There are certain people in the world who can make anyone smile. Chrissy Teigen, cookbook author, wife of John Legend, and mother of two young kids, is one of those people. Ever since becoming a mom, Teigen has not been afraid to share the good, bad, and hilarious things about motherhood on social media. Many fans are thankful for her honesty and are glad they aren’t the only ones who don’t have Instagram worthy toddler meals prepared every day either.

Her most recent “mom-life” post has to do with something that all parents say, without realizing that they do it. She shared a picture of her 19-month-old son, Miles, lying on the ground after a tumble while playing with blocks. Teigen appropriately captioned the picture with, “favourite parenting words: ‘you’re okay you’re okay’”. As a mom of a toddler, the post brought a smile to my face. Some people might think, “Why is she taking a picture instead of helping him??” But if Miles really wasn’t okay, Teigen wouldn’t have shared what happened online.

The post encouraged other parents to share their experiences by saying those exact words all the time and that their children have even picked up on it. One follower commented, “My daughter now responds with 'I’m okay' out loud when anything happens”. Another wrote, “Haha yes! I would always say 'you’re good, you’re fine' before I knew if they really were”. Toddlers are busy little kids. All parents can understand the tumbles and bumps that come with them.

When a child falls whether when learning how to walk or stumbled off something they were climbing on, parents can help their children learn how to not overreact to the situation. Many kids will mimic and feed-off their parents' reactions. If parents are able to remain calm when something happens, their kids will learn to do the same. When you know your child is fine after a stumble, tell them that everything is okay and then quickly move on to something else. This can help children not see the need to cry or scream about what happened.
