This year’s most popular baby names in the UK are Charlotte and Liam. The top two names come as no surprise, especially since everyone is always so enamoured with new additions to the royal family. Turns out, 2019 gave us many little princes and princesses.

The most popular baby names reveal a lot about that year. For instance, when Frozen first came out, “Elsa” was one of the most popular names for little girls. Ultimately, parents name their children after something near and dear to them, a reference to an aspect of pop culture they love, or an idea or characteristic they want their kids to embody in the future. For 2019, it seems like parents in the UK wanted their own little royal in their family.

Charlotte is the most popular name for baby girls this year. All of this because of Princess Charlotte. The young royal was born on May 2, 2015, and she has slowly been making more public appearances. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge proudly share cute moments of the princess’ life on their official social media, and royal fans are simply in love with her. It wouldn’t be a surprise if her other names also inspired parents’ choices; her full name being Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.

For the second year in a row, Liam took the top spot of the country’s most popular boys’ names. While many may have chosen the name due to the famous One Direction member, the origins of the name are actually royal. Liam is short for William, the name of the Duke of Cambridge. Following tradition, Prince William also has other names, and British parents have been naming their kids after him for years; his full name is William Arthur Philip Louis Windsor.

The Duke of Cambridge and his daughter are clearly inspiring many parents who are looking for the perfect name for their little royal. The little ones are surely going to grow up with grace and splendour, as if they were raised in a palace. After all, who wouldn’t want to be named after a prince or princess?
