7 Low Blood Pressure

Often during the first trimester of pregnancy a woman’s blood pressure is quite low, that’s why you can feel the lack of energy. In the first months, the blood pressure won’t change much, but can get a little lower. When this happens, women feel sleepy, get vertigo or get tired quickly. Sometimes you can feel vertigo while lying on your back, because the rhythm of your heart slows down and the blood pressure decreases.

How can you fight vertigo?

Take a cold shower, eat a balanced diet and walk in the fresh air, avoid stuffy, hot rooms. Try to take a warm – not hot – shower. The same goes for the bath. If you feel that it’s gonna be stuffy, open a window or door.

Keep the appropriate amount of sugar in your blood, eat often, but small portions. During the pregnancy period it’s a better choice than eating three huge meals a day. Don’t miss breakfast, lunch or dinner. If your doctor recommends you to take iron supplements and vitamins, be sure to take them daily. Try to sleep on your side. The best solution is to sleep on your left side, but it’s ok to sleep on your right one too. If you feel vertigo while lying down, change the position – lie on another side or just try to sit down for a little. 

2  Insomnia

Insomnia can strike during the first and last months of pregnancy. In the beginning of pregnancy, the balance of hormones’ and body changes cause sleeplessness. You might want one more hour of sleep at night than usual, but you’ll still awaken feeling tired. In the first trimester, you can feel the tiredness and sleeplessness without any reason. 

So, try to rest more and sleep as much as you like, avoid overworking, and lie down to relax during the daytime. Besides, the stomach acid increases and it’s not very comfortable as well.

The second trimester is more favorable for pregnant women since most pregnancy symptoms no longer plague them, but the sleeplessness can occur again in third trimester. The growing belly presses the diaphragm causing a shortness of breathe, and it’s difficult to lie on the back or while lying down period. The baby’s movements, cramped legs and of course, when the growing womb pushes on the bladder and you have to pee more often in the night, also disturb your sleep.

More often, the causes of insomnia are physiological reasons related to the pregnancy. Negative emotions can influence your sleeping as well. You may want to see a psychiatrist or specialist to help you with your feelings if they constantly cause you a disturbed night’s sleep. During the gestation period most women have a lack of iron and folic acid, and that’s why they feel tired, pant and look pale. If you notice these symptoms, talk to your doctor. He will recommend that you take supplements with iron and folic acid.

You should do blood tests regularly. If it shows that you have anemia, taking these supplements should set you straight. Try to eat regular healthy meals, eat more green-leaf vegetables, spinach, lentils, white beans, dried fruits, eggs, a little bit dark chocolate, chicories, cheese and avocados.
