Amanda Seyfried welcomed her second child over a year ago, but only now is the actress discussing her scary delivery experience.

The mother-of-two opened up to PEOPLE Magazine at the A Mouthful of Air New York City screening, which was held at the Roxy Hotel last Sunday. Amanda said things “went wrong” quickly when she was preparing to give birth to her son, Thomas.

Although Amanda didn't provide many details, she did insinuate that the difficulties could’ve been avoided if different choices were made.

"I had something that went wrong with my second birth. The baby was okay, but it was tricky, and it was painful and it didn't have to happen, and it did so it added an extra level of trauma," she told the outlet.

She said that she was going to the doctor’s every week towards the end of her pregnancy and she became overwhelmed by all the medical bills that began piling up, saying, “All of sudden it's like, 'Bye, here's some hospital bills!' I mean, I kept receiving them and I'm still healing from something."

The complicated delivery caused her spinal issues, which made caring for a newborn while she recovered tricky. After being asked how she adjusted to two children, Amanda replied, “You just do.” She added she was lucky she could share the child-rearing responsibilities with her husband, and that she had a strong support system to help, too.

Luckily, however, Amanda says both she and her family are doing well following the traumatic delivery. "I'm okay. It was a very physical thing and it was a spinal thing, but I'm okay,” she said.

Amanda declined to reveal she was pregnant last year while expecting her son. She and her husband, Thomas Sadoski, waited until after their son’s arrival to confirm his birth in September 2020. At the time, they released a statement to INARA and War Child USA, which were then shared on the organization's social media channels.

"Since the birth of our daughter 3 years ago our commitment to the innocent children that are so brutally affected by conflict and war has been a driving force in our lives," Amanda and Thomas said at the time.

The couple also shared the first image of their baby boy alongside the statement. Since then, the notoriously private parents have declined to share any images featuring their children’s faces.

Amanda became a first-time mother in 2017 when she gave birth to their daughter, Nina. The pair married in a private ceremony shortly before their daughter’s birth. Thomas and Amanda originally met while filming The Last Word together before getting engaged in early 2016.

Amanda also opened up about postpartum depression while speaking to PEOPLE. She admitted to being worried she would develop it after her first pregnancy, so she began CBT therapy while pregnant, which she believes helped her avoid PPD.

As for her second pregnancy, Amanda said she was on medication that helped fight off depressive symptoms before they occurred. She considers herself “really lucky” to have avoided a postpartum depression diagnosis, Entertainment Tonight reports.
