Trigger: Mention of death.
One family is currently in mourning over the senseless and tragic death of a young mom-to-be and her unborn child.
On the west side of Detroit, Michigan, a shooting that occurred this past Tuesday left a pregnant woman dead and a man injured. The woman has since been identified as 24-year-old Paris Strickland, though it hasn't been revealed just long far along she was in her pregnancy. But that hasn't stopped others from being devastated by her loss. Strickland's friends have since taken to social media to express their grief over her murder. Needless to say, no one saw this coming.
"I’m outraged by this and the loss of life right before the holidays," an anonymous neighbour revealed in an interview.
According to the Detroit Police Department, the shooting took place inside of a parked silver Chevrolet Malibu in the area of Fenkell and Artesian at about 7:30 PM local time. Strickland and her friend were just sitting in the vehicle when the shooting suddenly happened. Both were found with multiple gunshot wounds, though it's unclear just how many times they were each shot. Strickland died shortly after police arrived to the scene, as did her baby.
The unidentified 26-year-old man who had been accompanying Strickland when the shooting took place was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment. Fortunately for him, it appears as though he will make a full recovery from his injuries. It's been reported that one bullet that hit his leg went through and through- truly a terrifying injury that no one should ever have to go through.
With no active leads reported, the investigation into the shooting that killed Strickland continues. Anyone with information related to this case can contact Detroit police directly, or call Crime Stoppers at 1(800) SPEAK-UP. You can remain anonymous, and there's an undisclosed cash reward for giving information that leads to the capture or identification of the killer. Here's hoping that someone will come forward to identify the perpetrator sooner than later.
Our thoughts are with Strickland, her unborn baby and surviving family.
