Caitlyn Jenner broke boundaries when she announced in April 2015 that she no longer identified as male or wanted to be known as ‘Bruce,’ but rather was transitioning to being female and was now to be known as ‘Caitlyn.’ The celebrity had previously made headlines for first becoming an Olympic gold medalist in the ‘70s and then later for being the husband of Kris Jenner, stepfather of the famous Kardashians kids, and dad to Kylie and Kendall Jenner.

There had been speculation for decades that Caitlyn wanted to transition, and the celeb has since revealed she’d been in the process for years, but only recently worked up the courage to go public. Since then, she’s shared her experience in front of the camera as well as to the media in an effort to be an advocate and role model for others who’d like to or are already transitioning.

Needless to say, there have been a lot of changes in Cait’s life since she gave her first interview as Caitlyn with Dianne Sawyer. From her relationship with the Kardashians to her dating life, fans will be surprised to know all of the things that have happened to Cait since going public. Keep reading to see what’s changed and what’s stayed the same for Caitlyn since saying goodbye to Bruce.

19 Changed: She Underwent Gender Reassignment

When Caitlyn first came out in 2015, many fans wondered if this meant she’d undergo gender reassignment to make a full transformation. While Cait originally said she was in no hurry to do so, she eventually opened up in her 2017 memoir that she did elect to have the procedure - and has no regrets!

“The [reassignment] was a success, and I feel not only wonderful but liberated,” she wrote in her book Secrets of my Life. “I just want to have all the right parts. I am also tired of tucking the […] thing in all the time,” Caitlyn continued. “I am going to live authentically for the first time in my life.”

18 The Same: She’s Still Dating Women

Caitlyn has been married to three different women and has six biological children, so it seems like she's always been sure of her interest in women. However, some fans wondered if she'd start dating men following her transition.

During her interview with Diana Sawyer, the reality star said she wasn't sure how to answer that question. "As far as I know, I've never been with a guy. I've always been married, raising kids," Cait replied.

Caitlyn has since been linked to 22-year-old college student Sophia Hutchins. The two have been seen everywhere together, from Hollywood events to international vacations. Though Cait swears they're just friends, many fans are convinced there's more going on behind the scenes.

17 Changed: She’s Not Keeping Up With The Kardashians

When Caitlyn first announced her transition, the Kardashians were nothing but supportive of her to the media and on camera. But things changed after Caitlyn released her autobiography, I Am Cait, in which she said some not-so-nice things about her ex, Kris Jenner.

Many of Cait’s former step-children, including Kim and Khloe, defended their mother, saying they were surprised by Caitlyn’s harsh words and that it was uncalled for. Reports say that it’s even driven a wedge in Cait’s relationship with her and Kris’ daughters, Kylie and Kendall.

“I just don't communicate with them like I used to,” Caitlyn told Piers Morgan in 2018. “It hurts but it's not the end of the world. Fortunately, I have a lot of children.” However, Caitlyn did make an appearance at the annual Kardashian Christmas party this December, so perhaps it’s a sign they’re mending things.

16 The Same: She’s Been Taking Hormones For Years

While Caitlyn may have only announced her transition in 2015, the celeb has been taking steps for decades to get to the where she is now. In fact, she’s recently been open about the fact that she’s been doing hormone therapy for years since beginning in the ‘80s, although she did stop for a time being.

“In the '80s, Jenner said she suffered from severe depression and isolated herself, pulling away from seeing her children,” ABC News explained. “She started taking female hormones, but at the time, Jenner was so frightened of being discovered and of humiliation, she said she resigned herself to living a lie -- thinking that maybe there would be an instruction in her will to be buried as ‘her.’”

15 The Same: She’s Been Practicing Her Feminine Voice For Years

Many fans have noted that Caitlyn has been speaking more softly and effeminately since her transition. While this is new for many fans, the celeb said she’s been working on her ‘female voice’ for years, so it’s nothing new for her.

"Like if you call down to room service, OK? I'd be sitting there in my little room, all by my lonesome, and I'd think OK! I'm going to try to get my best feminine voice and call down so they say, 'Yes, ma'am.' I could never do it,” Caitlyn said on KUWTK about how she’d practice her voice in front of others before building up the courage to speak like that on a daily basis.

14 Changed: She Started Doing Magazine Covers

While she was still in the closet, it was Caitlyn’s then-wife Kris and her kids who were always landing magazine covers. But since coming out, Cait has had her fair share of high-profile magazine photoshoots, proving she likes living life in the spotlight, too.

For instance, Caitlyn famously appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair soon after announcing her public transition and gave a personal interview with the magazine. “I’m just going to go live life, I’m going to go enjoy life. I have nothing left to hide. I am kind of a free person, a free soul,” she told the publication.

“[Up] to this point I would wear, you know, Bruce would wear, you know, sweatshirts with hoods on them so paparazzi can’t get pictures and all that kind of crap, and I didn’t want them to see if my fingernails were polished or, you know, on and on and on,” Cait continued. “It was just hell.”

13 The Same: Her Chest Isn’t New

Like we’ve said, fans were curious to know what steps Caitlyn was going to take to complete her transformation upon going public in 2015. But the star had already been making changes in private and it turns out she’d had a female chest for years.

The reality star has actually said that she had an ample chest upon meeting her future wife, Kris Jenner. She also says she told Kris of her feelings before they got romantic.

“I definitely told her. I even dressed up with her. I had been on hormones for four and a half years,” Cait told Piers Morgan during an interview. “You had [a chest]?” Piers asked, to which Cait responded, “Yeah, and it was tough to hide that so I was honest to that point. I told her before I ever [did anything] with her.”

12 Changed: No Longer Looks Like An Olympian

Back in the day, Caitlyn was strong and muscled, when she was competing as an Olympic athlete and still going by ‘Bruce.’ She went on to win the gold medal in the decathlon during the 1976 Olympic Games. She also set a new record with her win at 8,176 points.

However, Caitlyn says she never felt comfortable as her old self, especially when she was so jacked from competing. “It disgusted me. I was big and thick and masculine. The rest of the world thought it was this Greek god kind of body. I hated it,” the reality star said. “But it’s what I was given, so I just tried to do the best I could with it.”

11 The Same: She’s Still On Reality TV

Caitlyn spent years on Keeping Up With the Kardashians while she was still known as Bruce, but she wasn’t ready to kiss reality TV goodbye when she made her transition. Rather, Cait signed on to have her own reality show, I Am Cait, following her public announcement that would document her life as she continued on with her transition.

The show initially appeared on the E! network in 2015 and the show garnered relatively positive attention, with critics saying it was spreading awareness for others going through a similar transition. Though the show was renewed for a second season that premiered in March 2016, it was ultimately cancelled in August of the same year due to poor ratings.

10 Changed: She's Become An Advocate

Since winning her Olympic medal, Caitlyn has long been a motivational speaker. But since going public with her transition, the celeb has now focused her speaking engagements to advocate for and bring awareness to others going through similar situations as her.

Caitlyn has attended many panels and talk shows to speak about her advocacy and has even won awards in recent years for her work. “If you want to call me names, make jokes, doubt my intentions, go ahead because the reality is, I can take it,” Caitlyn told Dianne Sawyer about wanting to be a role model. “But for the thousands of kids out there coming to terms with being true to who they are, they shouldn’t have to take it.”

9 The Same: She Still Has A Stylist

Even back when she was formerly known as Bruce, Caitlyn would hire some help before getting in front of the red carpet or cameras. But now that she’s out and proud, Cait has the opportunity to dress however she wants and it sounds like she and her stylist have been having a grand time.

"The bottom line is, I really need a professional to coordinate everything," Caitlyn said on her reality show in 2015. "She does Angelina Jolie and I just love her look. Very casual, very elegant, chic, so I'm [very eager] to meet her." Who wouldn’t want to be dressed by the same person who styles Angie?!

8 Changed: She Has A Whole New Wardrobe

After announcing her transition, Caitlyn said one of the things she was most excited for was being able to dress however the heck she wanted! And she sure hasn’t been disappointing. The celeb has showed up to countless A-lister events in gorgeous outfits that are giving the Kardashians a run for their money, which makes us desperately wish we could take a look inside her wardrobe.

“The hardest part about being a woman is figuring out what to wear. It’s always that way; I never thought it would come to this,” Cait once said in an interview with Buzzfeed. “I had really no sense of style. Everyone around me in my family had the sense of style — I learned as much as I possibly could.”

7 The Same: Her And Kris Are Still Bickering

Prior to 2015, Caitlyn was still married to Kris Jenner but things were far from happily ever after. The longtime couple was always seen bickering and fans felt that Kris bossed Cait around while her husband just took it. But even though the pair are divorced and Bruce has transitioned to Caitlyn, the two are still at odds.

Like we mentioned before, Kris didn’t react well when Cait released her memoir, which claimed that her ex-wife knew about her feelings all along. The celeb also accused the Momager of “bullying” her during their marriage. Kris says Caitlyn’s transition, however, took her by surprise.

"I just want to get to a place where it's comfortable for us to share celebrations together," Cait said on her reality show about wanting to reconcile with Kris. "Maybe it'll be a little different in the future. I hope it is because I want to keep my relationship with all my kids."

6 Changed: She’s Made Amends With Her Older Kids

In the past, Caitlyn has been open about the fact that she was an absentee father to her older four children. But since becoming Caitlyn, she’s made it a point to work on her relationship with her kids, and they’ve been more than supportive of her transition to the media.

“The first thing I thought was just like, 'It finally makes sense,’” Cait’s son Brody said during her children’s interview with Dianne Sawyer. “I just held his hand and I cried with him and I just told him how proud of him I was and how inspired I was,” her daughter Cassandra added.

“I saw a sense of bravery that, for all your previous accomplishments, far exceeds all of them,” son Brandon added. “And I'm just honoured and more proud than ever to be part of the family.”

5 The Same: Her Ex Wives Have Always Known

When Caitlyn first went public about her transition, many fans were curious to know how her ex-wives would react. However, it turns out that Cait’s first two wives have known about her feelings for decades.

The celeb was first married to Chrystie Jenner from 1972-1981, and they share children Cassandra and Burt Jenner. Caitlyn went on to marry Linda Thompson in from 1981-1986 and together they have sons Brandon and Brody. Cait’s final wife was Kris Jenner, who she was with from 1991-2015.

Caitlyn has said that her first two wives were aware she would privately dress in women’s clothing and felt more effeminate. She also says Kris was aware of her feelings, though Kris and her children have refuted the claim.

4 Changed: She’s On Rocky Terms With Kylie And Kendall

Since her falling out with the Kardashians, reports say that Caitlyn’s relationship with her youngest daughters, Kylie and Kendall, have also been strained. Things were evidently so rocky for the three that Kylie didn’t invite her dad to the birth of her daughter, Stormi.

“Kylie and Caitlyn’s relationship has been a little frosty of late, as she made it clear she didn’t approve of Kylie having a baby at her age when she wasn’t in a committed relationship,” a source told Hollywood Life while Kylie was still pregnant. “But Kylie hopes that will change when Caitlyn meets the new arrival.”

3 The Same: She Still Considers The Kardashians Her Kids

To say there’s been a lot of drama between Caitlyn and the Kardashians since her transition would be an understatement. It seems like things may never be the same between these family members after so many harsh words have been exchanged.

However, it appears that Caitlyn may be open to mending things, especially after her reveal this past March. While speaking at Sixth Annual World Values Network Champions of "Jewish Values Awards Gala", Cait praised the community for “how they are so committed to family.”

She then revealed she has ten children- six of who she meant her biological kids, and the other four must’ve been a reference to her four Kardashian step-kids. “And for me, I am very blessed – I have a very large family,” Caitlyn said. “I have ten but it took me three women.”

2 Changed: She Won’t Answer To The Name ‘Bruce’

It’s taken fans a while to get used to knowing Caitlyn as her new name rather than her old self Bruce. Caitlyn has revealed that she understandably gets annoyed when fans still address her by her old name or gender in person, but she tries to be understanding that everyone is as educated about personal pronouns.

“I had a guy actually ... ask for a selfie and said, ‘Oh Bruce, could you give me a selfie?’ And I looked at him. Nobody’s called me that in two years almost now, and I said, ‘No problem,’” she told Diane Sawyer. “I want them to walk away saying, ‘Oh Caitlyn Jenner was so nice’ .... that [those like me] yes, are approachable ... and they are a vital part of our society.

1 The Same: Everything Has To Be Done In The Spotlight

Just like her ex-wife Kris, Caitlyn has always seemed to love living life in the spotlight. And that didn’t change when she became open about her transition.

In fact, her former stepdaughter, Khloe Kardashian, has said Cait didn’t even tell the family in private about her plans. Rather, they found out at a business meeting with E! News (the official producer of KUWTK) when Cait mentioned she not only transitioning but was going to do it in front of the camera.

"They mentioned Bruce had a television show about transitioning, and that's the first we heard of it. We felt betrayed because more business people [knew],” Khloe said on her talk show Kocktails With Khloe. "We felt so, like, [betrayed]! We've been asking you, and why do [business ] people know? I never want someone to feel like they have a one-up on our family.” She added, "He would only want to talk to us on-camera. think for security he felt we couldn't get upset [on camera] or whatever."
