Growing up I remember hearing women chat among each other about pregnancy. They would laugh while reminiscing about delivery room meltdowns. Family member freak outs and awkward questions from doctors. Their stories would range from from joyous experiences to dreadful uncomfortable honesty.
Everyone experiences pregnancy differently. Oftentimes, advice is like a box of chocolates, everything looks good in chocolate, until you bite the wrong one. Then surprise! Crap gets real, fast.
When I was pregnant I would search and read everything I could on being pregnant. One of my favorite things to do was read quotes on the experience of becoming a mom. What's interesting is how pregnancy is summed up in quirky, truthful quotes. There's a ton of them but here are my top sixteen best quotes of pregnancy.
16 -- Elizabeth Stone, Author of, 'A Boy I Once Knew'
"Making the decision to have a baby is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside of you."
I think while you are pregnant, it doesn't really set in, the miracle your child will become to you. It's when your baby is physically in your arms that you know; you live and breathe because of the child you birth. Your heart will always have their name etched in and it will react over everything involved with them.
15 -- Unknown Author
"A baby will make love stronger, days longer, nights shorter, bank roll smaller, homes happier, clothes shabbier, the past forgotten and the future worth living for."
When you're pregnant with you first child, you know mentally the trials and tribulations coming in the future. But really, you have no idea. You can't really prepare regardless of all the planning. What is guaranteed is when the years fly by, you will miss them.
14 -- Robin Kim
"Birthing is the most profound initiation to spirituality a woman can have."
During the whole labor and delivery you're scared. You will have all types of conversation with yourself and God. When your baby is placed in your arms for first time, in that moment you are the closet to a miracle, to perfection and pure goodness. You know what divine love is.
13 -- Unknown Author
"Pregnancy is the happiest excuse for feeling like crap."
Yes there will be good days and horrible days while carrying your baby. The awesome thing is, we know at the end of it every moment is the beginning of a new chapter.
12 -- Unknown Author
"Labor is the only blind date where you know you will meet the love of your life."
As a mom you know you create a perfect being in your baby. Before the first cry is heard, the crushing amount of unconditional love is already planted solidly in your heart.
11 -- Myla and Jon Kabat-Zinn
"In giving birth to our babies, we may find that we give birth to new possibilities within ourselves."
I know for me, having my babies changed the drive I had. Before I was okay with just getting by and doing okay while I worked on a better career. Now, my ambition has become centered on providing everything better than what I had for them. I try new things I never knew I was capable of and learn more about myself everyday.
10 -- Pamela S. Nadav
"There is such a special sweetness in being able to participate in creation."
The greatest gift of all is becoming a parent, it is a privilege to be able to create life and have the opportunity to cherish it for all of your life. The whole process of birth is special. I think of it as a true testimony of love. You know the hardships you are going to live through during pregnancy and labor scares all of us. It's the delivery we can't wait for, the chance to hold our little ones.
9 -- Winnie the Pooh
"A grand adventure is about to begin."
I can admit that I am not exactly sure if Pooh meant the birthing of a baby. The quote does fit the situation. Raising a child is nothing but an adventure filled with heart racing and pure joyful moments. You get to experience the world through your child eyes as they do and comfort them when it hurts them. I think the quote fits what the definition of motherhood will end up being. Everyday something new will come your way and it's exciting.
8 -- Maureen Hawkins
"Before you were conceived, I wanted you. Before you were born. I loved you. Before you were here an hour, I would die for you. This is the miracle of a mother's love."
Realistically this completely explains how a mother's love works. It generally breaks down how we think and feel about becoming a mom. We want you before you exist, love you before you have had your first breath and will die for you to keep you safe. Always and forever it is the strongest bond there is.
7 -- Joyce Armor
"Think of stretch marks as pregnancy service stripes."
Who really enjoys having stretch marks? But, instead of thinking of them as something negative, remind yourself the wonderful reason you now have them. You did a wonderful job by carrying your baby for 9 months, delivering and now raising them. They are badges of honor in my opinion and I'm proud of every line on my stomach.
6 -- Judy Ford
"Pregnancy is a process that invites you to surrender to the unseen force behind all life."
My take on this quote is rooted in my spiritual beliefs. I believe in a higher power that has made it able for me to be blessed with a child. Without that blessing, my life wouldn't be complete. I see the whole event as the closest to divine love there is. It's the human version of unconditional love, a love so strong that it's indescribable.
5 -- Jane Weideman
“Giving birth should be your greatest achievement, not your greatest fear.”
Think of everything you've went through during your life. Now, think about your pregnancy and how your body is constantly changing to help you be everything your baby needs. The fear of childbirth is natural because we know pain is coming. But don't fear the act, embrace the strength you have to endure it and rejoice in the happiness that follows.
4 -- Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh
"The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new."
I feel like I am a different person since becoming a mom. My world centers around what's best for my children. Before I put my dreams first, the main concern of the woman I was, was making myself happy. As a mom, all I want is my children's happiness, my world was flipped and I couldn't be happier.
3 -- Phyllis Diller
"By far the most common craving of pregnant women, is not to be pregnant."
Raise your hand if you couldn't wait to not be pregnant. I bet you raised it. I did! The uncomfortable nights, morning sickness, sore feet. We're all in the same boat in thinking--or wishing--for it to be over soon. We were counting down the days until we would hold our babies, but really we were counting the days until we could see our feet again.
2 – William Blake
“My mother groaned, my father wept, into the dangerous world I leapt.”
This is a perfect example of the delivery room from the point of view of a baby. The mom giving her all to push her baby into the world and the dad weeping in joy. In that moment life and love begins.

"A baby fills a place in your heart that you never knew was empty."
From personal experience I can say this is the truest quote of them all. I went through life expecting one thing and believing I was completely happy in my decision. When I was finally blessed with the chance to be a mom, the love I felt was so strong for them. I never would have imagined this was what I was missing. There was a whole part of me that hadn't been awoken yet, and my love for my babies have filled an empty hole I wasn't aware existed.
For me, this quote speaks volumes on how women feel once they become mothers. We get it the moment our child are place in our arms. This is what love is, what hope is. Being a mom is the best thing there is.
The benefit of knowing what other people views on pregnancy, can help us relate to one another. Of course not everyome is going to understand how wonderful being apart of creation is. That's why there are so many quotes out there. Everyone experiences a different feeling, thought or reaction. This variety of knowledge means someone went through close to what you felt. It's nice to have your thoughts come out of someone else's mouth.
