Surrogate pregnancy is defined as taking the egg from the mother and fertilizing it with the father's sperm, and then the embryo is transferred into the uterus of a gestational carrier. People decide to have a child through a surrogate for many reasons. For some who cannot conceive naturally, it may be one of the only options available. For others, it just makes sense for them from a health perspective, or it fits in better with their professional lives. It may surprise you to learn that many celebrities have relied on surrogate pregnancies in order to start or grow their families. Here are 10 celebrities who had surrogate pregnancies.
10 KANYE AND KIM KARDASHIAN WEST
The reality star and beauty brand maven opted for a surrogate pregnancy in order to grow her family. Kim had two natural pregnancies which resulted in the births of her daughter (North) and son (Saint).
However, both of her pregnancies had complications, including placenta accreta, which occurs when the placenta grows too deeply into the uterine wall. She decided she wanted to have a third child, but doctors warned her it may be unsafe for her to carry another child. So, she decided to hire a surrogate, which resulted in the birth of her third child, daughter Chicago in 2018.
