Being responsible for a tiny person who is dependent is a huge responsibility and often shifts the priorities in the parents’ lives. The celebrities who made this list all changed dramatically after becoming parents. Others had to entertain a whole lot more drama in their lives and seemed to have difficulty adjusting to their new role. If one thing is for sure, it’s that fame and fortune doesn't necessarily make parenting easier. Sure you can get hired help more easily. But these stars all prove that parenthood is an adjustment, regardless if you have a ton of nannies or not.

Read on to see how parenthood changed these famous A-listers for both the good and the bad. It’s not like there’s one perfect recipe for approaching parenthood successfully- everyone has just got to figure out what adjustments they need to make that works for their family.

20 Kylie Jenner: Shifted Her Social Media Priorities

Kylie Jenner surprised the world early last year when she announced the birth of her daughter Stormi after months of speculation. The pregnancy was especially a surprise given the socialite’s young age and that she’d only been dating her boyfriend, rapper Travis Scott, for a few months.

Despite the questionable timing, Kylie has proved that she was born for motherhood. She took an almost 9-month break from social media to maintain her family’s privacy and now posts less personal (and less scantily clad pics) to social media- by Kylie’s standards, at least),- proving being a mama has made her rethink her online priorities.

And it also appears motherhood has only enhanced Kylie’s work ethic. The star has continued to build her Kylie Cosmetics Empire, and Forbes magazine even declared this year she’s on track to become one of the world’s youngest billionaires. How’s that for having an unplanned pregnancy at 20?

19 Nicole Richie: Living The Simple Life

There was a time everyone knew who Nicole Richie was… and not always for the best reasons. The socialite daughter of Lionel Richie first made a name for herself as Paris Hilton’s best friend on the hit reality show The Simple Life. During the same era, the blonde was continually making headlines for her repeated DUIs, partying with Paris, and just seeming like a hot mess.

However, Nicole completely changed her ways when she got pregnant in 2008 with her then-boyfriend Joel Madden from Good Charlotte. She took a step back from the spotlight, distanced herself from Paris, and made sure she was no longer getting into trouble.

The star went on to welcome a second child, son Sparrow, in 2009 and she and Joel have been married since 2010. Nowadays, Nicole is focusing on her fashion designing career and enjoying life in the slow lane with her cute family.

18 Britney Spears: Survived The Year 2007

Britney Spears was already going down a slippery slope when she announced her shotgun wedding to back-up dancer Kevin Federline in 2004. Remember, she had eloped in Vegas with a childhood friend earlier in the year, only to have it annulled weeks later. It didn’t take Brit and Kevin long to start a family- their son Sean was born in 2005 and Jayden was born in 2006.

However, shortly after becoming a mom, Britney spiraled further out of control. She was constantly photographed looking like a hot mess. Things climaxed in 2007 when she infamously shaved her head and go into an altercation with a paparazzo. Clearly, the demands of fame and her new family pushed her to the edge.

Luckily, with the support of her family, Britney took the time she needed away from the spotlight to recuperate. She made a comeback with a new album, Circus, in 2008 and has since scored a residency spot in Las Vegas.

17 Jamie Lynn Spears: No Longer Nickelodeon Material

Britney Spears’ younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears was following in her sister’s footsteps as a promising teen starlet when she played the titular character in Zooey 101. Many believed she’d go on to have a successful singing career or perhaps switch to the silver screen as Brit has done for herself. But everything came crashing to a halt when the news broke the teen was pregnant.

Nickelodeon felt that having one of their biggest stars pregnant, unwed, and a teen mom would be bad for their image. So not only was Jamie written off from her show for the remainder of the season, but it was canceled shortly afterward. For years, Jamie took a step back from the spotlight to focus on raising her daughter, Maddie.

Only in recent years has the star come back to the spotlight as she’s trying to launch a country music career. Jamie also got married in 2014 and welcomed a second daughter named Ivey shortly afterward.

16 Rob Kardashian: Isn’t Keeping Up Anymore

Rob Kardashian- the only brother in the Kardashian-Jenner brood- has gone through quite the transformation since becoming a dad.

He was at the height of his popularity in the tabloids when he got into a relationship with model and personality, Blac Chyna… which was super awkward given that Chyna had a baby with the (then) boyfriend of Rob’s little sister, Kylie Jenner. It wasn’t too long before the couple announced their pregnancy, and welcomed daughter Dream in 2016.

Unfortunately, things came to a crashing halt shortly after Dream’s birth. Chyna moved out of their home, and each side made allegations of infidelity and substance usage against the other. Rob appeared to have a meltdown when he posted illicit pics of Chyna online, which led his ex to take him to court.

After settling their case, Chyna and Rob have been notoriously private. Rob hasn’t got back on social media, while Chyna refuses to talk about him. Sources say Momager Kris helped her son get his act together so he can maintain visitation rights to his little girl. Ever since, Rob has been a no-show at public events and online, leading everyone to believe he’s officially MIA.

15 Louis Tomlinson: Hasn’t Gone Solo Yet

One Direction fans everywhere were stunned when Louis Tomlinson announced he was expecting his first child, a son named Freddie, who was born in 2016. The situation was especially eyebrow-raising since the singer had broken up with his longtime girlfriend Eleanor Calder only months before, and now he was referring to his son’s mom as only a “friend.” Talk about a dramatic rebound romance!

The same year 1D went on hiatus and Louis’ former bandmates all began working on their solo careers. To date, all of them have released solo records, with the exception of Louis (though he’s had a few singles).

Louis has aired his frustration over the difficulties of launching a solo career, despite evidently wanting to be a single performer while still with his band. While sources say the musician is very active in his son’s life, we’re guessing it’s one reason he’s taken such a step back from the spotlight.

14 Angelina Jolie: Mama Of The Biggest Brood In Hollywood

Nowadays, Angelina Jolie is known for the large family she shares with her now-ex-husband Brad Pitt. But there was a time when Angie wasn’t always so squeaky-clean and family focused.

The celeb struggled with being the daughter of famous, problematic parents. She’s admitted to using substances in her younger years and participating in other risky behaviors. No one can forget her strange shot lived, marriage to actor Billy Bob Thornton, in which the couple would wear a vile of each other’s blood around their necks.

However, the celeb seemed to be completely transformed when she adopted her first son, Maddox, in 2002. She’s since become synonymous with her extensive charity work and her brilliant movie roles, and less so for her previously bizarre behavior. She later adopted two more children- son Pax and daughter Zahara- with her longtime partner Brad. The couple also welcomed three biological children- daughters Shiloh and Vivienne, and son Knox.

13 Pink: The Kiddos Saved Her Marriage

Pink has always been one tough cookie and she appeared she met her match in tattoo-loving, motorcycle-riding motocross racer Cary Hart!

The pair married briefly separated in 2003 after beginning to date in 2001 but were finally wed in 2006. But it wasn’t a happily ever after as the singer announced they’d separated again in 2008 after just two years of marriage. Pink famously released her song “So What” at the time, which gave her side of the story.

However, by 2010 the couple confirmed they were working on their marriage through counseling and that same year Pink announced she was pregnant with their first child. In 2011 their daughter Willow was born, and in 2016 they welcomed their son, Jameson Moon.

Pink has since credited having kids as the reason they were able to save their marriage. “We have learned the art of communication,” she said in an interview with 60 Minutes. “I don't hand my wedding ring back every night like I used to. That's just dumb and I can't actually get it off.”

12 Ryan Gosling: The Fiercely Protective Family Man

Every millennial female has had a crush on Ryan Gosling at one point in their life thanks to his swoon-worthy performances in flicks like The Notebook, Crazy Stupid Love, and La La Land. But while he was once a fresh-faced, hunky actor, fatherhood has transformed him into a fiercely protective family man (okay, he’s still pretty hunky).

Ryan became a dad when he welcomed daughters Esmeralda and Amada, in 2014 and 2016 respectively, with his partner actress Eva Mendes, who he’s been with since 2011. Before, it didn’t seem like the actor cared when or if he was photographed with the paparazzi (he had a very public romance with Rachel McAdams back in the day). But now the star is very against unwarranted photos of his girls being taken.

Both Eva and Ryan go the extra mile in protecting their girls from paparazzi, even refraining from posting photos of them online. The first photos of the couples’ daughters weren’t released until they were a couple of years old and even then it was only because a photographer snuck up on the family.

11 Victoria Beckham: From A Spice Girl To A Posh Mama

When Posh Spice met her future husband, David Beckham, she was busy touring the world with The Spice Girls. But as the girl group began to disband, exciting things were happening in Victoria’s personal life.

She and David were married in 1999, the same year they welcomed their first son, Brooklyn. After that, it seemed like Victoria was popping out kids left and right. They welcomed sons Romeo and Cruz in 2002 and 2005, respectively. Their only daughter Harper was born in 2011.

While some of the former Spice Girls were trying new ventures in the entertainment industry, Victoria appeared to be taking more of a step back as she became a mom-of-three. She began focusing heavily on her career in fashion and is now a well-respected designer- a career that likely allows her to spend more time with her kids versus being a singer. She even turned down the opportunity to do a reunion tour with The Spice Girls last year.

10 Liam Payne: Well, He Sure Grew Up Quickly

Liam Payne was the second One Direction guy to become a father when he welcomed son Bear with his then-girlfriend singer Cheryl in 2017. In what seemed like a split second the star went from a former teen heartthrob to a steamy young dad.

The couple, who have a ten-year age difference between them, raised eyebrows since they started dating in 2016. Cheryl was a judge on the X-Factor when Liam and the other 1D guys were discovered (they were just teens at the time), which led many fans to wonder how long their romance has been going on for.

However, the news that he was going to be a father is evidently what urged Liam to go public with his controversial relationship. Fans saw a noticeable difference in the celeb since going public with his family, including more confidence and more adult innuendos in his music- just take a listen to his hit “Strip That Down.” The star is clearly less concerned with harming his squeaky clean image now that he’s a father and solo act. Unfortunately, Cheryl and Liam split in the summer of 2018.

9 Jessica Alba: Being A Mom Inspired Her Business

There was once a time Jessica Alba was revered throughout Hollywood for being an icon of her time thanks to her svelte figure and smoking good looks. But the celeb has really altered her career since becoming a mom.

Jessica shares three children with her husband Cash Warren: Daughters Honor and Haven, born in 2008 and 2011 respectively, and son Hayes, born in 2017. The actress and her hubby had briefly separated right before she discovered her first pregnancy, and she credits their eldest daughter as the reason they walked down the aisle in 2008.

Since becoming a mom, the star has notably turned down more and more movie roles to the point where she’s no longer a huge fixture on the silver screen. Rather, Jess has pursued her passion of building her own business, The Honest Company, which sells eco-friendly products targeted towards families with kids. Motherhood has sure done wonders for this star!

8 Fergie: Took A 7-Year Hiatus

Fergie found fame as a member of the Black Eyed Peas before launching her own solo career. Aside from that, she’s also received media attention for her openness about her personal struggles, which in the past included an eating disorder, substance use, and a wild reputation.

Fans were a bit surprised when the singer began dating actor Josh Duhamel, as the two seemed like complete opposites. But it appeared the celeb was feeling ready to live a more low-key life. The couple married in 2009 and welcomed their only son, Axl Jack, in 2013.

In this time, the star took a 7-year hiatus from music before releasing her second studio album in 2017. She later explained she’d hit a creative roadblock and was more concerned with focusing on her personal rather than private life. We love that she’s putting her family first!

7 Ryan Reynolds: Found His Happy Place

Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds seemed like he didn’t know his place in life before becoming Mr. Blake Lively and welcoming two little girls. For years, the celeb made headlines over his colourful dating life- he was previously engaged to rocker Alanis Morisette for a number of years and had a short-lived, infamous marriage to Scarlett Johansson.

But something seemed to change for Ryan when he met his future wife, Blake Lively. Though he was just recently divorced, the star wasted no time in getting into a relationship with Blake (which led some tabloids to speculate they’d been seeing each other before he was single).

The pair married in 2012 and started a family ASAP, welcoming James in 2013 and Ines in 2015. Now Ryan can’t stop talking about his cute family in interviews and over social media, proving just how much his life has changed since becoming a dad.

6 Zooey Deschanel: From New Girl To New Mom

For years, New Girl star Zooey Deschanel maintained she never wanted children. “That's never been my focus," she told Marie Claire in 2011. “I like kids, and I like being around kids, but it was never an ambition, something, like, I need…I like working. That's what I like doing. I like to work." Many fans that felt the same way called her inspirational for challenging the stereotype that all women want kids.

However, the actress went back on her words when she announced the birth of her daughter Elsie Otter in 2015 with her now-husband Jason Pechenik. And it didn’t take the couple long to welcome their second child, a son named Charlie Wolf, in 2017. While many fans were thrilled the star was now a mama, others felt betrayed because she had previously been such a staunch supporter of not having babies.

5 Simon Cowell: He Actually Has A Nice Side

Music producer Simon Cowell got himself a reputation for being a bit mean during his long stint as a judge on American Idol and subsequently, X-Factor and Britain’s Got Talent. He never seemed ashamed of giving contestants his honest, harsh opinion, which led many to believe that’s what he must be like IRL.

But Simon has since proven he does have a nice side ever since becoming a father in 2014. Simon made headlines when it was announced the wife of one of his close friends, Lauren Silverman, was expecting his child- it was later revealed Lauren and her husband had been separated for some time before she and Simon got pregnant.

The couple welcomed a son who they named Eric, and Lauren went on to divorce her first husband. Simon has brought his mini-me to set multiple times and show off what a tender father he can be. Hopefully, his kid just never asks for singing advice…

4 Janet Jackson: Got Out Of A Bad Situation

The world was happily surprised when Janet Jackson gave birth to a little boy, named Eissa, at age 49 in 2016. The singer had been married to Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana since 2012 and it was the first child for the both of them. However, it wasn’t happily ever after for long.

Despite seeming like a rock-solid couple, rumours began circulating shortly after their sons birth that Wissam mistreated his wife. Fans noted Janet had been dressing and behaving differently ever since getting married. According to E! News, some source suggested the pair’s religious differences were to blame for the split and that they couldn’t agree on how to raise their son. Other insiders claimed Wissam was too controlling over his wife.

It seems like motherhood was the push Janet needed to end her tumultuous relationship. In 2017, Janet announced she had left her husband and the two entered into a million-dollar divorce case. Since then, the star has maintained a low-profile as she tries to sort out her family drama.

3 Drew Barrymore: Wild Child Or Carefree Mama?

Drew Barrymore is one of Hollywood’s original child actors who has luckily grown up to have an equally successful career as an adult. But at the same time, things haven’t always been so happy-go-lucky with Drew.

In her early teen years, the celeb has admitted to hanging with a wrong crowd and using substances and engaging in risky behaviour from a young age, even having to seek treatment at the young age of 14. Drew continued to be a wild child well into her ‘20s, which included a stint of elopements, rocky relationships, and tabloid rumours.

In recent years, Drew seems like a completely different person compared to who she was when she was young. They married in 2012 and welcomed their first daughter, Olive, the same year. Their second daughter, Frankie, was born in 2014. The couple eventually divorced in 2016, but Drew maintains they remain on good terms.

2 Eva Longoria: Waited A Long Time For The Right Man

Actress Eva Longoria seemed to think her chance at having kids was over… up until this year, that is! For years, the celeb made headlines for her rocky love life. She was first married to Tyler Christopher from 2002-2004, and then went on to famously marry Tony Parker in 2006.

Many fans thought that Eva had found ‘the one’ in Tony and the actress even stated she couldn’t wait to start a family with her hubby. The media began to speculate things were going wrong when they failed to have kids years into their marriage. Finally, in 2010 Eva revealed the marriage was over, later explaining her husband had been unfaithful.

With a string of bad relationships, Eva remained single for half a decade before meeting Mexican businessman Jose “Pepe” Baston, with whom she gave love another try. They were eventually married in 2016 and welcomed their son Santiago this past December.

1 George Clooney: Eternal Bachelor No More

For years, George Clooney had earned himself a reputation in Hollywood for being an eternal bachelor due to his reluctance to settle down. After one failed marriage earlier in his life, the actor said on many occasions he didn’t see himself walking down the aisle again, let alone having kids.

However, things all changed for him once he met his future wife, human rights laws Amal Alamuddin. The couple married within a year of dating and welcomed a set of twins a year after that, proving it didn’t take George long to commit once he found the right woman.

Nowadays, George says he can’t imagine life without his little family. "That seems like a lifetime ago. Now my house is filled with the warm sounds of babies crying,” he told E! News about his formerly single life. He’s sure singing a different tune from a decade ago.
