Actress Gwyneth Paltrow is known for her roles in flicks like The Avengers and Iron Man. In recent years, she’s also become known for her health-conscious website Goop as well as the slew of cookbooks she’s released. But aside from her professional accomplishments, the celeb is also a mom to 14-year-old Apple and 12-year-old Moses, whom she shares with her ex-husband Chris Martin. Gwyneth and Chris separated in 2016 after 13 years of marriage, but Gwyn walked down the aisle for a second time last year when she married Brad Falchuk.

Beyonce is another equally famous mother. The Grammy Award-winning entertainer has three children: 7-year old Blue Ivy and 1-year old twins Rumi and Sir. Queen Bey has been married to Jay-Z since 2008, though they were together for a decade before that. These two haven’t let parenthood slow down their professional successes. It definitely helps that the media is obsessed with catching them and their kids’ every moves.

But just because they’re celebrities doesn’t mean that Beyonce and Gwyneth parent the same! In fact, these two have a lot of differences when it comes to their parenting styles, from Gwyn’s decision to put a hold on her work to be there for her kids to Bey’s army of nannies who help bring the kiddos on the road with her. Keep reading to learn more about these famous mamas.

20 Gwyn Admits She’s Short-Tempered With The Kids

We could never imagine Gwyneth getting angry, not when she’s known for her self-help advice and positivity (mixed in with her recommendations for $100 face masks). But the celeb has admitted she took on too much when she first became a mom. It led to her over working herself, which made her lash out at her kids in response.

“When my kids were younger, I put them first to the point where I exhausted myself,” the actress told People. “It led to me being short-tempered. I thought, ‘What if I gave myself permission to take a 20-minute nap and let them be on their iPads and not beat myself up?’”

19 Bey Let Blue Bid $19,000 In An Auction

Blue Ivy may have only been 6 years old, but Beyonce and Jay-Z had no problem with their kiddo bidding a hefty sum during the 2018 Wearable Art Gala last year, which was organized by Bey’s mom and stepfather.

The celebrity child first raised eyebrows when she initially bid $17,000 for an acrylic portrait. When the price went higher, Blue raised her hand and offered $19,000, which is when Jay-Z was photographed raising his hand to try and stop her from bidding further.

In the end, Tyler Perry bid $20,000 and went home with the artwork. But Bey is said to have bought $17,000 worth of earrings that evening, so it’s not like the Carters went home empty-handed.

18 Gwyn Says Her Son Makes Her Feel Insecure

Gwyneth says her youngest child, son Moses, relates the most to her since they’re so alike. But while most parents would consider it a positive quality, Gwyn has described it as ‘triggering’ and that she has to think before she speaks with him.

“Mosey and I are so similar in a lot of ways, and we have the same bad qualities, so sometimes I find it really triggering with him,” Gwyneth said on her Goop podcast this past summer of her 12-year old. “And I always have to think, ‘Okay, try to put a pause in between what you’re feeling and what you’re going to do or say next.'”

17 Beyonce's Raising Her Kids Free Of Gender Stereotypes

Fans couldn’t stop praising Beyonce when she announced last year that she’s raising her three children to challenge gender norms, and that she’s fine with whoever her children end up wanting to be.

Of her girls, Beyonce explained to Vogue, "They don’t have to be a certain type or fit into a specific category. [...] They can explore any religion, fall in love with any race, and love who they want to love.”

As for son Sir, the singer said, “I want him to know that he can be strong and brave, but that he can also be sensitive and kind. I want my son to have a high emotional IQ where he is free to be caring, truthful, and honest.”

16 Gwyneth Doesn’t Let Her Kids Eat Carbs

Gwyneth is known for her health-centric advice, so it’s no surprise that the actress keeps her family on a strict eating plan, which absolutely forbids gluten. Hopefully her kids aren’t big pizza lovers!

“Every ... nutritionist, doctor and health-conscious person I have ever come across […] seems to concur that (gluten) is tough on the system and many of us are at best intolerant of it and at [sometimes] allergic to it,” she wrote in her cookbook Make You Look Good. “Sometimes when my family is not eating pasta, bread or processed grains … we’re left with that specific hunger that comes with avoiding carbs.”

15 Beyonce Has A Private Chef For The Kids

It turns out the Carters have employed a lot of staff for their kids!

In addition to their slew of nannies, Beyonce and Jay-Z also have a full-time chef responsible for preparing meals for their kids. At the moment, that probably only means Blue Ivy, but in the future, it will likely include her baby siblings.

“Aside from Blue’s bevy of teachers, who instruct the tot in French, Swahili, art and ballet, Bey’s hired a personal chef to cater to her picky appetite,” a source told Star magazine. “[They cook] whole-wheat pasta in the shape of ballerinas with pureed organic asparagus and vitamin-infused cheddar cheese.”

14 Gwyneth Thinks Being An Actress Makes Parenting Tougher

Many fans assume that being a celebrity would make parenting a bit easier. After all, you have the money to hire help if you want as well as access top-notch resources, like fancy baby gadgets and top medical care. However, Gwyneth has said that she believes being an actor actually makes parenting a lot more difficult.

"I think it's different when you have an office job, because it's routine and, you know, you can do all the stuff in the morning and then you come home in the evening," she told E! News in 2014.

"When you're shooting a movie, they're like, 'We need you to go to Wisconsin for two weeks,' and then you work 14 hours a day and that part of it is very difficult,” Gwyn continued. “I think to have a regular job and be a mom is not as, of course there are challenges, but it's not like being on set."

13 Beyonce Employs A “Team” Of Nannies

Beyonce and Jay-Z were prepping for their On The Run Tour II when their twins were only 9 months old, so it’s no surprise they needed a bit of help as they prepared to hit the road. But it sounds like the parents called in a whole army for back-up. Well, an army of nannies, that is.

Blue Ivy and the twins have a team of nannies working for them," an insider told Entertainment Tonight, saying they usually have around 4-6 nannies employed at once. "They have people around the clock."

Hey, most parents can barely survive if one parent goes on tour or away for work. So good on Bey and Jay for making things work for their family!

12 Gwyn Dealt With PPD

More and more celebrities are becoming open about their struggles with PPD. Even though Gwyneth had both of her kids well over a decade ago, the star just admitted last year that PPD was something she dealt with, too.

"I had [very bad] postnatal depression, which I think was really [surprising] to me because I never thought that I would be a person who got postnatal depression," the celeb said in 2018. "I was so euphoric when Apple was born, and I assumed that would happen with Mosey, and it took a while. I really went into a dark place."

11 Bey’s Not Afraid To Breastfeed In Public

Whether to breastfeed in public or not seems like the topic of the century when it comes to parenting controversies. But Beyonce let the world know where she stands on this issue after she gave birth to Blue Ivy.

Multiple photographs were published in the year after Blue’s arrival showing the mama feeding her baby in public. The celeb seemed to have no problem getting things going in the outdoors, and that’s awesome so long as she felt comfortable and her baby was getting what she needed.

While no photos have surfaced showing Beyonce doing the same for her twins, we wouldn’t take that to mean anything considering there are hardly any photos of Rumi and Sir floating around at the moment.

10 Gwyneth Makes Co-Parenting A Priority

Gwyneth received backlash for the way she announced her divorce from Chris Martin, particularly over her usage of the language “consciously uncoupling.” Fans were curious to see how the longtime lovers would handle co-parenting, and from the looks of it, they’ve been doing extremely well.

"It's been hard, and we've gone through really difficult times, but we've always said these children are our priority,” Gwyneth told Mom.me.“What that really means is, even though today you [don't like] me and you never want to see me again, we're going to brunch because it's Sunday and that's what we're going to do."

9 Bey's Eldest Daughter Has A Stylist And Personal Shopper

The Internet went crazy last summer when the news broke that 6-year old Blue Ivy already has her own stylist and personal shopper!

Bey’s representative confirmed to Women’s Wear Daily that Blue has a team that curates what she wears on the red carpet alongside her parents - remember when she wore a thousand-dollar gold gown? Casual. Blue evidently works mainly with Manuel A. Mendez, who’s employed by Beyonce’s management company, Parkwood Entertainment.

He coordinated the tuxedo pantsuit Blue wore to the 2018 Grammy’s where she made headlines for shushing her parents during Camilla Cabello’s speech.

8 Gwyneth Goes On Vacation With Her Ex-Hubby And Kids

Gwyn and Chris truly seem like they have this co-parenting thing down. Not only have they spent the holidays together with their kids, but they’ve even gone on international vacations, proving there’s no animosity between these two exes.

“Chris is always welcome at my house and I at his. We go on holidays together – it’s all very relaxed,” Gwyneth explained to People about her relationship with her ex. “I realize it sounds a bit corny, but it really is an amazing philosophy on how to separate. I have seen so much lasting damage caused by [bad] vitriol and un-contained emotion in divorces.” We wonder if they’ll be going on any more vacations together now that Gwyneth is re-married!

7 Beyonce Regularly Picks Her Kids Up From School

Despite being one of the famous entertainers on the planet, Beyonce still ensures she does regular mother-daughter stuff with Blue Ivy, including picking her up from school. A while back, a source dished that the singer tries to pick up her 6-year old as often as she can. So much for that team of nannies!

“Beyonce does drop off and pick-up like all the other parents and doesn’t miss a school function,” the source said to Hollywood Life. “She knows how much the public is interested in her life, so it’s no surprise she shows little glimpses here and there, but don’t expect to see much more.

6 Gwyn Cuddles With Her Kids Every Night

One of Gwyneth’s family traditions is to always spend time with her kids during the evenings. And even those both of them are teens now, she says they still have family cuddles, proving you’re never too old to hug your mom!

“I would say honestly every day what I do for my health is make sure that I really connect and hug my children. And lie with them at night,” Gwyneth told People in 2017. “Nothing fills me up more. They say that if you strengthen and amplify your family and love connections, it’s the best thing for your health, so I always try to make sure that I do that every day. It’s not hard — they’re pretty cute!”

5 Beyonce Performs At Her Kids’ School For Charity

While typical moms might bake cookies for the bake sale to raise funds for their kids’ school, Beyonce has a different approach to fundraising.

The singer made headlines in 2016 when she casually performed at her then-4-year-old daughter’s elementary school as part of a fundraising event. The celeb went full-out with back-up dancers, a shimmery outfit, and by belting out her classic hits like “Crazy In Love” and “Halo.”

The performance was evidently kept a surprise until the event and those who got to witness it went crazy over social media.

4 Gwyneth's Careful About Her Kids And Social Media

Gwyneth has lived most of her adult life in the spotlight, so it’s no wonder the star has a keen sense of the dangers of the Internet and media. That’s why she says she’s been extra careful when introducing her kids to electronics and social media.

"They have iPads, and my daughter is furious that I haven't gotten her a phone yet. I don't want to get her [a phone]! That's too young!” She told Mom.me in 2015. “She tells me 'this friend has it and this friend has it' — and I'm like, 'you're 11!' She has a private [social media] account and I don't particularly love it, but I don't know! This is the world we're in."

"I tell [the kids] that some people in the world are [not good], you gotta be a little careful. Internet safety is a huge thing for any parent — it completely freaks me out,” Gwyneth added.

3 Beyonce Wants To Keep Her Kids’ Lives As Private As Possible

You’ll notice that Beyonce doesn’t post a lot of photos of her family on social media and neither does she like being photographed with her children, especially when they’re young. Both Jay-Z and Bey go the extra mile when it comes to protecting their privacy, which is why there’s only been a handful of photos of the twins released since their birth.

“Beyonce and Jay-Z are very private people, but Beyonce is the one who likes to be more private,” an insider dished to Hollywood Life. “Even when attending public family functions, she always finds a way to sneak in unnoticed. She tries her best to keep life as normal for her children.

2 Gwyn Schedules Work Around Her Kids

We can imagine that being an actor takes a parent away from their family for months at a time. Gwyneth says she’s taken a step back from acting in recent years in order to focus on being there for her kids, particularly after her divorce from their father, Chris Martin.

"A few weeks ago during an interview, I was asked why I have only worked on one film a year since having children," Gwyn wrote in her Goop newsletter last year. "My answer was this: Film work takes one away from home and requires 12-14 hours a day, making it difficult to be the one to make the kids their lunch, drive them to school, and put them to bed.”

1 Beyonce Actually Loves Changing Diapers

Most parents will tell you the least enjoyable thing about having a baby is changing diapers- but not Beyonce! The singer has actually admitted to loving doing diaper changes, which is something wish we could enjoy so much.

“Actually, [Jay-Z] is very good. We both [change diapers]. I love changing diapers, I love it. I love every moment of it, it’s so beautiful. I love it all,” Beyonce once admitted on Anderson Live when Blue was just a baby.

Now that she’s had twins (which means double the diaper changes!) we’re not sure if she thought changing diapers was as magical the first time around.
