The Kardashians sure know a thing or two about child rearing!
For over 10 years, we’ve watched the family grow up and welcome new additions into their family. Momager Kris Jenner always had her hands full with her six now-adult children: Kourtney, Kim, Rob, and Khloe Kardashian, followed by Kylie and Kendall Jenner. Nowadays, most of her children have gone on to welcome kids of their own.
Kourtney and her former partner, Scott Disick, share three kids: sons 8-year-old Mason and 3-year-old Reign, and 5-year-old daughter Penelope. Kim and her husband Kanye West also have three children: 5-year-old North, 2-year-old Saint, and 3-month-old Chicago. Rob shares 1-and-a-half-year-old daughter Dream with his ex fiancée Blac Chyna. Khloe recently gave birth to her first child, daughter True, with her boyfriend Tristan Thompson earlier this year. Finally, Kylie also famously welcomed her first child, daughter Stormi, with her boyfriend Travis Scott several months before that.
Given how many kids are in this family, fans can expect the Kardashians have some good advice on how to handle all the craziness of parenting. Check out their 20 best pieces of advice that moms should totally take to heart!
The Kardashians are very active on social media! But Kim has surprisingly admitted to taking a step back, which includes not posting as much about her children, in order to protect their privacy.
“I try to share my life. I definitely love doing that, but I think I'm a little bit more cautious these days about what I do share," she said during an interview with The View following her terrifying Paris robbery. "I've learned through experience that things in real time I might change up a little bit.”
She continued, “I might take a photo, save it, post it when I leave the place or when I'm in a different location because I don't think that worked out for me so well when I was posting every last detail."
Many women get freaked out before they’re due to go into labour- but Khloe only has supportive and encouraging words for anyone stressing out about their due date!
“I don’t feel like I need to prepare for my birth by freaking myself out. I’ve seen over eight births live and in person,” the celebrity told People Magazine before welcoming her daughter, True, earlier this year. “Women were made to do this! It’s a very natural experience.”
She added, “I read my apps every day and I ask my doctor if I have any questions, so I’m honestly not that afraid. Of course I’m a little nervous to go into labor, but I’m trying to not overthink something that literally happens all the time.”
Kylie famously hid her pregnancy until after she gave birth to Stormi, which included a 6-month social media hiatus and limited public appearances. After giving birth, Kylie explained why she felt taking a step back from the spotlight was right for her and her daughter.
“I’m sorry for keeping your in the dark through all the assumptions,” she wrote in an Instagram post announcing Stormi’s birth. “I understand you’re used to me bringing you along on all my journeys. My pregnancy was one I chose not to do in front of the world.”
The young mom continued, “I knew for myself I needed to prepare for this role of a lifetime in the most positive, stress free, and healthy way I knew how. There was no gotcha moment, no big paid reveal I had planned. I knew my baby would feel every stress and every emotion so I chose to do it this way for my little life and out happiness.”
Out of all the Kardashian-Jenners, Kourtney has become the most famous for her love of all things organic and health-centric. That’s why no one was surprised when she admitted to making her own baby food.
“My mom bought me this amazing baby-food maker, the Beaba. I steam and puree fruits and vegetables, and they last for like four days,” she told Parenting Magazine after delivering her firstborn.
“Mason pretty much loves everything. I gave him red beets, and it got all over his face, which made the funniest picture,” she went on. “He also loves sweet potatoes, carrots, and yams. Sometimes I mix pureed peaches, pears, bananas, or apples with plain yogurt or an all-natural organic jelly. I have this great book called Super Baby Food that’s full of ideas. I should be on this Mason diet!”
Kris Jenner, the Momager and Matriarch of the Kardashian family, has spent most of her life raising kids. She has six children from her two marriages: Kourtney, Kim, Rob, and Khloe from her first marriage to Robert Kardashian, and Kendall and Kylie from her marriage to Caitlyn Jenner.
Despite her kids being all grown and having children of their own, Kris says that she is still there to support them, just in a different way. “I think at this point when your kids are in their 30s – Khloé, Kourtney and Kim, with those three I am more of a friend than a mom because they’re pretty much at this point telling me what to do,” she told People Magazine.
She added, “I don’t want to be that nasty mom all the time, griping and telling them what to do because I still want them to take care of me when I get really old.”
Nowadays, breastfeeding in public seems to be as controversial a topic as they come. Kim had a surprisingly neutral answer when asked about her stance- she thinks mom should do whatever they feel most comfortable with!
"I know some people find breastfeeding such a private, personal experience, while other people are very open and even breastfeed in public," she explained during a post on her app in January 2015, shortly after welcoming her only son Saint. "Now that I'm a mom, I say whatever makes you comfortable goes."
We totally think that moms should do whatever they’re comfortable with and is in the best interest of their kiddo!
Given their hectic work schedules and lavish lifestyles, many fans expect the Kardashians to use nannies 24/7. While all of them admit to having help in the child-rearing department, Kourtney says she does her best to make sure she’s watching her kids whenever she’s not working.
“If I’m not working, neither is the nanny,” she told Parenting Magazine. “I don’t want to judge, but I’ve also met women who think it’s cool to be out or away from their baby, and I don’t get that, either.”
Kourtney went on, “When I am out or away, that’s when I most want to be with Mason. I do have help when I’m working. It’s important to have one person I trust, so I know Mason is taken care of. But every time I am not working, he is with me.”
Kim has been open about the fact that her eldest daughter, North, 5, has had a hard time adjusting to being a big sister to Saint, 2, and Chicago, 7 months. But she had some wise words for how to help your kid transition to being a big sibling.
"We talk about baby brother all the time. She's so sweet and yesterday she said, ‘Mommy, can I give baby brother a kiss on your tummy?' and she kissed my stomach,” she told E! News while pregnant with son Saint.
“She's super sweet. She has a hard time when I hold other babies but she's been getting a little bit better and I'm hoping that with her brother it's a whole new experience,” the reality star added.
Despite her crazy work schedule, Kourtney has said time and time again that nothing is as important to her as her kids. Even if that means she risks looking unprofessional or unengaged, then so be it.
“Mason comes first, and if that makes me unprofessional at times, so be it,” she told Parenting Magazine after becoming a mom for the first time. “Especially during the first three months, I didn’t care if I was late. We were on his schedule. Nothing is more important than Mason.”
We love her approach to balancing work with motherhood! Kourtney is #Goals!
Though Kylie’s pregnancy was ultimately unplanned (she was only 20 at the time, and dating her daughter’s father for a matter of months), she says that pregnancy was an incredible, life-changing experience that she already misses.
“Pregnancy has been the most beautiful, empowering, and life changing experience I’ve had in my entire life and I’m actually going to miss it,” she wrote on Instagram when she announced Stormi’s birth. “I appreciate my friends and especially my family for helping me make this special moment as private as we could.”
The new mama also wrote, “My beautiful and healthy baby girl arrived February 1st and I just couldn’t wait to share this blessing. I’ve never felt love and happiness like this I could burst! Thank you for understanding.”
Given that their family is famous for showing off their entire life on reality TV, many fans expect that the Kardashian children have no choice when it comes to filming. But Kourtney is adamant that it’s their decision whether they want to film or not!
“I think it’s always changing, but what’s most important is knowing that they’re my priorities, no matter what’s happening — they always come first,” she once told People Magazine. “As far as filming in our homes, I think just making sure that they feel comfortable enough that they can walk in any room — even if we’re filming they don’t notice.”
She added, “I want it to always be a comfortable household … This is their home, and I’m always conscious of how they feel.”
Kim famously used a surrogate to carry her third child, daughter Chicago, due to the scary health complications she faced in her earlier two pregnancies. The celebrity was very open about the challenges of opting for surrogacy, including how conflicted she was over explaining everything to her two older kids.
"I have to figure that out first before they really see and then if we're celebrating, you know, her, I just want to celebrate the baby," she shared during an interview with The Real. "I think I have to explain it to my kids first and figure out how I'm going to explain it to them."
We love how open Kim was about her experiencing using a surrogate!
We all know that breastfeeding in public is a controversial topic- but so is when to stop breastfeeding, or to switch to formula!
Many parents have varying opinions about when is a good time to wean your child off of the boob, but Kourtney is of the opinion that it really depends on the mom and child.
“People always have something to say about how long is too long or not long enough to breastfeed,” she told People Magazine. “I think this is such a personal decision that it can only be made between each baby and his or her mommy.”
For years, Khloe always expressed a desire to start a family of her own. And, when it finally did happen for her, she was open about how life changing the experience was.
“[My pregnancy] puts so many things into perspective,” she told Ross King on the UK morning show Lorraine back in February. “I mean, people say that once you have a baby your life really begins and you’re going to realize everything you were doing was nonsense.”
“But honestly, I’m so happy that this is happening in my life right now,” Khloe went on. “I feel so ready … I feel the timing really is perfect and I do feel like, I mean, it’s going to be so exciting, everything that’s about to happen.”
Kim knows the importance of having a strong support system when you’re a mom!
The reality star says that motherhood has only brought her closer to her other famous friends who also have children- in particular, model Chrissy Teigen, who shares kids Luna and Theo with her musician husband, John Legend.
“I think we’ve gotten closer since becoming moms,” Kim told People Magazine about her friendship with Chrissy. “I feel like when you’re a mom and you feel like you’ve figured it out, you want to tell all your friends so they have the same experience.”
Though some parents think it’s an absolute necessity to have their kids on a strict, regular schedule, Kourtney admits she’s more go-with-the-flow.
“We don’t really follow a set schedule. I was struggling with that for a while, wondering what is the best thing,” she told Parenting Magazine. “I think you do whatever fits your lifestyle. Some people have things planned from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., which works for them.”
The star continued, “But honestly, the best thing for Mason is just to be with me. When we are out, we just have so much fun. If we are cruising around, and he is napping in the car, it’s not the worst thing in the world.”
Kim got a lot of hate both during and after her pregnancies for the way her body changed. But, rather than giving in to the negative attention, the celeb hasn’t been hesitant to post body-positive messages on social media and sultry pics showing off her post-baby body.
"First they said I'm too skinny so I have to be faking it...Now they say I'm too big so I have to be faking it...SMH!” she wrote on Instagram back in August 2015. “Some days I'm photographed before I eat & look smaller, some days I've just eaten & I look bigger. It's all a part of the process.”
She went on, "Everyone's body is different, every pregnancy is very different! I've learned to love my body at every stage! I'm going to get even bigger & that's beautiful too! I'm blessed to even be pregnant & even luckier to not have preeclampsia as far as I know.”
Tons of people say to follow your instinct when it comes to child rearing- and Kourtney K is one of them!
“I think motherhood is just about instinct,” the reality star told People Magazine after welcoming her first child, son Mason. “I remember coming home from the hospital and having no idea what we were doing. [Former boyfriend Scott Disick] and I changed his diaper together, but after a day, it was like ‘Oh! I got it.’”
Given that Kourtney is a mama of three- she has sons Mason, 8, and Reign, 3, and daughter Penelope, 5,- we’d say her advice is golden!
Many fans wondered how Kim’s life was going to change when she welcomed her first child back in 2013. The celeb has been vocal about the challenges of balancing child rearing alongside her bustling career, but she admits that motherhood has made her change her priorities for the better.
“Having my daughter is my biggest achievement. All the things you used to do, you just don't care about anymore. Your child becomes the #1 priority,” she wrote on Twitter back in February 2015. True to her words, the celebrity has become less prominent at red carpet events and is also less active on social media in terms of showing off her personal life.
Between filming for the family’s reality show, making public appearances, and dealing with brand sponsorships, Kourtney has a lot on her plate, as do the other mamas in the Kardashian family!
The celeb says that setting healthy boundaries between her work and personal life is what makes it possible for her to balance so much while raising three young kids. But, of course, she says her children always come first!
“Boundaries are crucial for a working mom. My children are my priority and always come first, which allows everything else to fall into place,” she told People Magazine. She’s a total Mom Boss!
