Baby Found On An Atlanta Doorstep Only 5 Hours After Being Born

The Atlanta police have found a five-hour-old infant abandoned on a doorstep. The idea of someone leaving their baby just moments after they gave birth is quite distressing. Whoever did that must be going through a lot because a mom doesn’t just abandon her baby that quickly.

There are many reasons why a woman may choose to give up their baby. Sometimes, they cannot financially afford to raise the child well, so they make the hard decision of giving them to a family who can provide everything. Another possible reason is they don’t want to start a family with whoever the father is. No matter what the motivation is, abandoning a child is an emotionally heavy decision to make, so for this person to choose to do so just hours after the baby was born is quite unsettling.

The police found a five-hour-old baby girl on someone’s doorstep at 1 a.m. Someone inside the house heard a baby crying, and they opened the door to find the infant just left there outside their door. Immediately, the concerned homeowner called the police to get the baby to safety. She was taken to the Grady Memorial Hospital, where doctors assessed her and made sure that she’s still healthy. Thankfully, she was still in a good condition when she was found.

Authorities are currently looking for the mother. Captain William Ricker has stated, however, that there are many challenges to overcome when it comes to this manhunt. Someone was so distraught and left their baby just hours after she was born, so there could be many complications to the case. It could also be that the child was stolen, and someone else left her on the doorstep.

According to the state law, parents are allowed to surrender their babies without facing criminal charges. It was expanded in 2017 to add a clause that parents have up to 30 days from the baby’s birth to give them away. This means that when police find the mother of the baby girl, she may not face any criminal charges. However, things may change depending on the truth uncovered by investigators.
