The world has waited with bated breath for months now: are they or aren't they? All eyes have been on Meghan Markle, 37, the Duchess of Sussex, and her husband, Prince Harry, 34, since their fairytale wedding this past May, wondering when the news will break that they are expecting.

Well, the wait is officially over! There is a new little royal on the way, according to Kensington Palace, who officially made the announcement this morning on Twitter.

It comes as no surprise to most of us, but that doesn't make it any less exciting. After all, both Harry and Meghan have been vocal about their desire to start a family in the past - even as recently as last year. In November of 2017, during their first joint interview since they announced their engagement, Harry responded to a question about whether or not they wanted to become parents with a confident, "Of course."

"You know, one step at a time," he added. "Hopefully we'll start a family in the near future."

Meghan, on the other hand, has been thinking about parenthood since before she was even engaged to Harry. In 2015, speaking to Reader's Digest, she admitted that starting a family was one of the items on her bucket list.

"I want to travel more and I can't wait to start a family, but in due time," she said.

It seems as though the time is now for the happy couple, and the world couldn't be happier. Celebrities and even some royals themselves have been chiming in all day since the baby news broke early this morning, and here's what they have to say about the announcement of a new royal babe-to-be:

Kicking off the comments with a laugh, comedian and talk show host Ellen Degeneres took to Twitter to share her excitement, and couldn't help herself with a little tongue-in-cheek reference to Meghan's days as a briefcase model on the popular reality show, Deal or No Deal.

English singer-songwriter Lily Allen also seemed to welcome the news, suggesting that it was a breath of fresh air from Brexit. She also joked that the Lindo Wing, the exclusive west-London maternity ward where Kate Middleton delivered her three children, was already booked.

Actor George Takei of Star Trek fame shared a hilarious meme to his Instagram feed, congratulating the couple and hoping to get a new hashtag trending.

British Prime Minister Theresa May was one of the first to wish the couple a heartfelt congratulations.

And finally, on the family front, according to a Kensington Palace spokesperson, the Queen, Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are all "delighted for the couple." Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, is reportedly also "very happy about this lovely news," and that she is looking forward to "welcoming her first grandchild."
