Brigitte Nielsen Has Announced That She Is Pregnant With Her Fifth Child At Age 54

Most celebrities are pretty busy storming ahead with their careers during most of their typical baby making years, so it's not unheard of for the rich and famous to become mothers a little later than one might expect. Kelly Preston gave birth at 48, Geena Davis had a daughter at 46 and welcomed twin boys two years later, Susan Surandon had her boys at age 42 and 45 - the list goes on. Now, Brigette Nielsen has raised the bar by announcing via Instagram that she is pregnant at the age of 54.

The actress and model took to her social media account to post some touching pictures of herself sporting a rather large baby bump, captioned "Family getting larger." Brigette is already a mom of four adult sons, but this will be her first child with her 39-year-old husband, Mattia Dessi, whom she wed in 2006. Nielsen first expressed her wish to have more children back in 2008, telling an interviewer that herself and Dessi had talked about starting IVF after her scheduled Playboy feature was out of the way.

The blonde beauty first came to prominence when she starred in Rocky IV and Cobra, alongside screen legend Sylvester Stallone. The two hit it off and married in 1985, before divorcing two years later. This was Nielsen's second marriage, her first being to Kasper Winding from 1983 to 1984. After Stallone, she wed Sebastian Copeland in 1990 before divorcing in 1992, going on to marry Raoul Meyer in 1993. The couple divorced in 2005. The star was then featured on the VH1 series Strange Love which documented her relationship with rapper Flavor Flav, later that year.

It's no secret that having a baby over the age of 40 comes with its own set of risks. The chances of experiencing complications such as high blood pressure and gestational diabetes first increases after the age of 35, going on to rise again when moms hit their 40's. Not only that, but the chance of conceiving a child with Down syndrome escalates to one in 100 after 40, then one in 30 after 45. There's no doubt that Brigette will have her prenatal care routine on lock.
