Singer Ciara gave birth to her third child last July, but only now is the mother-of-three opening up about what it was like giving birth during the coronavirus pandemic. In a new interview with Self Magazine, the singer touched on the subject, recalling how her doctor didn’t give her a choice about wearing a mask during labor.

"My obstetrician, who's delivered all my babies, was not playing any games about this COVID. I literally made my first push with Win and then he was like, 'She needs a mask on. Get a mask on,' " she explained, adding that up until that point she’d had her mask on but resting on her chin. Ciara said that her experience wearing a mask during childbirth was “pretty good [as] I could still breathe alright.” However, she admits the experience was “crazy,” PEOPLE reports.

The ‘Thinking Bout You’ songstress went on to explain her mindset with being pregnant during the coronavirus epidemic, saying her approach was to go with the flow, something she recommends other expecting women try to do during such unpredictable times. this is a unique time. “It is a challenging time. And the world is changing,” Ciara said. “But rather than letting the world change me, I'm going to figure out how to change with it. That's been my mentality. How do I adjust?”

Ciara announced her third child’s arrival (and her second with husband Russell Wilson) in July with a touching Instagram post featuring a video dedicated to her new addition. The clip showed the singer lying in her hospital bed directly after her delivery with her son lying on her chest. Her bedazzled, black face mask was still on. “Happy Birthday Win,” she captioned the photo. “Mommy & Daddy Love You.” The newborn, whose full name is Win Harrison Wilson, joins his big sister Sienna Princess, 3. Ciara also has a 6-year-old son, Future Zahir, whom she shares with her ex, rapper Future.

Ciara has been open about how different her third pregnancy was in comparison to her previous ones. In November, the celebrity mom revealed just how difficult the pregnancy was, calling it “painful.” “My body was so achy, I thought I was going to need a cane at the end of my pregnancy to be honest,” she told E! News at the time. “I was penguin walking throughout the house at the end.”

Since welcoming her third baby, Ciara has been letting her followers into her weight-loss journey. Earlier this month, the singer spoke about her partnership with Weight Watchers on Instagram, revealing she’d dropped 28 pounds since giving birth the following summer. In the post, she added that she’s hoping to lose another 20 pounds to get back to her pre-baby size.
