In Edmonton Alberta, a 12 year old boy received something that changed his life, a new birth certificate. Wren Kauffman was given a new birth certificate during Pride.

What is so special about this birth certificate? The gender on it was changed from "F" to "M." He had filed a complaint about not being able to change the gender on his birth certificate with the Alberta Human Rights Commission because it was said that the person must have reassignment surgery before opting to a new birth certificate. Because of this young man, the law requiring the surgery will be dropped. He said that being listed as a female was a huge stress, especially on the shoulders of a 12 year old who is not of legal age for the surgery.

The law will now only require a note from a doctor or psychologist to confirm and testify to the person's "gender identity." other provinces are also being asked to reconsider this law including: British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Above is a video about Wren Kauffman.
