A little baby boy thought that being born in a labor unit was way overrated. He decided to come into this world on the way to the hospital, instead. He was born on the side of the road while his mother was being rushed to the hospital.
Like most mothers, Courtney Schmidt had her birth all planned out. She decided that she was going to wait until her water broke, have her husband drive her to the hospital, and then she would deliver her new baby boy in the care of a licensed doctor. Her water broke and her husband started driving her to the hospital, but that was when her birth plan went completely out the window.
Schmidt did not make it to the hospital, because her labor just went way too fast. Her husband wasn't able to get her there in time. The couple had to pull over to the side of the road and her husband had to deliver their new little baby. Lincoln Izaiah decided he wanted to be born in the great outdoors.
Schmidt said in an interview that everything just happened so fast. She could feel the baby coming out and she felt like she wasn't going to make it. She turned to her husband and said, "You’re going to have to pull over and deliver him." Her husband panicked at the thought and said, "No, we can make it. I promise we can make it!" He started driving even faster, but then all of a sudden the car just stopped working.
She first told her husband to call 9-1-1 and then realized that they didn't have time to wait for help. Beau Sholar, the father of the child, decided that it was time for him to step in and deliver the baby. He ran around the car and decided to catch the baby like a football. He delivered little Lincoln right as firefighters showed up. They took over from there. Schmidt continually asked if her baby was okay. One of the firefighters reassured them by saying, "I got this. I got you. Ain’t nothing gonna happen while I’m here with you." Little Lincoln turned out to be a perfectly healthy 8 lb baby boy.
Although Schmidt's delivery did not go exactly as she planned, she is still so happy. She says that her baby and her story are simply perfect. Congratulations to this little family on their newest addition!
