It's been almost a year since Christian Harris died while serving in Afghanistan. Army Spc. Christopher Harris was killed in action when a suicide bomber detonated near to him on August 2nd, 2017. He left behind his wife, Brittany, who was six weeks pregnant with Christian - their first child together. Now, in a touching tribute to the dad she will never meet, baby Harris has been photographed with her father's unit.

26-year-old Brittany told People that she was in tatters after the death of her husband, finding it difficult to look after herself when all she really wanted to do was lay in bed and cry. "I made myself get up and keep going to make sure my pregnancy was healthy," she explained. It was the impending arrival of her daughter that compelled her to move forward. Despite knowing that she had to get on with her life, Brittany wanted to keep the memory of her late husband alive, honoring Chris throughout her pregnancy.

In October of last year she enlisted the help of Chris' unit for the gender reveal, arming them all with a different weapon than they're used to - confetti canons. In a video uploaded to YouTube, the soldiers pay tribute to their fallen comrade and explode the canons in a shower of pink confetti, to cheers and applause. After the arrival of baby Christian, it only seemed fitting that since her daddy couldn't hold her, his brothers in arms did.

The emotional photoshoot by Pinehurst Photography shows the newborn wearing a "My Daddy's My Hero" onesie as she's held in the hands of soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division, all suited and booted in their dress uniforms. The soldiers came together at Cape Fear Botanical Garden to show their support for the newest member of the family, which also gave them time to remember Chris.

While the experience has been trying for Brittany, she said that it has taught her how to stay strong in the worst of situations. She also had some sage advice for other women in her position, urging them to keep going despite how impossible it may seem.
