Having a miscarriage is one of the most devastating and tragic things that a woman can experience. While almost 25% of pregnancies end in miscarriage, the loss can be extremely difficult to process, especially with a first pregnancy.

Many women are now opening up about their experiences with miscarriage, in order to raise awareness and provide comfort to other women dealing with pregnancy loss. Sadly, miscarriage has been so stigmatized, that women often feel guilt and shame, which keeps them from opening up about their feelings. Miscarriage is never a woman's fault, and it's important that a grieving woman has a safe place to talk about her experiences.

Many celebrities have gone public with their own miscarriages, sharing their stories on social media. This sharing is super helpful for women who are struggling to manage their emotions in the aftermath of experiencing a miscarriage. While it is a very sad thing to go through, it's also extremely common, and feeling like you aren't the only one experiencing grief is important. If you are really struggling in the aftermath of having a miscarriage, seek out a therapist who can help you process the loss. Here are some celebs who have tragically lost a pregnancy this year.

Scheana Shay

The Vanderpump Rules star took to social media to share the sad news that she had experienced an early miscarriage at the end of June. In the last season of the Bravo reality series, she shared her journey with freezing her eggs, before meeting her current beau, Brock Davies. Doctors had previously told Shay that she would likely never get pregnant without IVF, due to fertility issues, so the news of her 'miracle baby' was very welcome and unexpected. Sadly, she miscarried shortly after discovering she was pregnant, at just 6 weeks pregnant. Shay shared her story to give women who are struggling with infertility hope, as well as giving women who have struggled with miscarriage comfort that they are not alone.

Ali Fedotowsky-Mannot

Former Bachelorette star Ali Fedowtowsky-Mannot shared some sad news on her Instagram page last month. In a very honest and open post (which she recorded using talk to text from her car after a visit to her OBGYN) she told her fans that she had suffered a miscarriage. The mom of two explained that the whole situation was super sad, and that she wasn't entirely sure if she'd ever share the whole story of what she experienced, but wanted to go public to help others. While it's unclear how far along she was in the pregnancy, she hadn't previously announced that she was expecting, so it was likely a first-trimester loss.

Christina Perri

Singer Christina Perri is newly pregnant, only 6 months after suffering a devastating miscarriage in January. She was 11 weeks pregnant at the time of the miscarriage, and took to social media to report the loss the day it happened. She had not yet announced her pregnancy, which was her second pregnancy with husband Paul Costabile.

The pair were devastated by the loss, especially since they have a two-year old daughter, Carmella, who was so excited to be a big sister. Though it was a difficult experience, Christina kept hope that another child would come along when the timing was right. The silver lining is that Christina officially revealed that she is now pregnant with her rainbow baby, and everything seems to be going very well for her.

Kimberley Van Der Beek

Kimberley and James Van Der Beek sadly announced that Kimberley had a devastating miscarriage earlier this year, at 17 weeks pregnant. The couple are parents to five children under the age of ten and have always talked about wanting an even larger family. Sadly, Kimberley has had a total of five miscarriages over the past nine years, including one this past November.

Kimberley and James have always been open about their struggles. James explained on Instagram how devastated their family was, and how traumatic the loss was for Kimberley. The physical toll of having so many miscarriages is another point that she has been very candid about; explaining that this past miscarriage resulted in her being rushed to the hospital to get several blood transfusions. While their journey has not always been easy, the family is very determined to keep growing, so hopefully, Kimberley gets pregnant without any issues in the next little while!
