After officializing his divorce from Jennifer Garner in 2018, Ben Affleck is now getting used to being a single father-of-three. And it sounds like it’s leaving him exhausted!
The actor’s younger brother Casey Affleck recently called him out for falling asleep whenever their kids get together for playdates. “What we do when we get together, I guess is, like … the kids will all play and Ben falls asleep,” Casey told Us Weekly. This is despite the fact that it sounds like the brothers’ sons have a tendency to get a bit rough with each other.
“When [Ben’s son Samuel] gets together with my boys, he just immediately … attacks them. I think he’s dying to roughhouse,” Casey continued.
Casey shares two sons- 15-year old Indiana and 11-year old Atticus- with his ex-wife Summer Phoenix. The couple were married from 2006 to 2017. Ben and Jennifer, who were together from 2005 to 2018, have two daughters and a son: 13-year old Violet, 10-year old Seraphina, and 7-year old Samuel.
Nonetheless, Ben’s tendency to doze off hasn’t gotten in the way of his relationship with his brother. In fact, Casey went on to say he hopes his boys have just as good a relationship with each other and their cousins as he does with his own brother. He said that having parents with busy work schedules is what brought them closer.
“We kind of only had each other growing up,” Casey explained. “My dad wasn’t around and my mom worked really early mornings until the evening, so we kind of were together in childhood and shared all that time and all those experiences. He added, “I try to let them see those types of things and not just be like, ‘Hey look. Ben and I are great friends. You guys should be great friends too.’”
Ben has infamously been struggling with a gambling addiction and substance usage in his personal life, which many speculate is one thing that may have contributed to his split from Jen. Just last August, the famed actor checked into a treatment facility with the help of his ex-wife. He had previously gone to treatment in 2017, although his first stint took place before he started to date Jen in 2001.
Despite his brother’s struggles, Casey added that he’s an excellent role model for his sons. “I really want to sort of let them see what it’s all about,” he explained. “And I think Ben is a really great role model for them and the way an uncle should be.” The actor also had sweet words for his former sister-in-law. “Jennifer has been amazing as well. She’s just the perfect aunt,” he said.
