Model and cookbook author Chrissy Teigen has never been one to shy away from responding to fans, critics, and trolls alike on any social media platform. Whether it's Twitter- or in this case, Instagram- the mother of two is always frank whenever she's going off on another Internet user. Her no filter responses and sharp wit make her captions, comments, and tweets all sound funny, sarcastic, or both.
Yet according to The TODAY Show this past weekend, Teigen chose to take a different route more recently. It started when she posted a photo to her Instagram of her and husband John Legend celebrating their successful European trip. The happy photo was sooner undercut by a sudden comment from a fellow Instagram user.
"Baby bump?" the user inquired.
Some believe that Teigen's outfit in the photo was what triggered the question in the first place. Teigen explained on her Instagram Story that she'd chosen to wear a towel as a way to mock the TLC reality show Four Weddings. She jokingly explained that she was DIYing her wedding dress because it would "personalize the wedding". Regardless of the reason, that didn't excuse the user's comment whatsoever.
In this situation, Teigen had every right to be angry, or use her sarcastic wit to reply. After all, no mother likes to be asked such a thing- especially if she's yet to gain her pre-baby body back. However, Teigen went about responding to the question in a more polite, informative manner.
"I know you didn't mean it to be rude, but think twice about asking this, there are people who have trouble conceiving and it hurts every time. I'm not pregnant but would be happy if I were. But I'm also happy not to be!" Teigen replied with an accompanying heart emoji.
This response triggered a wave of love and support for the famous model and mom from her fans. Many praised her calm, professional handling of the situation. Meanwhile, others left comments explaining how upsetting and frustrating it is to receive such comments- sometimes on a regularly basis! It can be upsetting to those who have been pregnant, as well as though who can't get pregnant at all.
The latter point was mentioned by one fan, who Teigen responded to by saying, "Yeah I'm already reminded of it every time I get out of the shower, I don't need to hear it on the daily lol."
One thing's for certain- we've got to hand it to Chrissy for her continuing to clap back at social media users!
