Chrissy Teigen recently addressed the miscarriage she experienced in September 2020, revealing it was actually a “life-saving abortion.”

While speaking at the Propper Daley’s “A Day of Unreasonable Conversation” summit, the model used her experience to advocate for abortion rights. She explained that she had a very difficult pregnancy. Towards the end, she was hospitalized and required multiple blood transfusions.

Chrissy said she was eventually told neither she nor the baby would survive if she continued with the pregnancy. She says there was no way to save the baby, and it could be fatal for her to continue. So, the pregnancy was terminated early. Chrissy and her husband, John Legend, later revealed they named their late son Jack.

Chrissy says that she believed what she went through was a miscarriage, until recently. The cookbook author says the U.S. Supreme Court’s Decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade gave her a new perspective on her loss.

“An abortion to save my life for a baby that had absolutely no chance,” she explained, admitting she didn’t realize this until a “few months ago.”

The mother-of-two says her experience is an example of why women need reliable access to abortion services. Not all abortions are done because the pregnancy wasn’t wanted. As in Chrissy’s case, it was a necessary move to save the mother’s life.

Despite her candidness, Chrissy has received backlash from the public over her admission.

She opened up about the criticism on Twitter, saying she “knew” that many people would have negative and cruel things to say. She tweeted a series of screenshots from Instagram featuring rude comments from her followers.

As per Page Six, some people accused Chrissy of trying to make the abortion debate about herself, while others called her a drama queen. However, Chrissy said that the hateful comments “doesn’t make me feel worse” about the experience.

Chrissy and John share two children – daughter Luna, 6, and son Miles, 4.

Although the Sports Illustrated model said she wasn’t sure if more kids were in the cards after her 2020 loss, she resumed IVF earlier this year. Though her pregnancy with Jack was naturally conceived, she used reproductive assistance to get pregnant with her two oldest children.

Chrissy went on to announce she’s pregnant again in August over Instagram. She described the last few years as a “blur,” but expressed gratefulness to be expecting again.

The ‘Cravings’ author hasn’t revealed the sex of her baby on the way or when she’s due to give birth, but it’s speculated that the Legend-Teigen family’s new addition will arrive sometime next year.
