Back when Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were still married, Suri Cruise was one of the most photographed celebrity tots in the world. That was mostly because there were so many people that were fascinated by her and her lavish lifestyle. Whatever Suri wanted, she got.

It was almost as if Tom Cruise wanted to make sure everyone knew that his little princess lived an opulent life, with her expensive designer clothes, late night dinners to the best restaurants that the Big Apple had to offer and even short helicopter rides to her gymnastics classes.

But all that came crashing down the moment Katie Holmes pulled the plug on her marriage to Tom Cruise. Although it’s never been confirmed, Katie did this mostly because she didn’t want her daughter to be subjected to the bizarre auditing that many kids her age went through as members of the Church of Scientology. Katie worked hard to distance herself and her daughter from all things Scientology, regardless of what Tom Cruise had to say about it.

With that being said, we’ve got 15 things that just doesn’t make sense, as far as Suri’s life after Scientology. Check it out and let us know what you think!

15 No More Photo Ops With Dad

Back when Katie Holmes was still married to Tom Cruise, the Hollywood actor was in his daughter’s life everyday. As a matter of fact, a day didn’t go by that Tom wasn’t spotted out and about with his family. Yet the moment Katie shocked the world by filing her divorce papers, all of that changed. Right after the announcement, Tom took Suri on a special daddy and daughter trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Since then, he hasn’t been seen with his daughter, although some reports have suggested that they allegedly see each other behind closed doors. Of course, those reports aren’t confirmed either, so your guess is as good as mine. Only Tom knows the truth.

In Touch Weekly states, “Though Tom nor Katie has ever publicly commented on the situation, it's been reported that Tom hasn't seen Suri in years, as after leaving Scientology, Suri and Katie became suppressive people.’ In the church, the phrase is used to refer to anyone who has left the religion, and members are allegedly forced to cut off communication with them — though Katie is trying to bend those rules for the sake of their daughter since Tom refuses to quit the church.”

14 No More Scientology

One of the biggest reasons why Katie Holmes left Tom Cruise is because she was worried about Suri Cruise’s future in the Church of Scientology. She didn’t want her to be subjected to any of the grueling auditing sessions that many little kids her age had to go through.

According to Katie, all she wanted was for her daughter to have a normal upbringing. And that wasn’t going to happen if she stayed married to Tom Cruise. That’s why she knew she needed to find a way out, no matter how difficult it would be. Luckily for Katie, she managed to escape alive and unscathed. But unfortunately for Suri, she no longer gets to see her father as much as she used to. Some even believe that she doesn’t get to see him at all.

Here’s what you need to know, according to Café Mom: "Tom is the fiercest Scientologist on the planet, but it's beyond heartbreaking to be forced to cut ties with your child," an insider alleged to Star magazine.. "Tom has reached the breaking point, and something has to give. If he wants her back, he'll have to walk away from the church, which has been a huge part of his life. Leaving Scientology would be the toughest decision he'll ever have to make!"

13 No SeaOrg In Her Future

One of the scariest things about the Church of Scientology for Katie Holmes was the Sea Org. Technically speaking, it’s a legally nonexistent Scientology organization. It’s supposedly a private naval force. Members of the church are given free room and board in exchange for long hours of hard labor on board their ship. Members also sign a lifelong commitment to the Church of Scientology with a billion year contract. It might sound like a sea retreat on-board a ship, but it’s really not.

The Daily Beast reported earlier this year, “The final straw allegedly came when Holmes began to suspect that she would soon be separated from her and Cruise’s young daughter, Suri. When Cruise and Holmes split in 2012, it was amidst rumors that the star feared her husband was planning to ship their daughter Suri off to Sea Org—an elite training division of the Church that requires its members to sign a ‘billion-year contract.’”

Cruise and Holmes’ hasty settlement, which was finalized just 10 days after Holmes filed for divorce, reportedly stipulated that Suri would have no relationship with the Church of Scientology. Unfortunately, this agreement appears to have wreaked havoc on Suri’s relationship with her father, as the two are rarely seen together.

12 No Scientology Auditing

Not only is the Sea Org as scary as it sounds, but there’s also the auditing. Katie Holmes was truly worried about her daughter having to sit through lengthy sessions, in which she would “report” her parents’ misbehaviors to the higher ups. In other words, if you are a family of Scientologists, everyone gets to report on everyone. The same rules apply to children like they would for adults.

Kids even act like “spies” in their own families, and that’s something Katie clearly didn’t want for her daughter.

Katie was so worried about spies, that it even affected the intimacy and trust in her marriage with Tom Cruise. Here’s what This is Insider writes, “During his relationship with Holmes, Tighe says Cruise hardly paid attention to her or their children — Suri, his biological child with Holmes, and Isabella and Connor, who he adopted with Kidman. ‘Most of the time, Katie looked like a deer in the headlights, like she was being dragged around and having a hard time keeping up with him. Cruise is on the go all the time,’ Tighe told The Daily Mail. ‘I never saw him with his kids, apart from one time in 2007 when it was his birthday.’"

11 Birthdays Without Dad

Now that Tom Cruise isn’t an internal part in Suri Cruise’s life, the young little girl has to celebrate her birthdays without her father. And for a lot of little girls, that feeling sucks the most. But according to reports, if you leave the Church of Scientology, members are forced to break all ties with you. Anyone who leaves the organization is considered an ‘SP’ or a suppressive person.

And because both Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise are suppressive people, Tom Cruise is not supposed to have any contact with them. Therefore, he’s totally distanced himself from them, the same way he did with his ex-wife Nicole Kidman after their divorce. As a matter of fact, this happens with a lot of church members and their extended family. If you are not one of them, they simply want nothing to do with you.

The Daily Mail says, “Under the disconnection policy, Ron Miscavige explains, Scientologists cut off contact with any family member who leaves the church. It happened to Ron, not only with son David, but also with his two daughters, Denise and Lori, as well. He only speaks to one of his four children, Ron Jr, who left the controversial religion in 2001. Ron Sr escaped the church with his second wife Becky in 2012. They now live in West Allis, Wisconsin.”

10 Paparazzi Protection

Back when Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise were still married, public outings and staged photo ops were the norm. It’s as if the paparazzi knew everything there was to know about their family’s schedule. Because whenever they would step outside, the photogs would be there waiting to get many “happy family” shots of the trio together.

But that’s not the case anymore.

Katie Holmes makes sure that the photographers keep their distance. Even though they do get an occasional shot of Suri once in awhile, it’s not as intrusive as it used to be.

According to People Magazine, “Cruise said he phoned Suri nearly every day, though agreed that phone calls are a poor substitute for seeing a child in person. Talking to a young child on the phone, ‘you have to work at it. I’ve gotten very good at it. I tell wonderful stories, I also find that, you know, Suri is a very happy child, and confident, and has a good sense of herself.’ Cruise didn’t travel to New York City for Suri’s first day of school that September due to his work schedule and concerns about the media attention, he said, adding that Suri had never brought it up.”

9 More Control and Discipline

When you are a child that is being raised in the Church of Scientology, the normal rules don’t apply to you. In other words, there is a complete lack of control and discipline. You get to do whatever you want, whenever you want. That’s because Scientologists like to treat their children as if they were adults. They are also expected to learn from their mistakes as if they were adults, too. But for Katie Holmes, she wasn’t having it. She understood that Suri needed boundaries and that certain rules need to be applied. You can’t spend your entire night jumping on a bed and eating cupcakes for breakfast. Life just doesn’t work out that way.

Back in 2016 The Daily Mail reported, “Katie Holmes broke up with Tom Cruise because she feared she would end up like Nicole Kidman - with a daughter who Scientology turned against her, Daily Mail Online can reveal. Their six-year marriage was doomed once church members moved into their Los Angeles home so they could cater to Cruise’s every whim."

"That caused Holmes to freak out, fearing that daughter Suri could end up cutting off all contact with her under Scientology’s ‘disconnection’ policy, the father of church leader David Miscavige revealed in an exclusive interview with Daily Mail Online.”

8 Definitely More Respect For Mom

Now that Katie Holmes reportedly has full custody of her daughter Suri Cruise, she is raising her the way she believes children should and need to be raised. She sets rules, she sets boundaries and she has certain expectations that Suri needs to meet everyday. In other words, she’s being a good mom. And as a result, there’s a strong possibility that Suri has more respect for her mother, too.

In fact, there are a lot of people in Katie’s corner who believe that she is doing her best possible job as a single mother.

And as many parents will tell you, it’s not an easy job to have.

Here’s what former Scientologist Leah Remini told People Magazine about Katie Holmes, “I now see how hard things must have been for her and I’m so happy to see her and her daughter doing so well. I feel a kinship with her as a mother who wants do the right things for their child. I went from being very angry with Katie Holmes while she was in the church because she wrote these reports, which my ass was handed to me for … Then she leaves and I thought, that’s a ballsy move … As a mother I respect what she did.’”

7 But Does She Miss Her Dad?

It’s without a doubt that every child misses having both parents present in their lives, especially after a divorce. It’s not easy on anyone. Most children will tell you that they want both their biological mother and biological father in their lives, despite how messy or complicated their home life might be. But at the same time, children are resilient.

Even if Suri Cruise does miss her dad, Katie Holmes is doing a good job of being the one full-time parent that Suri needs in her life right now. She is making sure that all of her needs are met, plus more. With that being said, no one knows if Tom Cruise is looking to reconnect with his daughter, either behind closed doors or in public.

In Touch Weekly reports, “In 2012, Vanity Fair published a lengthy piece claiming that the Church held auditions for women to become Tom's girlfriend — and ex-wife Katie Holmes won the part. However, the religion was one of the main reasons behind their divorce, as the actress didn't want their daughter Suri, now 11, to be a member any longer. Former Scientologist Leah Remini even commented on the divorce, stating, ‘I know now [Katie] did what she did...because she had to protect her daughter.’"

6 No More Play Dates With Her Siblings

Sure, we haven’t seen Tom Cruise take his daughter Suri to gymnastics class in years. But believe it or not, there are two other very important family members that are missing from the little girl’s life too: her half-siblings, Connor and Isabella Cruise.

Back when Katie and Tom were still married, Connor and Isabella were often involved in their family gatherings and outings.

But now that Suri is no longer a Scientologist, it almost seems as though Connor and Isabella have distanced themselves from their sister, too. Now, that’s not confirmed, but things sure aren’t like they were before.

People Magazine reported, “In the wide-ranging, often contentious deposition, Cruise’s attorney Bert Fields was on hand as the star was forced to answer questions about everything from his use of private jets to Scientology. He revealed that Suri is no longer practicing the religion. Pressed about whether Holmes left him to protect Suri from Scientology, Cruise responded, ‘I find that question offensive. There is no need to protect my daughter from my religion.’ But asked whether Holmes left him in part for that reason, Cruise said, “that was one of the assertions, yes. There are many other aspects to the divorce.”

5 Holidays In Ohio

Now that Suri Cruise is no longer spending time with her father and his inner circle of friends and family members that are involved with the Church of Scientology, she’s spending more time with her mother’s side of the family. In other words, she gets to spend holidays in Ohio with Katie’s parents, cousins, extended family members and so on.

And apparently, Suri is loving every bit of it. She gets to experience a normal life that is outside of the Hollywood sphere. It’s also a great way for her to grow up with memories that every child needs and deserves.

Here’s what the New York Daily News had to say about it: “The wails of a 7-month-old infant echoed through the celebrity-studded dinner preceding the marriage of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. It was their daughter, Suri — but neither the baby’s mom nor the other guests showed concern. And then, writes actress Leah Remini in her new Scientology tell-all, things turned weird."

"Remini, after five long minutes, followed the sound of the crying baby to a bathroom where three women stood staring at the infant left lying on the floor. The enraptured trio, including Cruise’s sister and his assistant, were gaping at the hungry child as if she was “L. Ron Hubbard incarnate” — Version 2.0 of the late Scientology founder.”

4 More Exposure On Social Media

Soon after Katie Holmes filed for divorce from Tom Cruise, she did something that she never did before: and that’s join the online world that is social media. During her marriage, Katie said very little and she also did very little as well. But now that she’s a single mom and a single woman, she’s taken back the control in her life. She’s doing as she pleases and more importantly, connecting to those who are important to her, including her fans. But at the same time, she’s very careful about not revealing too much.

She only shares behind-the-scenes photos of her and Suri once in awhile and she makes sure that she does it in the most discreet way possible, too.

After all, she still is one of the biggest Hollywood celebrities on the planet. She knows better than to take any chances.

With all of that being said though, Katie does look truly happy and at peace. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters, right? The Today Show writes, “Since her headline-making divorce from Tom Cruise in 2012, Katie Holmes has preferred to keep her private life private. That means, even on her social media accounts, glimpses of daughter Suri are few and far between these days.”

3 More Outings With Mama Katie

Not only does Katie Holmes feel more comfortable about her life as both a Hollywood actress and a celebrity mom, but she also feels more at ease whenever she’s out and about. When she was married to Tom Cruise, she often looked strained and stressed.

But now that she’s a free woman, she often has a smile on her face and a little pep to her step, so to speak. But at the same time, she’s also very careful about what she reveals to the public. She knows that she has to protect her daughter Suri and that’s why she often speaks between the lines whenever she talks about Tom Cruise and their complicated marriage, divorce and past life together.

Speaking about her life as a working mom, Katie told Town & Country Magazine, “This business is so unstable, and you never really know where you’re going to be. The thing about directing is I can say I have this window and that’s when we’re getting it done. My child is the most important person to me, and her upbringing is paramount to my work right now. It’s very important that I’m present and she has a stable, innocent childhood. I feel so blessed to do what I do, but there’s nothing in the world better than watching your child succeed.”

2 More Friends From School

It’s safe to say that when Katie Holmes was still married to Tom Cruise, every aspect of Suri Cruise’s life was controlled. She also spent more time with her parents than with anyone else in her life. And for someone as young as Suri, that was very troubling. After all, kids her age deserve to play with other friends that they have similar interests with. But that didn’t seem to be the case with Suri.

Because she was treated so much like an adult, she didn’t get to spend much time playing with friends, having normal play dates or attend birthday parties.

Instead, she spent many nights going on late night dinners with her parents or crisscrossing the world to visit her father on his movie sets. And for Katie, it was an exhausting life to keep up with, not to mention for Suri, too.

Katie told Town & Country Magazine back in 2017, “Every day, kids get a little further away from you. That’s a positive thing. They should be becoming more independent, but it’s heartbreaking. You want them to stay with you forever, but they’re these amazing beings, and you have to do everything you can to give them what they need—and then they’re going to go. And that’s going to be very, very sad for me.”

1 Will Jamie Foxx Be Her New Stepdad?

Now that Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx’s relationship is an open secret in Hollywood, a lot of fans are asking the same question: will they take the next step and move in or possibly get married soon?

And if they do, will Jamie Foxx step in and become Suri Cruise’s new father figure? According to some people, the possibility is there. But at the same time, Katie is making sure that she covers her tracks so she doesn’t end up stepping on the wrong toes. The Scientology toes, that is. Either way, the chances are high.

The Daily Beast writes, “Still, as months and years passed, rumors of this celebrity coupling persisted. Anonymous sources insisted on Jamie and Katie’s relationship status and tabloids, sensing a story even bigger and more factually accurate than Jennifer Aniston’s phantom pregnancy, never gave up. While any secret celebrity dating scenario is fodder for a People cover or a clickbait headline, JamKat is a particularly elusive and fascinating pairing. That’s because Foxx and Holmes’ intense secrecy is rumored to be a condition of Holmes’ 2012 divorce from Tom Cruise, which was itself the ending of one of the most widely discussed and analyzed marriages in celebrity history.”
