Colleen Ballinger reveals the key to transitioning to parenthood is a supportive partner and laughter.

Transitioning to parenthood is a very hard step. Before parenthood, you get the chance to be selfish. You get to sleep when you want, take breaks when you want, and even eat when you want. All of a sudden when you become a parent you can't think about yourself, you have to always think about another person. Often that person is angry and demanding everything from you. Many women fall into a depression because the transition is very difficult. Colleen Ballinger shared that she actually transitioned into being a mother very easily and she shares her secret.

Ballinger gave birth to her first child with her husband Erik Stocklin. The couple welcomed their son Flynn back in December. She shared that she understands the transition can be difficult, but having a lot of laughter and a strong and supportive partner can help with the transition. “I think having a good partner is the secret to being able to balance work and parenthood,” Ballinger exclusively tells PEOPLE. “It’s been hard but I think that was to be expected … [My husband] has probably been my biggest tool to survival.” Ballinger has been very busy since she had her son. She has been able to be successful in her career even on very little sleep.

She has been creating content for YouTube, she starred in The Angry Birds 2 move, she has been practicing for her upcoming Broadway debut in the hit musical Waitress and most recently, partnering with Always Infinity with FlexFoam. Ballinger has been very busy and she said that only reason that she has been able to do it is having a very supportive husband who has worked overtime to let her fulfill her dreams and hit her goals. She said that when her husband wants to hit goals then she is also the parent who will step up for him and be the 100% parent in those moments. It goes hand-in-hand. She said that it is important for partners to share the load and to work together.

Ballinger mentioned how parenthood can be very overwhelming. She said that she feels like she has no idea what she is doing sometimes and so it can be a bit stressful. It is very important for them to just laugh through the hard stuff. “Laughing our way through it is our way to survive because there are so many things that could scare us, or freak us out, or be daunting about parenthood, but we’re kinda figuring it out as we go,” she reveals. “We’re just stumbling our way through … but we’re surviving.”
