Teen Mom star Amber Portwood’s Fourth of July definitely didn’t end as planned because, according to reports, the reality star has been arrested after assaulting her boyfriend in front of their 1-year old son.

Fans of the hit MTV show know that Amber has been dating Andrew Glennon, whom she met on the set of Couples Therapy (which she was attending with her ex-boyfriend), since 2017. The couple welcomed their first child together, son James, last year. While the couple seems happily in love on Teen Mom, clearly things have been getting tense behind-the-scenes.

Radar Online  was the first to break the news that Amber had been picked up for domestic battery. According to the publication, authorities were called to the star’s home early Friday morning around 3 a.m. over a domestic disturbance. Amber allegedly assaulted Andrew while he had their 1-year old in his arms. As a result, the celebrity has been charged with a Level 6 domestic battery charge with a child under the age of 16 present.

“Officers spoke to the male victim, who stated his live-in-girlfriend and he were having a disagreement,” a police spokesperson told Radar. “During which time the female, later identified as Amber Portwood, assaulted him, while he was holding their 1-year-old child.” Child Protective Services has also gotten involved because the toddler was present at the time of the assault.

What’s even more surprising about this turn of events is that Amber faced near-identical charges a decade ago when she assaulted her then-boyfriend Gary Shirley, whom she shares her 10-year old daughter Leah with. Leah had even been in Gary’s arm at the time. The prior arrest landed Amber in jail for 17 months and she also lost custody of her daughter, whom she now only has visitation rights over. Amber later revealed substance abuse was to blame for her behaviour.

Amber isn’t the only Teen Mom star to have legal trouble recent. Former Teen Mom 2 stars Jenelle Evans and David Eason have had an ongoing custody battle over their children for the past seven weeks. They were stripped of custody after David allegedly shot and killed the family’s French bulldog. However, just a few days ago, the court case was dismissed, and the parents have regained custody of their kids. There’s no word on how Amber’s legal troubles will affect her custody or whether she and Andrew are still officially together.

The Ashley reports that, according to court records, Amber is still behind bars in county jail. Her next hearing is scheduled for July 8th.
