Mega reality star turned business mogul and celeb socialite Kim Kardashian is the loving mother of 3 beautiful babies. Her most recent addition to her family, baby girl Chicago, was carried by a surrogate unlike her previous 2 children. Kim reportedly had very difficult pregnancies with the birth of her son Saint putting both of their lives at risk

Each pregnancy had their own issues including preeclampsia and placenta accreta which can be quite harmful. According to reports, Kim’s doctor warned her against her and Kanye trying to conceive again as the delivery could ultimately harm her or the baby beyond recovery. However, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West saw another baby in their future and that was made possible with a surrogate. Kim said, while the experience was unreal in the best way, it was hard to release that level of control of course.

To regain control, however, she reportedly gave her surrogate a lengthy list of rules and regulations to abide by to create the healthiest baby possible. From the food she ate to her beauty upkeep, Kim’s surrogate had her work cut out for her when she signed up for this job.

Are the rules a bit over the top or are they right on the money?

15 Kanye’s Music Must Be Played Daily

I have been a fan of Kanye’s music since I was in my early teen years. He is a musical genius and even if his personality is trash, his music certainly isn’t. That is undeniable and I am certain Kim is one of Kanye’s biggest fans. Kim was reportedly terrified that, because she didn’t physically carry the baby for 9 months, bonding would be a challenge. One of the ways Kim and Kanye wanted to encourage that special parental bond was by making the surrogate play Kanye’s music regularly. The theory is that the growing baby will hear her new daddy’s voice while she is in the womb and recognize it when she arrives. While I don’t think this is a strong likelihood and many parents that have gone through the surrogate experience bond just fine with their babies minus the rap tracks, I guess it can be comforting.

14 Hair Dye Is Out Of The Question

One of the myths that have circulated around the motherhood community for as long as I can remember is that you cannot dye your hair while pregnant. The reasoning behind that is the chemicals of the hair dye can seep into your bloodstream via the scalp and cause damage to your growing baby. During my pregnancy, if I heard something was unsafe for my unborn son, I didn’t care how unlikely it seemed; I was avoiding it by all means. This included hair dyes. However, the limited research that is out there about dying your hair during pregnancy says that it is actually not harmful to the baby or the mom. Very small amounts of the chemicals actually enter the body via the scalp and that trace amount doesn’t reach the fetus. Whatever the case, Kim K doesn’t really care about the scientific evidence and avoiding hair dye was a must for her surrogate.

13 Had To Give Her Cat Away

I am a diehard cat lover. I think they are among the smartest and most adorable pets available and wild cats are simply majestic. During my pregnancy, I didn’t actually own a cat which was for the best it turns out. While it may seem totally absurd and a stretch, pregnant women are advised to avoid changing kitty litter as the contents can contain harmful bacteria that can penetrate the placenta and negatively affect the baby. Kim Kardashian, previously having carried 2 of her children, was already well aware of this potential harm. Asking the perfect surrogate to get rid of her cat may have been taking it overboard so within her list of demands, so Kim Kardashian simply requested she pawn off the kitty litter duty onto someone who wasn’t carrying her next baby.

12 Organic Foods Only

By now, most people know that organic foods are supposed to be the best option. They are free of pesticides and other chemicals that are used during the planting and picking process. However, eating totally organic can be pricey and stressful because the average grocery store doesn’t carry an organic version of everything. One of the famous couple’s last worries is money or having enough to purchase organic chicken for their family. Kim wanted her surrogate to eat as she would during her pregnancy which means a personal chef/nutritionist as well as a strict mainly organic diet. While Kim has been quoted saying that she wasn’t out to make the pregnancy impossible for her surrogate to enjoy. She even said that she was cool with her indulging from time to time but wanted her to be as healthy as she could be.

11 Can't Leave The House Without A Gang Of Security

For some moms, the time it takes to go to the grocery store, Target, and the dry cleaners is one of the few times during the week that they get to be alone without a child nagging them for something. Kim’s surrogate is a mom herself, reportedly, and even though she was carrying around tabloid royalty, I’m sure she still enjoyed running solo errands as much as possible. However, those peaceful trips to the market were not permitted while being the surrogate of Kim and Kanye’s. They employed their team of security guards to protect their surrogate and baby while she was out and about on the town. I am sure it drew a wealth of awkward attention her way to be an average pregnant lady walking the streets with a mass of security guards. The heightened protection is understandable, though.

10 No Hanky Panky

Like I mentioned before, the surrogate is reportedly married and I’d imagine that they enjoy a healthy relationship in all aspects. While there is no harm in getting it on during pregnancy, as long as the pregnancy is not high risk, Kim K had specific restrictions in that department for her surrogate. Kim’s instructions were clear. The surrogate had to refrain from intimacy weeks prior to the infertilization procedure as well as the 3 weeks that followed. There wasn’t a clear explanation as to why Kim included this rule specifically but I can speculate. Kim and Kanye reportedly shelled out a hefty amount of money to have the surrogate carry and deliver their baby. The last thing they would want is to wait 9 months for a baby that wasn’t theirs. The restricted time period likely offered some sort of assurance that a mix up wouldn’t occur.

9 Headaches? No Advil Allowed

During my pregnancy, my second trimester was plagued with migraines. Every trimester has symptoms that stand out more than others. Before pregnancy, headaches and migraines were not a norm for me so I suffered through that 3 month period. It turns out that headaches during pregnancy is absolutely normal. Whether it’s from dehydration or exhaustion, many pregnant women report terrible headaches. For Kim K’s surrogate, she had to find more natural alternatives to fight her headaches. One of Kim Kardashian’s rules were no aspirin or ibuprofen. While it probably sucked during the rough days, Kim is on track with banning those kinds of pain relievers. Doctors advise staying away from specific pain relievers as they may harm the growing baby. Luckily, the headaches typically don’t last too long and a warm rag and hot cup of decaf tea can offer a bit of relief.

8 Must Give Birth At The Same Hospital As Kim

On top of seeing the same doctor, Kim required her surrogate to give birth at the LA hospital Cedars-Siani Medical Center. The swanky hospital is close to Kim and Kanye’s home but is also the home to most celeb births on the west coast. While I am sure it is an amazing hospital with all of the extra comforts a delivering woman can want, the surrogate was reportedly not happy about it. Just like choosing the doctor that will, essentially, be a part of one of the most invasive moments of a woman’s life, being able to choose the place where it will all go down is important. Even though the surrogate was not the mother, of course, she is still the vessel of which a human life is being delivered and should be allowed to have a say in where that happens. It was reported that she stood her ground with the celeb couple and demanded to be able to have Kim’s baby in San Diego which is 120 miles from the mother to be’s home.

7 Must Use A Personal Trainer And Nutritionist

One of the luxuries of being pregnant, outside of creating a human life, is being able to shamelessly eat what you want. I personally took it overboard and ate in a way that would make you think I was having triplets. There are few feelings that reach the joy of satisfying an incessant pregnancy craving at 3 in the morning. However, Kim let her surrogate know that she would have to eat according to her own personal nutritionist to makes sure the growing baby was getting everything she needed. She also threw in a personal trainer to make sure the surrogate’s body was physically prepared for labor and delivery. Working out makes a difference when it comes down to handling painful contractions and having a smooth delivery which are all good for the baby. Clearly, Kim knows this.

6 Stay Away From Cheese

Cheese is one of life’s greatest edible pleasures. Even for people that steer clear of dairy products, they still happily enjoy cheese substitutes. That says plenty. However, for Kim’s surrogate, her days of indulging in blue cheese and hunks of brie were no more. While this may seem like a totally outrageous and controlling thing to request of someone, it turns out that soft, moldy cheeses like brie and blue cheese can cause harm to the unborn baby. Like deli meat, soft cheeses can contain listeria which is one of the few food poisonings that can penetrate the placenta and harm the growing baby. It's no wonder Kim nixed cheese of the list of foods to eat during pregnancy.

5 Random Visits Will Happen

The great thing about being an adult is that you can move about the world on your own terms. You don’t have to worry about parents or other adult figures popping up on you to make sure you are following the rules. This should be true for surrogates as well. However, Kim Kardashian is a true believer in making sure her surrogate is doing as she’s told. This means frequent, unannounced pop-up visits to check if the carrier of her little one was adhering to the specific nutrition rules, physical activity, and staying away from the no-no’s as outlined by Kim and Kanye. While I am sure it can be annoying to deal with frequent unannounced visits, it is understandable. Kim and Kanye entrusted another woman to carry their baby and deliver her healthy and thriving. If nothing else, that requires random pop-ups.

4 Stay Away From Hot Tubs

Kim’s surrogate is reportedly a married mom that has been a surrogate for other couples in the past. Well, if she imagined herself taking a relaxing dip in a hot tub with her hubby, Kim totally dashed that possibility. Hot tubs seem harmless, to be honest. They are relaxing and can be soothing to an achy pregnant body. However, doctors and experts actually recommend pregnant women steer clear of hot tubs for more than 10 minutes at a time, if at all. The issue is that the temperature of the hot water raises a person’s body temperature and, for a woman carrying a baby, that can harm the growing little one. Kim Kardashian let her surrogate know that 10 minutes was too much of a risk and there would be no hot tub fun allowed for her.

3 Kick The Caffeine

I am literally powered by coffee on a daily basis. Before my first cup in the morning, I am literally a mean zombie that can’t figure out how to handle life. During my pregnancy, I’d read that caffeine was not suggested and should be limited or eliminated if possible. Again, I was incredibly cautious the entire 9 months so I ended up kicking my coffee habit way sooner than I would have liked, though I picked it back up as soon as I could. Caffeine ups your heart rate and blood pressure which is not a good thing at all for women carrying babies. Kim Kardashian didn’t want to risk preeclampsia or a premature birth all because of a few too many swigs of coffee so she limited her surrogate to 1 cup of caffeine of her choice per day. I am sure that surrogate drank her caffeinated drink nice and slow to savor it.

2 Use A Specific Doctor

When you are choosing the doctor that will ride with you from start to finish of your pregnancy, there is a long list of requirements that they likely have to fulfill. The doctor you choose to deliver your baby will be the one you depend on when you have strange pains in the middle of the night, a sudden onset of braxton hicks contractions, or just want to ask ridiculous questions. Kim K’s surrogate, a woman that had acted as a surrogate for non-celeb parents in the past, had her own doctor that knew her history and made her feel comfortable. However, Kim K was not interested in her surrogate going to her own doctor, no matter how wonderful he was or how comfortable he made the surrogate feel. Kim required her surrogate to see the doctor that delivered Kim’s first 2 children, North and Saint.

1 Stay Out Of Saunas

Whether you like to sit in a sauna after a workout or just for the relaxing steam the ease your muscles, it can be nice to indulge in. When I was pregnant, my muscles were tired and achy just about everyday. Growing a human requires daily physical work that is beyond anything my body has ever attempted. Like most pregnant women, I am sure Kim’s surrogate went through those same aches and pains. A trip to a hot sauna to unwind and relax might help relieve some of the aches but according to Kim’s list of rules, sauna trips are out of the question. That seems like such a specific request but much like hot tubs, doctors suggest pregnant women stay away from saunas as they raise the body temperature for mom and baby which can be dangerous.
