15 Best: Car Seat Cover and Nursing Cover
Moms are loving this multi-use cover. You can use it for a nursing cover, car seat cover, shopping cart cover, high chair & changing table cover, too. Plus, mom can even wear it as an infinity scarf. Its super soft material is ready to shield mom as she nurses or protect baby from germs and sunlight in a variety of places. One mom said, “This is such an awesome product. I love the multiple uses so you can use it for much longer. It was the best breastfeeding cover I ever used because it stayed in place and there was no accidentally flashing anyone. Since I've recently stopped breastfeeding, I can still use this for years to come to cover germy public high chairs and shopping carts...I definitely recommend this to all moms!!”
14 Best: Head And Body Support Pillow
It’s clear that not all head and body support pillows for baby’s car seats are made equally. But parents on Amazon seem to love this one by Lebogner. A head and body support pillow is perfect to make car seats more comfortable for newborns and infants. They add extra support for a newborn’s head and will help to keep it in place while in the car seat. One mom said, “This is great! I love the price and the quality is just as good. My son just started sitting in the stroller without the carrier and he needed a little cushion to keep him a bit more snug and make him more comfortable and this is just perfect! Super soft the head part comes off for when he is older and it's easy to switch in and out of stiller if you have more than one!”
13 Best: Car Seat Tray
Once baby gets a little older, a car seat tray will make your life easier. It helps the little one to keep toys, games or even hand held devices at hand. It gives them a place to set their items without dropping them to the floor or out of reach. There are several different kinds of car seat trays that are highly rated on Amazon. This 5 star rated product from BO Innovation have parents raving. One parent said, “Great product! I love this because I bought it for my two year old and he loved it too! It was such a perfect gadget when we had to drive down to visit my parents. Normally my two year old will be so needy in the car. With this travel tray, this he was busy with his own things!”
12 Best: Car Humidifier
The Rabbit Car Humidifier is perfect for keeping the air clean and baby comfortable in the car. This adorable car humidifier looks like a bunny too. It lets out a cool mist to keep the humidity in the car or nursery just right. It can double as a nightlight too. It’s simple and easy to use and won’t spill in the car. It’s so small it can fit in a cup holder or it can be used in the nursery. The lights change color. One mom said, “This rabbit humidifier is so adorable and tiny. Easy to use, works great in tight spaces and children’s room. The humidifier run for 4 hours at maximum setting, it’s short periods of time but that's exactly what i was looking for. Worth the money!”
11 Best: Eric Carle Neck Support Caterpillar
Parents are loving this Eric Carle caterpillar neck support pillow almost as much as they love The Very Hungry Caterpillar story. When paired together with the book, it makes a perfect gift. The neck support is great for car rides or trips in an airplane. It helps young children to sleep comfortably without their heads flopping all over the place. One parent said, “"Caterpillar" was given to my son as a birthday present on his first birthday. It has since become his best friend, pillow, constant companion, and security blanket. There is something so sweet about the very hungry caterpillar, and this stuffed animal/headrest captures it perfectly. He demands to bring it everywhere he goes. We got a second one so we could wash "caterpillar" every once in a while without causing major trauma. But "other caterpillar" was soon discovered and is now also a permanent fixture in my son's life."
10 Best: Sun Shade
The back seat of the car get SOO much more sun for some reason. The little ones will bake in the back seat without a good sun shade. Plus the sun can be blinding to them. When picking out a sun shade its important to know that they are not created equally. Some stick to the window much more easily others block out more UV rays. The 4 pack from Veneev blocks out 98% of UV rays and has been highly rated by parents. They can also be folded up to easily fit in the diaper bag. One dad said, “These work great! We are glad we purchased them. Our daughter was constantly being blinded by the sun and would cry a lot in the back seat, but these block the sun efficiently!”
9 Best: Small Travel First Aid Kit
You never know when your little one will suddenly need a little first aid. Accidents happen so quickly and there’s nothing worse than seeing your baby in pain. That’s why so many parents are raving about the Take Along First Aid Kit by Kid Joy. Its small and lightweight but has all of the essentials. Whether your at the park, grocery store or play group, you’ll have what you need to help your little one through bumps, falls and scrapes. This grandma said, “This little first aide kit is just perfect to keep in my jeep for outings with the grandkids! I only wish I had it a week ago when one of my grandsons fell and got a nasty boo boo on his knee at the park! I had nothing with me to patch him up with. This kit has everything you need including stickers to help cheer up a tearful little one! Next time I will be prepared!”
8 Best: Car Mirror
When baby is rear facing, its hard to tell if he’s doing okay or not. Especially for newborns and infants who don’t talk yet. A parent may worry that baby is in the sun, uncomfortable or having a problem when baby can’t be easily seen. That’s why a baby car mirror is needed. But don’t grab just any car mirror. It has to be the right one. Some fall off easily while others are too small. The Baby Backseat Mirror by Lusso has been getting rave reviews from parents on Amazon. It is the largest one made, attaches securely and is shatterproof in case of an accident. One mom of 7 said, “This mirror is an absolutely must have for any family with a rear facing infant or toddler! The large, convex viewing area provides a crystal clear view of everything you need to see. Previous mirrors we used distorted the reflection and were so tiny you could only see their face.”
7 Worst: Baby On Board Signs
The Baby On Board signs aren’t nearly as popular as they were a decade or two ago. I think this is for a couple reasons. No one really becomes a better driver because they see your baby on board sign. The second reason it might not be so popular is that it can be dangerous to advertise that you have a baby with you. Not that it isn't already obvious by the car seat in the back but a sign just makes it that much easier for crazy baby snatchers. The COOODI Kids and Dreambaby signs are especially unpopular on Amazon. Most parents complained that they didn’t stick but one said, “I just put it on my car and it basically melted. I only had it on for 1 day! It ended up all bent and does not look cute.... And it was in the sun maybe 20 minutes tops!”
6 Worst: Portable Emergency Potty Cup
When a child starts potty training, no parent wants to have an accident in the car. It will make a mess of the child’s clothes and car seat in no time.Potty training diapers or underwear can be used in case of an emergency or a cover over the car seat to help protect it from getting wet. Pulling over on the side of the road for an emergency potty break or having a back up potty in the car can be great too. But what if your somewhere that the child can’t get out of the car? A product called the potty cup has been created for these situations. Few parents have actually rated it on Amazon though. The cup looks similar to a child’s drink cup so be careful! I’m wondering how you would clean this out….please...no dishwasher! Yuck! This potty cup takes potty training to a place it shouldn’t go and that’s why it ranks as one of the worst products for the car.
5 Worst: Flat Head Hat
No one wants their baby to have a flat head. With the baby sleeping on its back being the doctor-recommended position it happens more and more frequently. It's no wonder why someone would want to create a product to help with the problem. It seems, though, that the solution isn’t with a flat head hat. This hat comes with a pad on the back to act as a pillow for baby or to keep the baby from sleeping directly on the back of her head. There are different varieties but the KAKIBLIN brand is the worst rated on Amazon. A parent complained that this brand was too small for a 4 month old. Other brands have parents complaining that the hat doesn’t actually stay on. If you don’t want your baby to have a flat head, don’t leave her in the swing or rocker so much. Using a wrap or carrier throughout the day will give the back of baby’s head a break and keep it from becoming too flat.
4 Worst: Summer Seat Cover
The car can get so hot so quickly in the summer. It can take a while for baby’s car seat to cool down enough to put baby in. That’s why some parents opt for special seat covers that will help to keep the seats cooler in the summer. Some are reflective and are put on the seat once baby is out of the car seat. Others are made to stay fitted over the car seat in fabric that won’t get as hot as the typical black car seat. But buyer beware. Some of these covers are made for car seats that aren’t even sold in the US. The Britax Summer Cover Evolva can be found on the California Amazon website but the car seat isn’t approved for use in the United States.
3 Worst: Window Baby Decal
Parents have been loving the family decals for the back of their vehicles for the last decade or so. It's a soccer mom’s badge of honor that say she really does have a troop of little people she’s responsible for. More recently, warnings have been in the news that these cute little decals actually alert child predators to just how many victims they might find in that van. Other than that scary idea, the decal companies might not always create the adorable picture you were hoping for. Make sure to check out the reviews of a company before making this seemingly simple purchase. One parent was unhappy with the work from Oliver’s Labels saying, “Well, it showed up. That's about it tho. Even with a little dialogue with the other end, they couldn't get the color right? I just needed a white decal, but I was sent something resembling a cream yellowish orange. For the amount paid, the time it took. Not worth it. Etsy is your best bet if your considering anything in the future.”
2 Worst: Seat Belt Adjuster
When kids get old enough to use a booster seat, sometimes the seat belt can be a problem. It can fit the child’s small body incorrectly and be uncomfortable or unsafe. That’s why some companies make special seat belt adjusters for kids. While some of these products work to make the ride more pleasant for the kiddos, others might just fall apart. The KYC 2 pack of car safety kids seat belt adjusters apparently do just that. Getting only a 1 star rating because the product broke. Other brands seem to make a more sturdy and comfortable product. Although a lot of these products didn’t have lots of parents weighing in as to how good they were. Make sure to check out what other parents have to say before deciding on which brand to buy on Amazon.
1 Worst: Rachel Zoe Jet Set Car Seat
Car seats can be a big investment so taking the time to find one that you’ll love is important. The problem is that it can get confusing when you start combing through safety ratings and reviews. There’s a lot of information on car seats. One thing most parents don’t even consider when buying a car seat is how easy it will actually be to use on a daily basis. One mom found this out the hard way. She purchased a Rachel Zoe Jet Set special edition car seat with a price tag of $399.99. Unfortunately after trying it out she said, “This car seat is SO cute i ordered it despite the reviews on the straps being tangled messes. Waste of money, ended up putting it in storage and buying a new on. Especially if you live in cold weather where it’s a pain as it is to get her baby in and out, the straps are a NIGHTMARE.”
