Mayor, Pete Buttigieg, marries a couple shortly before they go to the hospital for a scheduled C-section.
The mayor of South Bend, Indiana, Pete Buttigieg, had the opportunity to marry a wonderful couple. The couple came to Buttigieg and asked if he wouldn't mind officiating for their simple wedding and he agreed. The couple was about to deliver their child, but wanted to be married before having a baby and so they asked if he wouldn't mind marrying them.
The couple, Mary and Gabe, showed up in the Mayor's office and had all of the necessary paperwork needed to complete the marriage ceremony. They walked into his office and asked if he would "do the honors." He quickly corralled a few staff members to be able to serve as witnesses and some of them started filling out the paperwork. One of the staff members got ribbon for the couple to be placeholders for their rings.
Mary and Gabe were on their way to the hospital for their scheduled C-section. They decided that they didn't want to have child without being married and that is why they stopped by the Mayor's office to marry them on their way to the hospital. Right after they got married they left to the hospital. They were holding their sweet little baby in their arms only a few hours after they were wed as husband and wife.
Mayor Buttigieg said that these were the moments he is going to miss when his term as Mayor is over and he begins running for the presidential campaign. He knows that he isn't going to have the time to be able to do fun little things like this when he is busy with his presidential campaign. If Buttigieg is elected as president he will actually be the youngest president in United States history! He will love being president, but he said there will be things that he will miss about being Mayor.
