Breastfeeding? Formula? Who Cares?! FED Is Best.

If there is anything that we know about moms, is that they are all usually very passionate about the choices that they have made for their children. One of the biggest mommy wars is how to feed your infant. The most important thing to remember no matter what is that fed is always best. It is always best to feed your child! This article is in no way trying to sway you one way or another because quite frankly, we don't care! It doesn't affect us at all if you choose to feed your child formula. You do you mama!

Breastmilk really is an amazing thing. No matter if you have decided to formula feed or not, you can't deny how cool breastmilk is and all of its benefits are really interesting to learn about no matter what you choose. Breastmilk is a living substance that contains live cells, including stem cells, which go on to become other body cell types like brain, heart, kidney, or bone tissue. It also contains antibodies and live white blood cells that help your child fight off illness and infection. When you or your baby is sick then the white blood cells actually increase to help fight off the sickness quicker! When you breastfeed, your brain releases the hormones prolactin and oxytocin which help you relax and can help you reduce your stress and anxiety. Also, a special bonus, breastfeeding can burn up to 600 calories a day!

I have breastfed all four of my children and I really do understand the benefits of breastfeeding, but can I be honest with you? I hate breastfeeding! I breastfeed because I do know that it is healthy for my babies and you guys, it's FREE! Breastfeeding is really hard though. I have to feed my child with my body every two hours for a few months and I breastfeed my babies until about 18 months. That means I am a food source for about a year and a half. It is exhausting! I also get mastitis pretty frequently. Through all of my children, I have gotten it 9 times so far. Mastitis is painful and it feels like you have the flu. I am also an overproducer so if I take off my shirt for even a few seconds I start spraying everywhere! I am constantly having to wear something on my chest if I don't then I will just drip and spray all over myself and my surroundings. Also, nobody can feed my child except for me and so I never get to be gone for more than a few hours. Also, no matter where I am I get judged if I am feeding my child, even if I have a cover on!

So, now onto formula feeding! I would say the worst part about formula feeding is it can be expensive! Why do they make formula so darn expensive? Formula is awesome because you can feed your child where you want and you don't have to strip off any of your clothes. It is really nice because you can also hand the baby to somebody else to feed. That is amazing. As a formula feeding mom, you don't have to worry about let-down, which stings like crazy by the way. You don't have to worry about leaking through your shirt either and you can also wear whatever bra you would like. Oh, and to top it all off, you are giving your child all of the nutrients that they need! Formula has been very carefully designed to give your child the things that they need to grow big and strong. I think another really bad part about formula feeding is having to deal with all of the judgy mothers who make you feel the way you do. There is no need for that!

Hey, moms who breastfeed, you ladies are so cool! Hey, moms who formula feed, you mamas are so amazing! You are all feeding your babies and that is just incredible. Keep up the good work.
