It actually started off as a small favor asked by one dad about his recently passed daughter. He put up a photo of his daughter on Reddit and asked a simple question but he never imagined the response he would get.
With the original photo above he asked this: "My daughter recently passed away after a long battle in the children's hospital. Since she was in the hospital her whole life we never were able to get a photo without all her tubes. Can someone remove the tubes from this photo?"

He explained that Sophia had unfortunately passed away at only 6 weeks after suffering from a hepatic hemangioma in her liver. Right away, people took the photo and gave way beyond what this man expected.
As you can see, what happened after this was a completely unexpected. Complete strangers from around the world used what they knew best, like paint or Photoshop, to his this man.
He loved all the photos but really gained so much more from the entire experience. "I was emotionally taken back by all the support and personal messages from families who shared a similar experience of grief."
He got more than what he asked for and of course, seeing his daughter without the equipment meant a lot to him. "Although we cherish her real photos because that's how she was," he said.
This is just another example of the amazing people around the world who are willing and wanting to help another. We have seen a few other good Samaritans this year, like the man who turned a crib into a memorial bench for a grieving mom and even the "Angel Gown" (story about those on BabyGaga Blogs).
Later on, Steffel posted about his gratitude and said:
"This is really amazing. Everyone you have made my day. All I wanted was a nice picture. What I received was a lot of love and support from a bunch of strangers. A long with a lot of great photos, drawings and paintings. Thanks everyone!"
He and his wife plan on hanging up a few of their favorites around their home.
