Since giving birth to her daughter (Kulture) Kiari Cephus, Cardi B’s truths have been authentic and raw about motherhood and mental health.

Now, still unfiltered she opens up to ENews about her postpartum depression. But out of nowhere, the world was heavy on my shoulders." In one Instagram video, she told fans, "I met my match. My baby is, like, bro, she is very demanding. I can't believe I have a boss. I really have a boss."

American rapper, singer, and songwriter, Cardi B, born Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, admit she thought she was in the clear regarding postpartum. Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, she didn’t expect to have any issues with her mental health after birth. “I thought I was going to avoid it,” she said. “When I gave birth, the doctor told me about postpartum and I was like, ‘Well, I’m doing good right now, I don’t think that’s going to happen.” Like any other mother - she was not prepared for the emotional turmoil that ensues post-delivery.

Cardi first announced on Instagram that her mental health was being compromised when she abruptly canceled her tour with Bruno Mars - 24 dates across North America. "I thought that after giving birth to my daughter that six weeks would be enough time for me to recover mentally and physically. "I also thought that I'd be able to bring her with me on tour, but I think I underestimated this whole mommy thing." It was a monumental moment - the superstar owned her feelings and it was nothing short of fearless.

In addition to her precarious temperament, Cardi B is feeling physically offbeat - she is amazed at the metamorphoses she has experienced since giving birth. She explained to US Magazine, There’s an energy I haven’t gotten back yet that I had before I was pregnant. It’s just the weirdest thing.”

Cardi B, instinctively unfiltered, also took to Instagram and described how she wants a "breast renovation” after breastfeeding Kulture. She revealed in her video that she would be getting plastic surgery in the upcoming months. "I'm getting my t-ts done. I don't give a f--k. Matter of fact, I'm not even going to call it a surgery. I'm just going to say a 't-tty renovation' because I got to renovate these s--ts." Cardi B captioned the video "Kulture did me bad.”

Until this moment, there existed a collective perception that Cardi B was larger than life but as Scary Mommy explains, “It doesn’t matter what or who you were before you became a mother. Once you step over the threshold and into that all-consuming world, it changes you.” Other prominent figures who have boldly exposed their struggles of postpartum depression include; Gwyneth Paltrow, Courteney Cox, Brooke Shields, Drew Barrymore, Angelina Jolie and Britney Spears - to name a few.

Katherine Stone of Postpartum Progress told The Hollywood Reporter it’s crucial for everyone to speak out publicly about how real maternal mental illness is - including female business executives, entertainment industry stars, community leaders and so many others. Removing the stigma is imperative to creating awareness.

Approximately 20 percent of moms experience postpartum depression in Canada and for many, it’s immobilizing and distressful. Cardi B has been blessed to have the support of her sister. Hennessy Carolina said she assisted by simply being there for her sister and being the best aunt. We, along with her millions of fans support her on this marvelous journey with all its ups and downs.
