Choosing a baby name is serious business. But these parents-to-be took it a step further when they had their family and friends vote on their favourite name choice.

Australian football player Trent Cotchin and his wife Brooke already had two daughters, 4-year old Harper and 3-year old Mackenzie, when they welcomed a son this past July. But it turns out naming their third child was much more of a challenge than it was with their first two children.

According to The Sun, the couple were originally going to name their little boy Becker. However, their loved ones weren’t so fond of the name. Many of them told the couple the name reminded them of the tennis champion Boris Becker. "We had named him Becker the night before and everyone said he'll get called Boris,” Brooke told the publication.

That’s when the couple knew they had to change their baby name. Although they already had a second and third choice in mind, Trent and Brooke didn’t want to risk their families disliking it once again. So, they launched a poll so their loved ones could give them input on their baby name choices. "We had a voting system in the hospital and everyone had to vote,” Brooke said.

The ‘results’ were in only three days later and the parents decided to name their little boy Parker Foxx Cotchin. The parents are at ease knowing they have the full support of all of their families on the baby name choice.

While we love the name Trent and Brooke eventually chose, many parents feel that asking their family to vote on baby names is extreme and unnecessary. Especially with the rise in eclectic baby names in recent years, society has come to expect that kids may have unusual names. After all, if Kim Kardashian can get away with naming her kids things like Psalm and North, everything else seems tame in comparison.

BabyGaga recently reported on Kendall Jenner disliking Kim’s fourth baby name, Psalm, which is a reference to the biblical book of the same name.

“Kim made me come to her house and like, help her pick a name,” Kendall explained during an appearance interview with Jimmy Fallon. “She would not let me leave the house until we figured out a name. And then ended up going with a name that I didn’t even—like, that I didn’t care for as much. I think they were all really beautiful, but I was kind of rooting for another name.”
