Australian Man Charged In Child Sex Case That Resulted In Newborn's Death 25 Years Ago

Trigger: Mention of child sex crimes and child death.

A cold case is an unsolved case that remains open and is waiting for new evidence to heat it up again. It could be a new witness, evidence or an anonymous tip that changes everything. But until that happens, the family of the victim is left wondering if justice will actually come. It's an agonizing ordeal that no one should ever have to go through.

But over in Queensland, Australia, one cold case has finally been solved once and for all. A man has finally been arrested for child sex crimes that occurred 25 years ago. The unidentified man is 55 years old, and police say that his crimes resulted in the death of a newborn baby back in 1995.

According to police, the man sexually assaulted an unidentified 13-year-old girl in Kambalda, Western Australia. The sexual assault caused the victim to get pregnant, and she later gave birth to a boy in the summer of 1995. On July 12th, 1995, the baby boy's lifeless body was discovered by a cleaner in a caravan park toilet in a small town called Kalgoorlie. But this instance of sexual assault wasn't the only time it happened between the man and the teenage girl.

"It will be alleged the man, who was known to the victim at the time, sexually assaulted the then-13-year-old girl, resulting in the baby being conceived. It will be further alleged the man engaged in unlawful sexual conduct with the victim over a number of years when the victim was aged between 11-years-old and 16-years-old," police explained.

The mother of the baby is now 38 years old. She's been arrested and charged with wilful murder. She was extradited to Western Australia and appeared in Perth Children's Court. She managed to make bail, allowing her to return to her home in Victoria and reside there during court proceedings.

As for the man responsible, he was arrested by Western Australia detectives from the Cold Case Homicide Squad. He's been charged with two counts of sexual penetration of a child under 13, sexual penetration of a child over 13 and under 16, two counts of sexually penetrating a child over 16 under their authority and having a sexual relationship with a child under the age of 16. It's unknown what will happen to him next, but there's hope that justice will be served for the sake of this senselessly murdered baby.
