The paparazzi love a good photo of an A-lister with their children, and they will invade their privacy if it means they can get one. But there are seldom photos of celebrity children with their nannies, maybe because photos like these aren’t big money makers, but also because some celebrity parents may like to keep the fact that they don’t raise their children on their own on the down low.

There are celebrity moms who freely admit that they need help when it comes to raising their children, and parenting can be challenging, especially when trying to juggle a demanding job. Jessica Alba has praised her nanny and even shared photos of her on social media, but on the other end of the coin, there are celebrity moms who would never utter the word “nanny.”

Still, we do know that they make use of hired help because there are stories about what went wrong with the nanny, or their former caretakers have spoken out about how working for a celebrity employer is not always fun. Below are 20 celebs who keep their nanny on the down low, or have mentioned they need help (but fans may not have known they had it).

20 Kim Kardashian Has Nannies To Help Her Out, But We Don’t Hear Much About Them

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are still together (despite many people initially thinking their marriage wouldn’t make it), and they share three children; North, Saint, and Chicago.

We know Kardashian loves motherhood, and she is often photographed with her children, or she chooses to share sweet photos of them on social media. Being a mom, and navigating the changes and challenges that come with it, are also topics she’s willing to speak about in interviews. Yet, we seldom hear anything about the Kardashian-West children’s nannies, and according to OK! Magazine, they do have them. The publication notes that the kids have been photographed with nannies in the past, and the couple has two nannies (this was before the birth of Chicago).

19 Some Celebs Sing Their Hired Help's Praises, Others, Like Madonna, Remain Silent

Jessica Alba has used her social media accounts as an opportunity to praise her nanny, and she has been open about her decision to have hired help. But other celeb moms, like Madonna, seem to prefer to be silent on the topic of hired help. According to News.com.au, one of Madonna’s former nannies was an Australian woman named Angela Jacobsen, who the publication notes worked for the pop star seven days a week, caring for her son, David Banda.

The publication notes that Jacobsen initially vented about her long work days on social media, and after she handed in her resignation she was dismissed. But she later had this to say about Madonna: "I think every job has tough moments but (they were) nothing out of the ordinary. I have had a fantastic time. This is amicable, there is [sic] no hard feelings on either side."

18 We Only Know Charlize Theron Has Nannies Because They’ve Spoken About What She’s Like

Charlize Theron is a mama to two children, who she adopted. Theron enjoys being a mother, but she is also not under any illusions, and in an interview with Elle (via E! News), she admitted that she can have bad days being a mom because it’s not easy — we hear you, girl.

“I have bad days. I make mistakes,” she admitted. But she doesn’t have to do it all on her own, and Theron told the publication she has help.

We also know this because her nanny has spoken about her. According to The Richest, one of the nannies gave an interview to Star magazine, telling the publication that Theron had unusual demands.

17 Apparently, Nannies For Suri Cruise Have To Sign Confidentiality Agreements

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were once one of Hollywood’s most popular couples, and even now, seven years after their divorce, there is still interest in what exactly went wrong in their marriage. They were married for six years, and before they even exchanged vows, Holmes had given birth to their daughter, Suri Cruise.

Not only did Suri have a nanny to help raise her, but according to Sydney Morning Herald, Cruise has legal stipulations, and basically the nanny has to sign a confidentiality agreement. The publication writes “his nannies can't even say who they work for…”

16 Kylie Jenner Started Out Wanting To Raise Stormi On Her Own, But Things Changed

The birth of Kylie Jenner’s daughter, Stormi Webster, was rather unexpected, both because she hid her pregnancy from fans (and this is a family that shares everything), and also because of how soon in her relationship with boyfriend, Travis Scott, the birth was. But, Jenner has risen to the challenge of motherhood and appears to be a doting, hands-on mom.

She also has help raising her daughter, although, according to a People magazine insider, she initially wanted to do it on her own, or lean on her family. “With the support and abilities she has to hire nannies and assistants, she’s been a really, really great mom,” the insider explained.

15 You Won’t See Tiffani Thiessen With Nannies Because She Leans On Her Extended Family Instead

Tiffani Thiessen is a little different to some of the entries on this list because she doesn’t pay people to help raise her children — she has two with husband, Brady Smith. Instead, she leans on her family as her support system.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Thiessen spoke about how it takes a village to raise children, or rather, it takes a lot of family help. "We've never had a nanny, but we have a lot of family help,” she said. “My mom traveled with us and lived with us in New York when I was shooting White Collar. She helped us with Harper and would go to set with me every day because I was nursing. The same when I had Holt; my mom or mother-in-law helped me with the baby and came to set every day…”

14 Jennifer Lopez Went Seven Months Without A Nanny And Then Changed Her Mind

Jennifer Lopez initially started to raise her twins, Max and Emme, without hired help, but things later changed. Her ex-husband, Marc Anthony, even gave a radio interview in 2008, informing fans that they wanted to raise their children on their own. He explained he got the “late shift,” adding, "We don’t have a nanny. It’s just me and Jennifer figuring it out. From 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., that’s my shift.”

Many people probably still think Lopez raises her kids on her own, but CafeMom notes that their decision to not have a nanny didn’t last, and, after seven months, Lopez decided to hire help.

13 Victoria Beckham Had A Nanny Who Needed To Keep Her Mouth Shut

Victoria Beckham and her husband David Beckham have four children, and they appear to be a very close family. Now that their children are getting older, the parents probably need less help raising them, but we do know that they have had nannies to help out because there is a story about why one of them decided to quit.

Abigail Gibson worked for the family, but BabyGaga’s 15 Celeb Nannies Tell Why They Quit article highlights how it didn’t work out because Gibson didn’t keep her mouth shut. Long story short, she was speaking to Beckham’s former beautician, turned enemy, and when Victoria asked her not to have any affiliation with the beautician, Gibson quit because she didn’t want to work under those circumstances.

12 Beyoncé And Jay Z Have A Team To Care For Their Beloved Tots

Beyoncé and Jay Z are considered a power couple. In addition to both being at the top of their professional game, they are also parents to three children; their daughter, Blue Ivy, and later twins, Sir and Rumi.

Out of all the celebrity families, they are also a couple that is mentioned most often in relation to having hired help, because it is thought that they have a team helping them raise their children — yet this is not something we have heard them discuss. "Blue Ivy and the twins have a team of nannies working for them," an Entertainment Tonight insider said. "They have people around the clock."

11 Angelina Jolie Has A Large Brood, So It’s Not Unexpected She Would Have Help

Angelina Jolie is a mom to six children, so it’s not exactly unexpected that she would need someone to help her out. Well, more than someone, because she apparently had two nannies, per kid, which would mean that the grand total of her children's’ hired help is 12 people (via BabyGaga). She is reported to have since cut down her hired help to one nanny per child.

The Hollywood Gossip also notes that Jolie (and her now ex-husband, Brad Pitt) have a lot of requirements for their nannies. This includes being fluent in at least two languages, the ability to travel extensively, and also hold a bachelor's degree.

10 Interestingly, Mariah Carey Admitted To Having Nannies When She Spoke About How Easy It Is To Fire Them

Mariah Carey has spoken about having nannies to help her care for her twins, Moroccan, and Monroe (who she shares with ex-husband, Nick Cannon). She is also clear that she will let them go if they bond too much with her kids, which she explained in a radio interview with Power 105.6 (via Hello!).

“Unfortunately I have to have nannies,” she said. “But I’m very hands on. I fire nannies like this [snapping her fingers].” The reason is that she has to make sure they don’t “try to make themselves more important in the baby’s mind than me.”

9 Liz Hurley Raised Her Son As A Solo Parent (With Some Hired Help Though)

Liz Hurley is a mom to just one son, Damian Hurley, whom she shares with businessman Steve Bing. He is a teenager now, so it’s unlikely that she needs anyone to help her out now, but when Damian was younger, Hurley made use of hired help.

Hurley shared her parenting advice with Elton John and his husband David Furnish, and Furnish spoke about their friend's parenting tips in an interview with Daily Mail. According to him, Hurley said that when her son was small, she would have to travel for shoots, and “she'd leave him at home with a nanny because it was kinder than upsetting his sleep patterns.”

8 Halle Berry Is Very Private, But She Is Known To Have Used Outside Help

Halle Berry is a celebrity mom who wants to protect her children, Nahla and Maceo, and keep them out of the public eye. For this reason, she is very private about her kids and doesn’t share photos of them on social media. With this in mind, perhaps it’s not all that unexpected that she wouldn’t want to talk about the hired help she uses to raise them. But she does have help, according to The Richest.

Although some celebrities are said to have strange demands and rules when it comes to caring for their children, it seems that Berry’s are pretty straightforward, and she doesn’t want nannies to show too much affection with her kids.

7 Rob Lowe And His Wife Hired Help And Then Regretted Their Decision

Rob Lowe and his wife, Sheryl Berkoff, hired a nanny named Jessica Gibson while living in London, England, but things didn’t work out between them and this is probably one of those cases when they wished they hadn’t hired a nanny at all. According to Reuters, the couple sued two former nannies and a chef, and one of these nannies was Gibson.

Apparently, Gibson was overly flirtatious and unprofessional with the male staff, and because of this, the couple decided to fire her. It was after this point, BabyGaga notes, that she filed a lawsuit against Lowe, accusing him of being unprofessional with her. The lawsuit later came to an end when it was found out that Gibson had apparently wanted $200 she thought was owed to her.

6 Turns Out Chrissy Teigen’s Help Comes In The Form Of Her Live-In Mom

Chrissy Teigen doesn’t have nannies, at least, not that we know of, but she does have help. Her help, however, comes in the form of her mom, who lives with her and John Legend.

Teigen has previously stated that she is able to do it all (like go on dates with her husband, and find time to put herself together) because she gets help from her mom. “My mom lives with us. I have hair and makeup people,” Teigen told Yahoo Style. “I’m not getting up and doing all this by myself. If I’m not being done for something, I’m not going anywhere. A lot of hands go into it. We have help.”

5 Ethan Hawke’s Nanny Wasn’t Really On The DL Because He Ended Up Marrying Her

Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman were once married, and they hired a nanny named Ryan Shawhughes to care for their two children. But things didn’t turn out the way Thurman would have hoped when she hired the nanny because one of the prerequisites, you'd imagine, would be not later marrying her ex-husband — it is noted by CafeMom that Hawke has said that the relationship began after the divorce.

According to Babble Top, Hawke and Shawhughes started a relationship and went on to get married and have two children of their own.

4 Turns Out, He Was Not The Only One, And Robin Williams Also Found Love With The Nanny (And Married Her)

Ethan Hawke is not the only man to have found love with his child's nanny, so too did Robin Williams. Williams and Valerie Valadi were married in 1978 (and remained married for 10 years), during the early stages of Williams acting life. The couple hired a nanny, Marsha Garces, to care for their son, Zachary, BabbleTop reports, but it didn’t work out, clearly, because Williams and Garces ended up in a relationship later on.

They were married in 1989, with their union lasting until 2008, when Garces filed for divorce, The Sun notes. Together they had two children, a daughter, Zelda, and later a son, Cody.

3 Despite Doing Much Of The Child Rearing, Julia Roberts Does Lean On Others

Considering how in demand Julia Roberts is, it’s not unexpected that she would need help to raise her children while flying from location to location, to film her latest project. Forbes notes that Roberts has spoken about needing help before, explaining that it takes a “village” to raise kids, including the help of her husband, friends, and some “amazing women.” So, unlike other celebrities out there, she has admitted that she’s not a superwoman who raises her three children all on her own. That said, she hasn’t often been photographed with her hired help in tow, and if you didn’t see her comments you may not have realized she had help at all.

Forbes notes that many celeb children are not photographed with their nannies, and photos of kids with nannies are not exactly big money makers.

2 Sarah Jessica Parker Has A Team Of Nannies, And She’s Quite Demanding

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick have been married since 1997, and together they share three children. “We don’t have any live-in help. We’re pretty hands-on parents,” Parker told Vogue. But that doesn’t mean the help don't work hard during the day.

According to TheTalko, the family has a nanny, and they’ve also had some problems with a nanny sharing too much information. A former nanny for the couple is believed to have shared emails that Parker sent to her and other staff members, which the publication notes didn’t paint the actress in the best light, and she appeared controlling.

1 Zoe Saldana Doesn’t Just Have One Nanny, She Has Two

Zoe Saldana is careful not to share too much of her children. In fact, after she and her husband Marco Perego had their twins, Cy Aridio and Bowie Ezio, in 2014, it was years before fans were able to see their faces on social media. Saldana spoke to E! News about why she didn’t want to share their faces, explaining it was for their privacy. She added, "Right now, they're not in the position to speak for themselves or make a decision…I don't want to make it for them."

She's doing a good job as a parent, but she couldn't do it without the help of her team. And, while you may not see photos of her kids often, least of all their nannies, Saldana is very honest about her need for help. “Our assistant, our nanny, and our housekeeper,” she told Yahoo of how she gets by. “They are literally raising our children with us. It’s because of them I am able to rip myself away as long as I can, and my husband as well, to do what we do. They’re teaching us how to manage our pain as they’re raising our kids with us.
