There is so much attention on Kim Kardashian West and her growing family with Kanye West, that it is easy to forget that it was not long ago that Kim was marrying someone else. Remember how she got engaged to that one basketball player and then they had that lavish wedding and then got divorced like three days later? Remember how she was technically still married to Kris Humphries when she was pregnant with North? Good times.

There is a lot about that wedding that is super sketchy, including the network coverage of it, the brides family’s reaction to the big day, and the amount of money that went in to this extravagant event. I’m sure Kim would rather that we all forget that it ever happened but we can’t help being enthralled by weddings—especially when they go off the tracks so quickly.

Is there evidence that the two really loved each other? Did their families foretell their demise before they could? What went so wrong with this wedding—and the couple—that caused them to have one of Hollywood’s shortest marriages on record?

Well friends, there is a lot of sketchiness when it comes to the marriage between Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries…

15 There Were Only 90 Days Between Proposal And Wedding

Listen-- there is nothing wrong with feeling like you want to marry the love of your life as soon as humanly possible. But for anyone that watched “Keeping Up With The Kardashian’s”, it was obvious that Kim and Kris were not that couple. They fought all of the time. They were rarely together. Basically, every single one of those crying memes of Kim has come from the time that Kim was with Kris.

Some tabloids have speculated that Kim wanted the wedding ASAP because she wasn’t getting any younger and there may be some truth to that. Kim has said herself that she really wanted to get married and have kids, and maybe her wish to start a family quickly was partly to blame for the short length of her engagement.

14 They Never Spent More Than A Week Together

Good Lord—how could you possibly know if you want to spend the rest of your life with someone if you have never spent more than a week with them?

(My husband and I backpacked around Europe for three weeks before our wedding, and it showed me that although he does not know how to whisper nor does he like “quiet” time, we were a good match. It is this sort of quality one-on-one time that lets a person know what they are getting into!)

Perhaps Kim and Kris just got swept up in the idea of falling in love, like billions of couples before them. Their traveling lifestyles kept them apart for long lengths of time so even they got married they barely knew each other at all…

13 Kris Jenner Gave Kim An Out Before The Wedding

The night before the wedding Kris Jenner pulled aside her daughter and questioned her wedding. She blatantly asked, “Do you want out? You’re not yourself.” Kris J. had been pretty much behind the wedding up until this point, but could see that Kim was having some real hesitations. This mama gave Kim an out—a chance to leave before she married the wrong guy. Unfortunately, Kim did not take it. Instead Kim walked down the aisle with a man she would end up hating approximately three weeks later. A bitter divorce would ensue, in which Kim’s name would be dragged through the mud. Paparazzi would accuse her of only getting married for the money, as would her soon-to-be ex-husband. On the plus side, it was really confusing having two Kris’s in the family.

12 The Proposal Was Called-Off

The initial proposal that Kris Humphries had planned did not go through. Kris allegedly was going to propose at a restaurant but cancelled the plan because he got so fed up with Kim. The couple could not agree on where they were going to live, and the fact that Kim kept telling Kris that he had to stop living like a college kid in a dorm got under his skin. He apparently was also afraid that Kim would spend all of his money. (To be fair she might have—but it would have all been really pretty.)

Kris later proposed anyway—in Kim’s bedroom. He spelled out “Will you marry me?” in rose petals…which is kind of the modern equivalent to getting someone’s name tattooed on your body. IE You are doomed.

11 Khloe Predicted Failure

It was no secret that Khloe Kardashian did not think that the wedding between Kim and Kris was a good idea. She was not subtle about her misgivings, and this caused such a rift between the sisters that at one point Kloe was actually DIS-invited to the wedding. Luckily the two mended fences so Khloe could witness the calamity.

But perhaps the funniest/saddest prediction was made by none other than Kloe who anticipated the end of the couples’ marriage—during the ceremony. She was overheard whispering to another guest, “I give it six f*@#ing months.”

That was sort of cruel for Khloe to say, especially when she said it loud enough for people to overhear, but it was true. In fact, really she over-estimated the length of their marriage by almost double…

10 Kim Dissed Kris At The Rehearsal Dinner

Kim did not wield her words nicely when it came to Kris Humphries. Perhaps this should have been a signal that their marriage was doomed, but it hindsight is there merely to taunt you. It was not just in the days preceding their vows that Kim couldn’t quash her negative feelings towards him—she dissed him at the rehearsal dinner!

“I hate him,” she told two friends during dinner. “Every last thing annoys me.”

Ladies—let this be a lesson to you. If you ever feel like the person you are about to marry is the most annoying person on earth, than that is a solid clue that you should not be agreeing to spend the rest of your life with them. Run, do not walk, away from this relationship!

9 Kim Insisted Their Proposal Be Re-shot On KUWTK

During the divorce proceedings, a lot of behind-the-scenes information emerged from the filmmakers of “Keeping Up With the Kardashian’s”. Various film crew members had to testify via disposition on the way that things were shot, how much the cast new about events, etc.

One executive producer admitted that Kim knew about the proposal ahead of time but still insisted on a re-shoot because she was not satisfied with how she reacted to it. They had to do a second take on the actual proposal.

I want to see the original footage—did she lose herself for a moment and say no? Did she have a lot of trouble saying yes to Kris Humphries? Did she have to practice the words, “I will”? Or was it some sort of vanity issue instead?

8 Kris Jenner Got A Wedding Facelift

You can never say that the Kardashian’s do not prepare for an event. Kris Jenner, mother of the bride, even went so far as to get a facelift for the occasion. Now that is some dedication! My mother got a pedicure for my wedding and I thought that was really special…

A part of me wonders if the botox alone was not enough to keep Kris Jenner’s emotions in check. Maybe a facelift was needed to tighten the muscles in her face so that her horror would not show during the ceremony. Is she mad? Sad? Who knows?

Whatever the reasoning, Kris Jenner wins the award for most effort put forth towards the wedding…even over Kim and Kris Humphries. (This might be yet another sign that the union was not going to last.)

7 Kim Wore 40k Worth Of Diamonds

On their wedding most women pick one item to treat themselves; maybe a pair of diamond earrings to couple with their grandmother’s necklace. Or perhaps a chain of pearls to show off the cut of their dress. But if you are Kim Kardashian, you wear of $40,000 worth of diamonds—not including her ring.

The blushing bride’s bling included an encrusted headdress that was a mix of boho and Arabian princess. Kris J. commissioned a hand crafted bracelet for her, and it was matched by two ginormous diamond earrings.

But if you think that is a lot of money to spend on jewelry get this—Kim’s ring alone cost upwards of $200,000. Yup, you read that right. Kim K was wearing the budget for someone’s house on her ring finger.

6 Kim Wore Three Different Dresses

Maybe Kim was overcompensating for the fact that she knew she did not want to marry Kris. Or maybe Kim just had the budget that could afford it—but either way she busted out not one, not two, but THREE different dresses on her special day.

The famous dress that she wore during the ceremony was a princess cut but she changed into a tight-fitting mermaid style for the dinner and toasts. When the dancing began she wore a long silk gown. In total, all three dresses cost over $60,000.

To be fair, every designer wanted in on this wedding. Apparently as soon as her engagement was official Kim was besieged with offers from designers who wanted to showcase their gowns in what everyone guessed correctly would be a popular, televised event.

5 Their Wedding Registry Totaled Over $170k

When I was picking out items for my wedding registry, I made sure that I put many low-cost items on there so my guests would not feel obligated to buy us the more expensive stuff—like the set of plates that cost $150.

Kim and Kris had a little bit bigger of a budget, so items on their wedding registry totaled upwards of $170,000. Can you imagine if you were a guest at their wedding, let’s say an old friend from childhood, and you were not famous? Imagine looking at her registry and seeing $2,000 napkins and diamond encrusted serving dishes. Do you use some of your 401K to purchase her a gift she may not even use? Or are you the jerk that gives her an envelope with a $25 gift certificate to Target?

4 Kim Made Millions Off Her Wedding

We all guessed that Kim made a ton of money off of her wedding, simply because it was televised for E! network and played on repeat for days. Normally we probably would never find out the details, but because of the divorce everything had to be entered into the record.

Court documents state that Kim received the following amounts:

-$175,000 from People magazine for the announcement

-$90,000 from Tao in Vegas for having her bachelorette party there

-$1.1 million from People magazine for exclusive wedding photos

-$1 million from E! for televising her wedding

While this is a ton of cash, it is important to note that Kim probably took home very little of this money because her wedding cost so much to begin with. Most of the cash went towards making the day “special”.

3 The Marriage Lasted 72 Days

I remembered that Kim and Kris’s wedding was short but I had forgotten how short—a mere 72 days to be exact. From footage from Keeping Up with the Kardashian’s, it looks like it really began to fall apart before it was officially started.

The crazy thing is that although their marriage only lasted two and a half months, it took almost two years for her divorce to process. Kim was, in fact, pregnant with North while technically still married to Kanye. She used this as a reason to try to expedite the divorce. Otherwise, when the baby was born, the judicial system would assume that Kris was the father of her baby when she was born. Can you say #awkward? Luckily the two were officially split before North West made her grand entrance…

2 Kris Wasn't Clued In On The Divorce

Clearly Kim and Kris had communication issues from the start, but it became obvious that they had basically stopped talking to each other when news of the divorce broke.

Kim issues ad statement via E! that was filling for divorce. It said, “After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage. I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best."

Kris issued his own statement: “I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce. I'm committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it work."

Kris did not get the memo that Kim was DONE.

1 Kim Thought Her Career Was Over

Kim Kardashian was accused of a lot of things when her new marriage ended. The media presumed that the wedding had been a sham for ratings, and even Kris Humphries himself alleged that Kim had married him for fame. Kris claimed that this was fraud and used it for grounds for an annulment.

But as Kourtney K was quick to point out, there would have better choices had this been the case. She told David Letterman, “If she was going to do it for publicity, she’d pick someone people knew.”

Kim thought the media circus was the end of her career. She even told her family on an episode of KUWTK, “I hope you’ve saved your money. I think we’re done.” If she only knew what the next couple of years would bring her…
