Four year old saves himself and 6 other children after they were left in a hot car.
A young 4-year -old boy was left unattended in a hot car. He was also in the car with six other toddlers. The children all ranged from ages 2-4 years old. The kids had been in the hot car for quite some time and they were locked and they didn't know how to get out. They had a cellphone and the 4-year-old boy called 9-1-1 and told the dispatcher that they were stuck in a hot car and that they didn't know how to get out. He told the dispatcher that he had no idea where they were, but the officers were able to locate the car.
Once first responders arrived at the scene they noticed that there were seven children in total locked in the car. The youngest was 2 years old and the oldest was the boy who called for help. The officers said that when they had arrived they noticed that the kids were very sweaty and were clearly getting sick due to the heat. The temperature was about 80 degree outside and temperatures in cars can get up to 20 degrees warmer than outside. At the point when the responders arrived the kids had been in the car for over 20 minutes.
The officers figured out the children's caregiver had parked the car and rolled up the windows. She left the children unattended as she went into a nearby store to go shopping. After a little bit of investigating the officers found out that two of the children in the vehicle were the woman's kids and the other 5 were children she was babysitting. She was arrested at the scene.
The officers wanted to remind everybody that it is illegal to leave children in the car if they are 8 years old or younger unless they are there with a responsible child or adult (13 years or older). It is also reminded that temperatures in vehicles are drastically warmer than outside temperatures. Now that things are heating up outside it is important for parents to remember to not leave their children in the car and to double check that they aren't accidentally leaving any babies in cars.
Thankfully this little boy was a quick thinker and he was able to call 9-1-1. He most likely saved his own life along with the other 6 children in the vehicle.
