emergency.

As adults, we have a responsibility to keep our children safe and out of harm’s way. We live in a society where kids are seen as weak and vulnerable and adults are expected to be good leaders, but sometimes it’s the other way around.

Kids are intuitive beings and from time to time they handle danger and traumas better than adults do. Regardless of fear, when faced with a difficult situation, they often show maturity far beyond their years and prove to be more courageous than we give them credit for.

Sometimes kids are smarter than grownups and they are the brave ones who protect us from harm’s way. In some cases, children are the heroes and in other cases, the only thing that kids need protection from is their parents.

Here is a list of true news stories from brave kids who called 911 during an emergency. Some of the stories are heroic and some are heartbreaking, but they all show bravery and courage from frightened children who did the right thing. From home invasions, violent attacks and neglect to protecting others and saving a life, here are 15 Spine Chilling 911 Calls From Kids.

The dispatcher did a good job at helping the girl feel safe until the police arrived. The girl did not know where she was, but she was able to describe her surroundings well enough for the police to locate the vehicle.

When the paramedics arrived, they were able to save the parent’s lives. The parents were arrested and the girl was taken to child protective services, along with the kitten.

When the mother showed up later, she was arrested and charged with child neglect. It was suspected that the children were left home alone for over four hours.

It’s hard for any parent to read this story and not wonder how anyone could leave their babies home alone. Fortunately, this 5 year old called the police and brought attention to the terrible conditions him and his baby sibling were living in.

9 9-Year-Old Girl Saves Father’s Life During Heart Attack

On a recent day in April 2017, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, a father credited his 9 year old daughter for saving his life.

It was a regular Sunday and the two were outside their house when the father suddenly felt weak and sat down to rest. After falling off his chair and lying on the garage floor, the daughter grabbed a cellphone. She first quickly called her mother to tell her to come home immediately and then hung up and dialed 911.

The paramedics arrived at the house within minutes and the father’s life was saved. He is now recovering at home and gives full credit to his daughter for saving his life. During an interview, he said “I wouldn’t be here, I’m sure of it, if it wasn’t for her.”

The gun shots woke up the little girl and when she found her parents passed out with blood in their bedroom, she called 911. “My mommy and daddy … there is blood coming out of my dad's mouth and he fell off the bed,” she told the dispatcher.

The dispatcher did an amazing job at keeping the little girl on the phone until police arrived at the scene. “Oh sweetheart, I will not let anything happen to you” she told the child as police were on their way.

During the call, officers were amazed at how well the little girl kept her composure while explaining what had happened. The sheriff was reported saying that given the circumstances, the little girl did a better job than most adults would have at providing information during the call.

Sadly, when the police arrived at the scene, the mother was already dead and the father died the following day at the hospital.

The 5 year old girl was probably too young to fully understand what had happened at the time, but the tragic story of her parent’s death will never be forgotten.

7 Child Calls 911 While Mother Faces Home Intruders With Guns

One regular day in July 2016, in Henry County, Georgia, a mother was at her home with her three children and her daughter’s friend. While downstairs with her youngest, two men broke in her home with guns in search of money.

Upstairs, her daughter realized what was happening and called 911 in a panic. While hiding in a closet with her brother and friend, the girl spoke to the dispatcher for eight chilling minutes.

With terror in her voice, she began telling the dispatcher, “There’s someone in my house” and then went on to describe the screams she heard from her mother downstairs. At one point, she explained that she thought she heard a gunshot and said, “I don’t know if my mom’s alive or not.”

When the home innovators finally left, the mother ran into the room to check in with children. Still on the phone, the mother told the dispatcher, “They took my car, they took my phone, they wanted to kill me, they wanted to know where the money was at.” The call ended when the police finally arrived.

While clearly in distress and continuously asking if the police were close, the girl did an excellent job at keeping her brother and friend calm and quiet while answering all the dispatchers questions.

6 911 Officer Answers Call From Own Daughter During House Fire

In January 2017, in Madisonville, Texas a 911 dispatcher was doing her job when she received a 911 call from her own 14 year old daughter.

Dispatcher: “911. What’s your emergency?”

Caller: “Mommy. Mommy. It’s Cassidy. The house is on fire.”

For over five minutes, the mother had to stay on the phone with her daughter while sending help over to her own address. At one point during the call, her daughter told her mother that her son and husband were in the house trying to get the dogs out.

The sheriff later told the news that the dispatcher did an amazing job at staying calm while her own house was going down in flames.

Emergency dispatchers are trained to stay calm while speaking to people in chaotic situations, but it must be a dispatcher’s worst nightmare to take a call from their own family member. Luckily, in this situation even though the house was burnt down, everyone got out safe and no one was hurt.

5 8-Year-Old Calls 911 After Father Overdoses In Car

One January evening in 2017, an 8 year old boy called 911 after his passed out in the car in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

During the 911 recording, he was heard saying, “I think my dad is dead, he's not waking up for anything.”

The boy did not know where he was, but he described his surroundings to the dispatcher. A man who was walking by stopped to help the boys and was able to give the police the exact address of the vehicle.

When the paramedics arrived at the scene, they were able to wake the father up and take him to the hospital. It was suspected that he overdosed on heroin in the car.

The children were taken to their mother while the investigation went on.

Yet another example of a child demonstrating a great deal of intelligence and courage despite their parents' lack of responsibility.

4 11-Year-Old Calls 911 To Report Stabbing While Hiding In Attack

In July 2016 in Detroit, Michigan, an 11 year old girl called 911 while hiding in the attack to report a stabbing in her house.

The suspect and the victim were male friends. After a couple of drinks, a heated argument turned into a violent act. The suspect stabbed the victim in the neck which led to his death.

Although the relationship between the young girl and the men is unknown, there is tragedy in the fact that the girl witnesses the violent attack. Undoubtedly terrified, the girl hid in the attack to report the attack.

When the police arrived, the victim was already dead and the suspect was found hiding outside.

Children who witness violence carry lifelong scars. Unfortunately in this case, witnessing a murder is an image that this young child will have to remember for the rest of her life.

This is what a nearby neighbor had to say about the incident: "Where was the mother? Where was the child's mother? It's sad. It's really sad. Look what that child is going to have to go through for battles of her life. To see that. Whether it was her father, uncle or whatever relative to what he was to her. Really sad."

The suspects invaded the house early in the morning and shot the homeowners several times. The victims were young parents to two children who were also home during the shooting.

Despite being shot over eight times, the mother survived the attack, but unfortunately, the father died from his injuries. After the shooting, the oldest son called 911 to get help.

It was believed that the attackers and the home owners did not know each other and the home invasion and shooting was a random act of violence.

Sadly, the children will be forced to grow up with the horrific scene engraved in their memories.

The mother explained to the police that her and her husband had taken Roxy (aka Oxycodone) and her husband was also high on heroine. Police were able to find a pulse on the husband and he later gained consciousness.

Both parents who were 30 years old were charged with endangering welfare of children.

Even though this little boy was only five years old and living with addicts, he still knew what to do when he thought his parents were dead. It is a very sad story, but at least attention was brought to the police about his circumstances, so child protective services could intervene.

1 Child Calls 911 After Mother Passes Out

To end with a positive story, one day in February 2017, in Tifton, Georgia, a little girl called the police and possibly saved her mother's life.

The mother was very ill and passed out in her home. When her young daughter was not able to wake her mother up, she called the police for help.

When the police arrived, the girl was too small to unlock the door, forcing the police to breakdown the door. The mother, who was very sick was rushed to a medical center where she received medical attention. She had no recollection of what had happened.

The little girl explained that her mother had previously taught her what to do in case of an emergency. After the event, in an interview she explained what had happen. “The police was raising my mommy up because my mom had a headache and then my mommy didn’t wake up,” she said.

This little girl, along with the all the children in the stories above showed bravery and maturity regardless of their ages.

Let these stories be a reminder to all of us to make sure our children know how to call for help when faced with an emergency. As these stories show, children are certainly capable of demonstrating bravery, and they may even handle emergencies better than adults do.
