Ever since the day she was born, the world has had quite a fascination with Suri Cruise. That’s not just because her father, Tom Cruise, happens to be one of the biggest Hollywood stars in the industry, it’s also because the little girl was born with the kind of star quality that many celebrities wish they had. She might only be a preteen, but Suri Cruise looks like a young girl who knows what she wants; from the clothes she wears to the way she styles her hair – and even by the way she carries herself in public. Suri Cruise has the "it" factor.

Despite the fact that Suri Cruise is a household name (even though she’s never starred in a movie in her short life), her mother Katie Holmes wants to make sure that she still grows up having a normal childhood, just like she did. But with the media and the paparazzi at every corner, it’s not always easy. That’s why we’ve got a list of 15 things that Suri Cruise is not allowed to do (according to her mom) and five things she does, just like so many kids her age. Check out our list below and let us know your thoughts in our comments section.

20 She Can’t Have Social Media

Katie Holmes only joined the social media world a few years after she pulled the plug on her marriage to Tom Cruise. And even though she does have an IG account, she’s very careful about the things she chooses to share, especially when it comes to her daughter and their behind-the-scenes photos. With that said, there’s no way that Katie Holmes would allow Suri Cruise to have social media. At least, not at this age. She knows just how ruthless online trolls can be and that’s why Katie, just like so many other parents out there, wants to wait until Suri’s old enough before having her own accounts.

19 She Can’t Talk To The Press Or Pose For Magazine Covers

Even though some celebrity kids like North West have already posed for the covers of celebrity magazines, that’s something Suri Cruise won’t be able to do for a very long time, if at all.

Katie Holmes has made it pretty clear that she doesn’t want her daughter to follow in her footsteps to become a Hollywood star or a celebrity herself. Instead, she would rather have her focus on her education. Katie has said, “I try to make our world very much an environment that’s just all about being a kid without too much of Hollywood coming into that. And I just enjoy it. Honestly, I think that there are so many books and opinions about how to be a great mom, and you have good days and bad days, and sometimes you do great and sometimes you could have done better. But I have to say I’m really enjoying having a 10-year-old. She’s a remarkable person.”

18 She Can’t Go Anywhere Without An Adult

Technically, this applies to almost every kid that is Suri Cruise’s age: she can’t go anywhere without an adult nearby. But because Suri is such a recognizable celebrity kid, Katie makes sure that she has the right kind of security with her at all times. That’s because she doesn’t want to take any chances. Suri is her pride and joy and that’s why Katie does everything she can to make sure she’s always with her, even if that means she has to clear her own schedule. But then again, wouldn’t any other mom in Katie’s same situation do the same? We believe so.

17 She Can’t Have Too Much Screen Time

These days, it seems as though there are more kids who would rather sit home and play online games or record dance and lip-synching videos on their electronic devices than actually play outside with their friends. And when it comes to Suri Cruise, she certainly is no different. She already has her own phone and as we can imagine, she probably spends a lot of time texting and communicating with her friends. That’s why Katie makes sure that her phone and screen time is limited. After all, school work comes first. Many celebrity parents like Katie prefer that their kids only use their devices during the weekends.

16 She Can’t Go To Birthday Parties Without Katie Present

Katie is the kind of parent that wants to make sure that she is present at all times. And because Suri is at that age in which she always needs adult supervision, Katie finds herself having to be at every kind of event, even during times that she would rather stay at home (especially on the weekends!). While she hasn’t really said this, it’s safe to assume that Katie doesn’t trust many people (especially after everything she went through during her marriage to Tom Cruise and her experience with Scientology). She has a very small circle of friends she can rely on.

15 She Hasn’t Been Seen With Tom Cruise’s Kids, Connor And Isabella

A lot of fans couldn’t help but notice that little Suri Cruise hasn’t been seen with her siblings, Connor and Isabella Cruise in years. Back when Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were still married, both Connor and Isabella were prominent figures in Suri’s life. Somehow, that all changed the moment Katie divorced Tom. So, what happened? While no one knows what is going on behind closed doors, there has been a lot of speculation. One of the theories is that Connor and Isabella are no longer close to Katie and Suri simply because they left the Church of Scientology, although that has never been confirmed.

14 She Can’t Appear on Television Shows Or Movies

Even though Katie Holmes is a household name thanks to her role as Joey in the 1990s hit Dawson’s Creek, and of course, because of her marriage to Tom Cruise, she doesn’t want her daughter to follow in her footsteps. While Katie has said that she will support her daughter in one day pursuing her dreams, she knows firsthand what kind of cutthroat business the entertainment industry can be. That’s why she would rather see young Suri pursue something else in her life. Seeing how great she is in starting her own business (like lemonade stands), we have a feeling that she might have a future in the biz world!

13 She Can’t Travel Out Of The Country

Ever since Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes finalized their divorce, Katie and Suri have stayed close to him. In fact, many reports have indicated that the mother and daughter duo are either at home in New York City or they travel to Los Angeles for Katie’s filming schedule. They’ve also taken trips to Disney World and Colorado, but haven’t been out of the country. “Remember the days when the only time anyone took out a camera was on birthdays, holidays and vacations? Like, that one has taken her child to Morocco. Why haven’t I taken my child to Morocco?” she said.

12 It’s Probably Not A Good Idea To Talk About Tom Cruise

As we mentioned above, no one really knows what happened between Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise during their separation. But what we do know is that Katie and Tom haven’t been seen together since 2011. There also have been no photographs of Tom spending time with Suri ever since Katie pulled the plug on their marriage. That’s why fans believe that any talk about Tom is probably more frown upon than prohibited. Every child loves their mother and father and it’s without a doubt that Suri Cruise loves both of her parents. But how much time she spends with them, both individually and together, has remained a mystery.

11 Katie Refuses To Deal With Public Temper Tantrums

It’s without a doubt that Katie Holmes loves being a mother. She’s said so plenty of times in her interviews. And while she’s very loving, open, and caring, she’s also a strict mother when she has to be one. She’s got no room and no time for public temper tantrums, just like so many parents out there. As seen online, she expects Suri to be well behaved, especially when they are out and about. And thankfully, that’s what she gets. A lot of fans have noticed that Suri looks like a very happy, healthy, and content child. Obviously, Katie Holmes is doing something right!

10 But She Does Have Play Dates With Friends

While Suri Cruise does have a life that is far different than many of her peers, she does do plenty of things that normal kids her age do, too. Suri has often been seen out and about with her classmates and friends. Even though her mother is a huge television and movie star, Suri has a very normal life. At least, that’s the way Katie Holmes tries to maintain it for her daughter. Long gone are the late date nights at restaurants with her parents. Instead, she spends her afternoons and weekends with friends that are the same age as her.

9 She Can't Be Disrespectful

A lot of parents would agree to this: your child can’t or at least shouldn’t be disrespectful to authoritative figures in their lives. That includes teachers, school administrators, coaches, and so on. Thankfully, Katie has done a fantastic job of teaching Suri what’s right and what’s wrong. But that’s mostly because out of all the jobs she’s had in her life, she loves being a mother the most.

Katie once said, “Becoming a mother has been the most amazing experience - in an instant you become strong. You have to be a little bit wiser; it's the most important job in the world."

8 She Can't Reach Out To Adults Katie Doesn't Approve Of

As mentioned above, Katie Holmes is very careful when it comes to her daughter and her security. She does everything in her power to make sure that her daughter is safe and sound, always. That’s why Suri can’t reach out to adults, especially if Katie Holmes doesn’t know them. But then again, what parent out there doesn’t have this rule, right? When it comes to both social media and text messaging, Katie, like so many other parents, regularly monitors her daughter’s communication. Parents don’t do this because they are snoopy. Instead, they do this to make sure no one is trying to reach out to their kids.

7 She Can't Skip School Or Homework

While a lot of celebrity parents (like the Jolie-Pitt kids) travel with their parents whenever they are filming a new project, Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise don’t do that. That’s because attendance is very important for Katie. She wants to make sure that her child not only has a stable childhood, but one that is as normal as possible, especially when it comes to school. “My child is the most important person to me and her upbringing is paramount to my work right now. It’s very important that I’m present and she has a stable, innocent childhood,” she told Town & Country magazine.

6 She Can't Act Like A Little Diva

Katie Holmes wants to raise a young daughter that has both respect and manners. She also wants one that is humble, courteous and appreciates everything that she has in her life. From the outside, it would be a perfect world if every child acted this way, right? But from the inside, every parent knows that it’s not always easy. But with that said, Katie wants to make sure that she’s not raising a daughter that acts like a diva. Simply put, it’s the kind of behavior that she won’t tolerate – ever. There’s no such “my way or the highway” attitude from her.

And here are the 5 ways Suri is a normal kid...

5 She Can't Make Any Of Her Own Rules Anymore

Back when Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were married, Suri had a free hand to do whatever she pleased, as her parents followed the Scientology rulebook of parenting. That’s not the case anymore. She can’t make her own rules but luckily for Katie, Suri Cruise is a very good kid. “My little one is very, very generous and very sensitive,” Holmes explained on the Today Show. “So, she’s always [saying], ‘Mom, let’s give my old toys to people who need it.’ So we are always doing that. I don't over-gift. I don't inundate my child with a lot of things.”

4 Suri’s Love For Dance And Gymnastics

Suri has a very busy after-school schedule. Not only does she love setting up lemonade stands at New York City area parades, but she also loves to do dance and attend her gymnastics classes. As a matter of fact, she’s a little dancer in the making! For years now and even during Katie and Tom’s marriage, Suri was always seen going to and from her gymnastics and dance classes. It’s definitely one of her passions. Suri Cruise also loves attending Broadway shows with her mother, which doesn’t come as much of a surprise. That’s because Katie has been doing a lot of theater work herself. Suri has plenty of extracurricular activities to keep her busy.

3 She Has Family Holidays In Ohio

Ever since her separation from Tom Cruise, Katie has made a promise to her daughter that they would spend every holiday they could with Katie’s family back in Ohio. After all, Katie has always been very close to her parents. They even visit New York City as often as they can to help Katie with Suri whenever she’s working or filming. “We are getting ready for Christmas in my house. My daughter’s 8 years old and she already has her Christmas list ready,” she said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show several years back. “It’s written out. She’s very organized. I start to, like, get a little bit [stressed] because you cannot [mess] up talking to Santa. You cannot miss any item on that list, because if you [mess] that up, that’s years and years of hearing about it and then probably therapy.”

2 She Deals With Preteen Angst Just Like Everyone Else

And while Suri Cruise looks like she’s a well-behaved child whenever she’s out and about with her mom, we are sure she does have her ‘moments’ at home, just like many other kids her age. No one is perfect, right? Plus, Suri is at that age in which she will be dealing with a lot of different emotions as she transitions from being a little girl to a little lady. It’s without a doubt that she has preteen angst just like her peers. It’s a difficult time period for a lot of kids but thankfully Suri has her mom to rely on. Katie is always there to give her daughter the emotional support she needs.

1 She Can Choose Whatever She Wants To Wear

While Suri Cruise is no longer wearing expensive couture clothes to the park, she does wear everything and anything that she wants. A lot of people would agree that she’s a little fashionista in the making. Even Katie Holmes thinks she’s got great styles and considers her to be one of her fashion advisers at home. “She'll really tell me [what she thinks]. Like today I'm wearing brown suede pants, and she said, 'I don't like your pants.' But then she'll say, `You've got to wear these shoes.' Or 'That's so pretty, Mom. Wear that.' She's got a great eye.”
